Story 1 dad may end up having to do what a Grey's Anatomy Dad had to do for his gay daughter when his wife wanted her to go to one these places to fix her and the daughter ended up the hospital because she was certain no one was going to defend her. The dad told his wife either she stops, or he'll divorce her, take full custody of their girl and he'll make sure she'll never see her mother again. Because parents shouldn't care if their kid is gay. They should care that their kid is loved and happy. If they can't do that, then they're not parents, they're abusers.
OP's (hopefully soon-to-be-ex) wife should AT THE MOST only be allowed supervised visits with the son, if for whatever reason the courts decide she should be allowed around him period. I 110% wouldn't put it past her to use any visitations as an opportunity to arrange for him to be kidnapped and taken away to one of those awful places.

Story 2: OP is not the A-hole and should loudly state that NO MEANS NO whenever approached by affair sibs. OP should also request that the principal shuffle the schedule so that they have these common classes in different periods, have different lunch periods so that the harassment stops.
I feel that OP is going to end up talking to them one day soon and he needs to be prepared to explain why they will never have a relationship and are not family. Inform them their dad is a liar and cheater who betrayed OP's mom while married multiple times. Point out to his daughter their age difference and that court records will show she was conceived while dad was married to OP's mom. Tell them there are more court records to show that man went to jail rather than pay child support and has never visited OP. Last story. I say this as a dog owner, OP is not the idiot. Sadly the world does not stop because you lost a pet. Yes, OP could be understanding, especially since it won’t affect him, but not one else would be so. While pet owners can often understand that other pet owners see their pets as members of their family, not everyone does get that, and as sad as it is, most people are going to think that she didn't lose a mom, dad, sibling, or child. She needs to understand the world will not wait for her to be ready to move on before it starts making demands of her
I doubt the sister will ever pay OP back. Any time OP brings up the debt, the sister will get the vapors because OP reminded her about her late dog - even if it's 10 years later.
The world might not wait, but with family, there should be more grace and understanding afforded...especially if this is more on principal of being paid back vs needing to be paid back. The sister should absolutely pay her brother back. But it was a bit callous to not talk about reworking the payment date when the death was still fresh. Family should be a refuge. When you lend money to close friends or family, working solely on principal or by contracts without grace, will change the dynamics of that relationship. In lending large amounts of money to family or friends, context of who and how well they are doing in compared to one's own financial status, should be factored in as well.

They claimed they were gay off and on. I think they were bisexual but unaware at that point. The best way to “cure” Noah’s feelings is to support him. I rarely advocate for divorce when I comment here but, this time dad needs to split from his wife over this conversion therapy camp. I had a friend who was forced into one of these camps and he said it was the most painful and horrible experience he had ever experienced. He is a very smart guy and was able to cut ties with his family as soon as he was 18 years old. He’s never looked back at his parents and never reconnected with them. He was able to keep contact with his younger siblings who supported him, but his parents never changed their opinions about him being gay.
Dog story: YTA the dog just passed, and you said you don't really need the money, give her some grace and time. I still remember what it was like when my cat passed, I was crying for 2 months. It hurts when a beloved pet dies. My aunt lose her cat a year ago and still cries from time to time and we are by no means crazy cat ladies, it just hurts to lose someone close. You both should have realized the agreement was stupid. For starters after that kind of vet bill, do you even think for a second she has that kind of money? No. This is why you don't make deals without thinking. When she becomes emotionally stable again, make it so that she pays you something back every paycheck she gets. Your family, not a loan shark.

Last story: As someone who was absolutely devastated when my dog died (I don't even look at dogs the same anymore. Though that could be in part due to the depression 😂), NTA. She promised to pay it back on a certain date. Her dog dying doesn't change that. I am not a crier. I don't even cry when I'm alone but especially in front of others. I took my baby to the vet - she had already been deteriorating but this was different - and she had to be put down that day. It was super unexpected for me as I didn't think it had gotten that bad. Well we had to put her down and then as I'm there crying I had to go deal with the bill. Except I don't normally keep much money in my checking account and instead would transfer most to savings. So when I went to pay, my card was declined. So I had to stand there in the lobby, with the receptionist waiting, crying, right after unexpectedly having to put down my dog, and had to go on my phone to transfer funds to my checking account to pay for it. And I'm someone who does not like people, almost to an extreme. So she was, and still is, very important to me. And I say all this, to say I very much sympathize with the sister about losing her dog. But that's still not an excuse to not pay her brother back when she said. Idk, it's just something I thought about. A bit long winded though. 😂

Dog vet bill story: Yeah OP is a unsympathic AH. She's in mourning but he is literally not giving a fluff about her mental wellbeing and what she's going through. Grief is the worst time to be harrassing family members for money almost immediately after the deadline. the last story is so odd to me, if only because nobody in my family is ever expected to pay anyone back. The 1st story, staying for the daughter is the wrong answer as we know his wife will not only ruin their son's but their daughter's too. last story... i lost my dog in march 2024, so i can completely relate with the sister. vet bills can be expensive, and by the looks of it, the sis spent even more money than she had to save her dog. OP is a massive ass to just demand, demand, demand, instead of talking with the sister on possible solutions. Sure, she could also be proposing those solutions, but i would be burned if my relative was this uncaring after the death of a beloved pet. Give her space to grieve, or offer alternative solutions. "Let's talk next month" should be a great starting point.
I can't tell if you owe money to family members or if you are incapable of pattern recognition. The sister jumped too emotional manipulation as soon as he reminded her. She needed to ask more time. Also from what the mother said the sister had no intention of paying the money back
@ I am actually the wealthier brother in my family, just like OP. I lent $10k to my youngest sister in 2020 during the early stages of the plague. She only paid me back full this year. Never asked, never had a problem with her taking her time.
Speaking as a gay guy, divorce might be jumping the gun here. Kids coming out is hard for parents, too, and they deserve a little grace and time to get used to the idea. Get wife into therapy first to hopefully deal with her issues. If she wont come around, then leave her and take the kids.
I would take it further and insist that due to broken trust, therapy and marriage counseling is a must as our very marriage is on the line. If she refuses either, then divorce would be the only option.

Story 1 dad may end up having to do what a Grey's Anatomy Dad had to do for his gay daughter when his wife wanted her to go to one these places to fix her and the daughter ended up the hospital because she was certain no one was going to defend her. The dad told his wife either she stops, or he'll divorce her, take full custody of their girl and he'll make sure she'll never see her mother again.
Because parents shouldn't care if their kid is gay. They should care that their kid is loved and happy. If they can't do that, then they're not parents, they're abusers.
OP's (hopefully soon-to-be-ex) wife should AT THE MOST only be allowed supervised visits with the son, if for whatever reason the courts decide she should be allowed around him period. I 110% wouldn't put it past her to use any visitations as an opportunity to arrange for him to be kidnapped and taken away to one of those awful places.

I rarely advocate for divorce when I comment here but, this time dad needs to split from his wife over this conversion therapy camp. I had a friend who was forced into one of these camps and he said it was the most painful and horrible experience he had ever experienced. He is a very smart guy and was able to cut ties with his family as soon as he was 18 years old. He’s never looked back at his parents and never reconnected with them. He was able to keep contact with his younger siblings who supported him, but his parents never changed their opinions about him being gay.

I am not a crier. I don't even cry when I'm alone but especially in front of others. I took my baby to the vet - she had already been deteriorating but this was different - and she had to be put down that day. It was super unexpected for me as I didn't think it had gotten that bad. Well we had to put her down and then as I'm there crying I had to go deal with the bill. Except I don't normally keep much money in my checking account and instead would transfer most to savings. So when I went to pay, my card was declined. So I had to stand there in the lobby, with the receptionist waiting, crying, right after unexpectedly having to put down my dog, and had to go on my phone to transfer funds to my checking account to pay for it. And I'm someone who does not like people, almost to an extreme. So she was, and still is, very important to me. And I say all this, to say I very much sympathize with the sister about losing her dog. last story... i lost my dog in march 2024, so i can completely relate with the sister.
vet bills can be expensive, and by the looks of it, the sis spent even more money than she had to save her dog.
OP is a massive ass to just demand, demand, demand, instead of talking with the sister on possible solutions. Sure, she could also be proposing those solutions, but i would be burned if my relative was this uncaring after the death of a beloved pet. Give her space to grieve, or offer alternative solutions. "Let's talk next month" should be a great starting point.
I can't tell if you owe money to family members or if you are incapable of pattern recognition. The sister jumped too emotional manipulation as soon as he reminded her. She needed to ask more time. Also from what the mother said the sister had no intention of paying the money back

I lent $10k to my youngest sister in 2020 during the early stages of the plague. She only paid me back full this year. Never asked, never had a problem with her taking her time.
Speaking as a gay guy, divorce might be jumping the gun here. Kids coming out is hard for parents, too, and they deserve a little grace and time to get used to the idea. Get wife into therapy first to hopefully deal with her issues. If she wont come around, then leave her and take the kids.
I would take it further and insist that due to broken trust, therapy and marriage counseling is a must as our very marriage is on the line. If she refuses either, then divorce would be the only option.
