Hey Brian! Well after watching almost every video you've done on this 400 I feel like I already know this bike from tire to tire. Your videos are well put together in an easy to understand way. But also aren't to toned down. You don't make the more experienced viewer feel like an idiot but also don't make a novice viewer feel like a project is super scary and mysterious. I will be picking up my very own 400 tomarrow (2/21/19) and will be using quite a few of your videos as I make my bike mine. Thank you for your immense knowledge and your ability to teach! A big fan, Jesse
Great job, as a saftey man you might think about one of those grove wedding rings, will save your finger, and clear saftey glasses....awesome instructions! Gods speed
Great video Sir. Just what I wanted to see done on this bike. The greatest gripe for Kawasaki ninja 400 are the spongy front brakes. Hope this mod eliminated that. Cheers.....
I have 2020 ninja 650abs I just install rear braided line was pain in the but...... for the front pretty much similar, lift the tank and connect the lines to the abs pump.....
Useful video. Although I'm surprised the bike does not have tank grips. Frankly, tank grips, ABS and braided lines should be law on all street motorcycles. Control under braking is vastly improved using legs to brace on other tank.
Nice work, i just picked up my Ninja 400 at the beginning of the month and have been doing some mods, next on the list is deactivate the ABS and brake line upgrade. Do you have Non-ABS brake line kit for the 400, thanks for the informative video, normally i am not a fan of the green but on your bike, looks great with a dash of Kawi to compliment the black.
Is there any need to put a few drops of blue loctite on the banjo bolts? And is there a torque spec for them? I'm concerned with over-tightening. Thanks for the fantastic videos and sharing your knowledge with us; new to wrenching and I really appreciate the mentorship. #respect
Do not put any loctite on the banjo bolts. If you want to use a torque wrench I am pretty sure Spiegler publishes the spec in the instructions they send with each brake line kit. - Van
Spiegler makes a great product, we use their lines on all of our STG Project Bikes. Galfer is a good brand as well, we just have a stronger relationship with Spiegler because they are in Ohio a couple hours from us so we are able to get the lines custom made in 1-2 days total including delivery to the shop. We also work with them supplying feedback on the kits we install on the project bikes. - Brian Van
Hi Van, thanks very much for the vid ! I have 2 questions - when removing the fuel tank, do I have to empty it first, or do anything in particular to make sure no spill? - do you see potential to mount a steering damper on the Ninja 400? Thanks a lot!
It is easier if the tank is not full, that said it really doesn't matter as the fuel will not leak past the fuel pump after you remove it. End of the day it is just a little more awkward and heavier the more fuel you have in it. - Brian Van
Hi Brian, quick question although this model gives the bike more performance and stopping power does it change the functions of the abs in regards to emergency stopping and wheel locking?
Thank you for watching! The Ninja 650 has more power and is a little heavier than the Ninja 400 which is why it comes with 2 front discs. The brakes on the Ninja 400 work well for the size and power of the bike, especially after installing stainless steel brake lines on the bike. - Brian Van
STG sir i just want to ask if its ok to put a on/off switch to the headlight of kawi 400.? And sir can u make a video on how to adjust the high ang low beam of the headlight of kawi 400 please.. thank u sir..
With these brake lines you will retain the rear reservoir. The only difference between these lines and the OEM rubber is these do not expand so you have more power and feel in the brakes. - Van
Hi Brain, is this brake line kit longer than Oem? My new rear set requires longer hose length to fit. Also, should I torque the banjo bolt to oem spec ( 33N.m)? because the bolt looks like made of Aluminium which cannot take amount of force.
100% do not torque these aluminum banjos to the OEM spec, they will snap. This kit is OEM length. If you need the line to be longer please contact us directly to order and we can help you get that done. - Van
HALO BRIAN after i change the rear brake line and brake pad, my ninja speedometer is not function (always show 0 ), also the engine light and abs light are always on. do u know why my bike like this??please help , many thanks!!
I have a ninja 650 2017 abs. The connector to the abs module looks different and aren't banjo bolt. Could I still be able to remove these and add a banjo bolt?
I'm not sure a flexible hose is better than a hard line. But its about the color, right? Also, why not just use any one of many power syphon tools to bleed? Your using a lift and most tools your customers dont have anyway....🤔
I am using a lift because I have one in the shop. As for bleeding the brakes I have a power bleeder that I use when I am getting the bikes ready for the track. For the videos I prefer to use the manual method as this is what our customers will most likely be doing. - Van
IMO there is no reason to do that. I think Brembo has one but do will need to do some research to see which one would be appropriate for that bike. - Van

Really hard to say without having the bike here to listed to the noise. If you feel it is abnormal I would suggest taking it to the dealer ASAP so they can have a listen. - Van
videogamerkp yes, according to my Kawasaki Ninja 400 manual, the ABS for the Z400 ABS and Ninja 400 ABS is set up the same way, the lines are the same length too.
Both are good bikes, especially for beginners. Don't buy either without throwing a leg over each one. You may discover one fits you better than the other. If both feel about the same, then make your choice based on new vs. used. If you are considering a brand new R3, then you should probably save a little more and get the larger (but lighter) Ninja 400. Excluding physical "feel", appearance/color preferences and brand loyalty, the Ninja 400 beats the R3 in every way. If you are more "budget conscious", there aren't many used Ninja 400s yet, so your choice is clear (R3).
This is the ABS model and the lines are on the bike with zero issues. Massive improvement in the braking feel and power with this mod, highly recommended. - Brian Van
nuraiman abdullah when it isn’t working, the ABS light will not turn off and you will get a ODB II code if you have an adapter to plug in an OBD II reader. STG sells the code reader and adapter for the Ninja 400. Another way to check is a physical, jam on the front brakes and feel the ABS kick in. Most important is bleeding the brakes properly, normally changing the ABS brake lines with a compatible ABS line kit, doesn’t effect the actual ABS pump.
I need this shop in my life. Holy crap, the place is surgically sterile. My shop, in comparison, is the mechanical equivalent of stone knives and bear skins.
