    I am currently volunteering on a property in North France called Chateau Bellenau. I'm working in their garden for 7 hours a day in exchange for housing and food. This gives me about 4 or 5 hours a day for Kung Fu Training at this beautiful ancient garden and Castle/Chateau. I really wanted to practice my Kung Fu Weapons and this video shows how I made my own Bo Staff and some moves all Beginner Kung Fu and Martial Arts students should practice! Enjoy!

    The Bo Staff is one of the 18 Traditional Weapons of the Chinese Martial Arts including Kung Fu. The Staff, Bo, or Bo Staff of Kung Fu is also the most compassionate weapon of the Chinese Martial Arts because it can fight in combat without killing everyone it touches. The Bo Staff can block, parry, deflect, smack, break, knockout, and thrust stopping your opponent without killing them. I practice traditional Chinese Martial Arts, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Qigong for several hours each day.
    Chinese Lesson of the Day:
    1. Head Height Bo Staff - Gùn - 棍
    2. Shorter Bo Staff - Bàng - 棒

      My limited understanding of 日本と沖縄の武道 (にほんとおきなわのぶどう) NIHON TO OKINAWA NO BUDO or the Japanese & Okinawan Martial Arts is that the 棒 (ぼう) BO means Staff in English. In Japanese Budo there are many types of Staffs, here are a couple: 九尺棒 (きゅうしゃくぼう) KYUSHAKU BO (9ft BO), 六尺棒 (ろくしゃくぼう) ROKUSHAKU BO (6ft BO) and the 杖棒 (じょうぼう) JO BO (3 ft BO). The Okinawans have an art that is weapons based called 古武道 (こぶどう) KOBUDO.

    I bought a 72” rattan bo-staff advertised with diameter 1.25 inch from KarateMart advertised at Jake’s website specifically for that diameter. KarateMart sent me a 1 inch diameter staff. When I called it was wrong and called I found I would have to pay all shipping to exchange - that’s paying shipping 3 ways because of their error. They gave me a coupon credit of 10% off since I might as well keep the staff ... roughly 4 bucks off for their mis-advertizing the product. Actually the center grip is smaller than the 1 inch grip on my oak staff.
    I won’t be buying anything more from KarateMart.

    I'm an ITF Taekwondo Student 1. Dan Black Belt, but i have never felt as a black belt. A lot of my student feels invincible when they get blue belt, which is great for kids that i teach, but for adults i hope they learn what i know. the belt have no meaning for me. It is only a small meaning that does not really mean something. Most people will never need to use martial, so i teach them ofcourse how to defend themself, but also how "self controll" could be used to work, studies and how to be a better person, which i learned from you. Thankou

    I went walking on the montain a few days ago and my friend took his bo like he was Gandalf and he also brought a club. Here in this mountain, sometimes there are thieves, so my friend told me, the bo is to help us keep the balance, but it also serves as a weapon, as well as the club and you'll realize we don't even have to pick fights, people will see the club and the bo and think it is a bad idea to mess with us. He was right, a guy passed us by and stared at the club and the bo. My uncle suggested bringing a stick to keep dogs at bay, because they tend to be aggressive near the farms and it also helps you when walking. I will build mind. My uncle had a bambu like yours and I think I can get one. I heard that if you burn it a little, it will cure and then I might put some laquer on it :D

      Kung Fu & Tai Chi Center w/ Jake Mace you’re a fraud absolutely no talent I cannot believe people like you can so easily take advantage of gullible people in a real fight people with your training would fail this is coming from a bloody 16 year old blacksmith who just so happens to know what he’s actually talking about.

    Brother, your teaching style and technique are so perfectly matched. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing intuitive form. Here in NC we have an abundant supply of bamboo. In fact I have harvested several perfect poles for staff use. My question is, wouldn't hickory wood be perfect for a bow staff (provided the grain is straight and long)? Its much heaver and stronger for the strike force. What do you think?

    Idk what kind of "hardwood" you've been using but from my experience they shouldn't shatter when hit. The ones you were using probably were poorly made out of manufacturing wood or was not properly seasoned.
    (Btw as a guy who mostly trains in European quarterstaff techniques, it's really interesting to see the Asian version being explained. Definetely looks a lot more elegant then the European one. You can really see the culture differences of the two continents just by the different ways they use a big stick lmao)

  • @FattyMcFox
    @FattyMcFox 6 лет назад +1

    Just made my own staff and i am going to definitely work some of the into my exercises. Though it is more of an English quarterstaff so it may be a little long for some of this.

    • @xxxxxx5868
      @xxxxxx5868 4 года назад

      If you have an English quarterstaff then practice the English way of usinf a quarterstaff. There are a lot of videos explaining how to use the longer European staffs.
      Imo as a guy who trains in the European way of the staff, it is way more effective then any Asian staff martial art, but maybe I'm just biased lmao

    So how well do your drills translate to a saberstaff? I am a beginner in the lightsaber world,but ik that actual fencing is a close analog to lightsaber dueling,but I have a saberstaff that breaks down to separate sabers.
    They are small and very light in my hands,so fencing or the Chinese swords I've seen women use in ol skool Kung Fu movies seem to be the closest thing I can TRY to practice with....thoughts? Hopefully you DO read each comment and reply.

    I'd like to get a real rattan bo staff as soon as l have the money. It's such a practical weapon, and it's not threatening to have with you in public like a sword. You could take it to a park and if anyone questions you, just say it's a walking stick. It's very much like a monk to have a simple non-threatening weapon by his side that he can still use to cause major damage if necessary.
    Unfortunately where I live, you don't find rattan or bamboo just laying around, so it's unlikely I could get one for free.

    I'd rather die to a sharp sword than a blunt staff. I'd rather die to a pleasant overdose if I'm being honest.

    I bought my staff via my local club after a year or so;not sure the material. However to be be fair it won't break from what is required for most practice, no more than bamboo. Unless you are going full out you don't need to worry about that.

      PathosAres can you not sharpen a blade whilst talking to a friend? 16:08 that time you spent watching this video could've been used the same way along with the 45 seconds it took to post your comment. A lifetime could be spent leading people away from the teachings of Fake mace . If i said I never watched a video of his and enjoyed it I would be lying . A fan before a critic I was . You have the choice to watch and enjoy whom and what you please. Dog dog . ✌👍👀💩💩💩🐢🍯

      Bizzball Bizzington time spent in enjoyment and learning IS time well spent to me. I'm sure you find enjoyment in trolling and bashing on people which is fine for you but I personally do not see this type of criticism to be productive. Their is something called constructive criticism but I'm not seeing much of that here on social media. I will agree to disagree with you though. Have a great day m8.

      PathosAres The time for constructive criticism has past . You call me a troll i see myself to be more like the 3rd billy goat gruff. I have yet to begin to bash Jacob for if I did we would not be conversating on this thread . Your a weak willed individual who rolled over and accepted his lies . Some don't think twice before speaking up for what they believe in . Just like I'm sure I wouldn't spend 5 minutes with you before correcting your grammar and aunutiation.The stupidity and blatant ignorance of other's is a problem that you have the choice to be part of or not . If i was your math teacher and my first-ever lesson was the number in between 4 and 5 is called Dorf and you knew 6 came after 5 and 4 before 5 with no other number in the middle you would most likely call me liar and point out the error in my way . Dog dog . Redundancy is the most evident proof of ones lack of true knowledge . Your right I do enjoy this it is quite therapeutic the endorphins in my body release with each keystroke.

      @@bizzballbizzington6328 I've been reading the accusing comments here and I know one thing. A great martial artist adapts and changes according to his opponent/opponents. Knowing various styles and having the ability to combine them into one discipline serves the greatest martial artist. "Be water, my friend".

      +Raven Yes, I think Karate can become a positive aspect of ones life. I feel that the more we understand Karate and what it is and its history the more it can help shape our lives in a positive direction. The use of this Japanese kanji 空手 (からて) Karate means that is the post 1930s 内地 (ないち) Naichi or mainland Japan, Japanized art which is based on the art of Okinawa called 唐手 (からて) Karate. There are three branches of Karate 那覇手 (なはて) Naha Te, 首里手 (しゅりて) Shuri Te and 泊手 (とまりて) Tomari Te. The Naha Te has a 形 (かた) Kata called 三戦形 (さんチンかた) Sanchin Kata or the Three Wars Form. The 3 Wars which Karate Do seeks to address is the mind, body and spirit. This is called 心身 (しんしん) Shin Shin. The better we can master ourselves the more we can enjoy our lives. Peace
