In Kaido's words: It's not like Jack is weak, there are just people stronger than him.
i mean, i could say the same about don krieg and alvida, alvida wielded a massive metal club like is was a stick, she's stong as hell, but unfortunately for her, almost everyone in this world is much, much stronger
yeah best villain is a huge reach.. I didnt even put him in the top 50 of my own personal taste.
@@San-lh8us yeah East Blue is like the real world in terms of how you’d scale all the pirates there in terms of power
also it should be noted that before getting almost defeated by Sulong Inu and Neko he almost single handeldy defeated the entire rest of the Sulong Army (with the help of a Number and some fodder who I suspect weren't much help)...imo that's one of the most impressive and underrated off-screen feats we've ever seen (well we didn't see it, but it happened)
Also the Sulong form itself did Jack dirty, because in my headcanon that was by far the strongest we've seen any of the Wano Samurai get...none of the others had such an all around power hack ability, and without it they actually stood no chance. It would've been interesting to see how a prolongued fight between Jack and Ashura Doji or Denjiro would've turned out (as they were potrayed as the strongest Samurai, but without Sulong)...but without any confirmation I can only guess that the fight we did get was the necessary choice as Jack would've deafeated anyone else (who wasn't preoccupied with an even stronger foe at the time).
You know a character has been done dirty when the author has to specify that in story
Smoker: Stand Proud Jack, you are strong.

It’s weird. Because I know that. I know that as a fact. I haven’t FORGOTTEN that he’s a fishman.
Yet somehow it surprises me every single time.
no true fishmen
Yes! This! 🤦🏼♀️
Shame Jack would've been a better matchup against Jimbei who is also a fishman than Who's who, strength-wise.
Also a battle for the title of strongest fishman is interesting, plus we've never seen Jimbei nor Jack showing full power.

I kind of feel like Jack might have been intended to die at Zou, but was changed at the last moment. The only reason I could see him kept alive for Wano was for the Minks to get their revenge, but even then, Zunesha one tapping him was honestly more satisfying.
Oda doesn't like killing his characters, that's a pretty well-known fact. Unfortunately, sometimes, it's really to the desservice of said character. I agree that Jack should have drowned after being hit by Zunesha.
I dont think Jack had the right to face the Minks again after that. it would have been best imo if he either drowned or fought and lost to Jinbe
I thought he was kept alive to go underwater
@@doubl2480him dying wouldn’t make no sense since he’s a top commander of the big bad in Wano

Power creep in a nutshell
Funny story. When I first heard about 'Jack the Drought', I was convinced he used his big elephant trunk to suck up all the water in town! Hence the name, Drought. So all I could picture in my head was the poor townspeople begging Jack to stop drinking their precious water, and he just responds, "No". "Shut up." I honestly wish this was canon. Imagine what he'd cause in Alabasta! XD
Nah he is just mowing the lawn giving the impression of drought
The best explaination is that Jack was truly a natural disaster then Zunesha traumatized him and gave him an elephant PSTD... But as he himself an elefant, he auto-trigger his own PSTD 24/7
That would be a very good explanation
that's so funny
To be fair, being trapped in the ocean, still able to breath, completely unable to do anything to escape his predicament, possibly lost forever in a body of water so big you could just never be found in a million years, would fuck someone up.
@@ShadeKirby500 Yeah but to be honest I don't know if it was so traumatic for him, like he likely can comunicate with the fishes and seek help and he know by fact there are people searching for him and likely to find him in a short time
@@YataVSTheWorld Most Fishmen don't communicate with sea creatures. That's more of a merpeople thing. Considering he had to explicitly call out to people on the surface to pull him up, I got the impression Jack was not one of the exceptions.
I think the next antagonist you cover should be Spandam. He wasn't a physical threat, but he was given a lot of power in the Water 7 saga, and was very despicable.
Or Kaido since he’s probably the most wasted potential in the series
Jack on Wano really comes across as your typical schoolyard built. Growing up in an abusive home being constantly picked on by stronger siblings he goes to lash out and pick on those weaker than him to make himself feel better.
except the fact that he didnt give a single fck on whoever his fighting outside the beast pirates 😂😂 dude heard senguko and admiral isho and said "nah id win" (he lost 😂), dude has a high survival instincts to a point i still wonder why tf is he still alive. his the embodiment of "ill accomplish my mission no matter what" a true disaster compared to king and queen, dude is willing to devastate an entire country just to find one ninja 😂
@michaelka3071 tbf I don't think it was known that Sengoku and Tsuru (I think she's severely underestimated) were escorting Doffy with Fuji. He was dumb for thinking he could beat an admiral anyway but I give him props for trying
@@afropirate6470 im pretty sure one of his members yelled "its tsuru's ship" but i could be wrong, tho its not an excuse anymore when it comes to jack's level in underestimating people like tsuru, cause they fully know well how strong the old generation of marines are. him being dumb enough to fight admirals is probably due to his constitution as his not a normal human, and he has an ancient zoan fruit to back up his strength, point is jack has full confidence in himself to a point that he might think he can just waltz into marineford steal something and go home😂😂😂

The fact that the first Billion berry bounty was… him… is so sad honestly
Makes sense tbh. He’s like kid, he has a high bounty due to destruction and carnage, not because of pure strength and ability. He’s big and durable but uses poison and leaves a lot of innocents bodies behind
@@sharebear421 Honestly to me it doesn't really make sense If he's that headstrong and destructive but not that powerful he should have gotten wiped out long ago by just picking a fight with some one stronger

Yeah. Sanji's and Katakuri's bounties is not much bigger than his...
.but they are A LOT STRONGER
I think what happened is that Big Mom wound up taking up Jack’s role in Wano. Jack is honestly the most beastly of the Beast Pirates. Imagine if after Jack’s failure, he comes back as the darkhorse of the Beast Pirates and he winds up surpassing King and Queen to be the second worse threat on the island.
Jack will be coming back since Oda made a massive point that he was still alive under the sea.
@@step2058that was in zou, in wano he just lost

jack is a greatly designed villain, but for me personally katakuri should have a comeback
@kxiju8531 Idk if BigMom and Kaido will have a comeback but I feel like their crews should definetly play a part (probably just a minor one) in the final war. At least the BM Pirates should still be active because what unites them is family and katakuri is the typa guy to protect that bond for his siblings and give a fuck about BM. With the Beast Pirates I'm not sure if they`ll handle it more like the WB Pirates and disband because their captain is what united them
For me, Enel should have a comeback
I can see that, Katakuri hears about Big moms death at luffy and wants a fair amount of revenge. Sure it was Big Mom, But it was HIS Mom.
@@AnthonyDaFox true but I also feel like he would be relieved. I mean he knew it was coming. Luffy told him himself and Katakuri didnt keep on fighting afterwards
@@lorenzrenner1866I'm almost positive both big mom and kaido will return
I remember the hype behind him once his bounty was revealed.
By the time we went to Wano the dude was just a walking punchline
Agree. I think there's definitely a world in which Jack could be both the runt of the family and a true menace to the heroes.
He could have played Who's Who's part against Jinbei. It would have been interesting as a Fishman physical and moral confrontation. He could have been the fishman that "betrayed" the "Fishman way" of sorts.
Like knowing about the Sun God belief but not adhering to it, not joining the Sun Pirates, eating a Devil Fruit. He could have been a "bad timeline" version of Jinbei.
It's more like fishmen betrayed jack since kaido had him since young age.

Honestly, Jack should've gotten a better treatment as one of Kaido's All-Stars. Then again, I'm not Oda, and that man is a mad genius in how he's writing/drawing his story.
Now the next one I'd love to see GLR tackle is Foxy. I want to see how many shots he takes on the guy. XD
man he forgets things as well, he is only human
Wano was when I realized just how human Oda was. He makes blunders and gets fatigued just like anyone else.
Its no wonder he's started taking frequent extended breaks since Onigashima ended. He must have seen how his work was degrading, and has now opted to take the route that pays off better in the long term. Whats a couple weeks off here and there when the quality of the story stays consistently amazing (referring to Egghead)?
Jack is the closest thing to kaido's son
The person doing the editing and drawing is one of the best if not the best.
Jack committed cultural genocide and ends up a joke
People think Big Mom turned into a joke but thats not true. She has humor but she was always frightening and held a real power not just in her ridiculous devil fruit but in her empire of children and countries.
Jack killed many Minks and traumatized a generation but somehow he returns to Wano a joke. I still don't get it. Its not like how Gear 5 is intentionally created to bring Kaido down to the level of mockery. This one was downright not very good writing from an otherwise peak author in a peak arc
Great Vid as always.
Can you do Kaku's best friend Robert Lucci next?
15:04 Jack would probably be one of the most popular villains if that happened I swear lmao
Could’ve made sense as well with him maybe trying to start impel down 2 instead of being just another fighter in Wano
Zunesha beating up jack was interspecies violence
Next antagonist: Smoker or Rob Lucci
Lucci is awesome
Smoker, not so much. Even if I really like his design and personality
Jack did his job, showed up tortured some animals, showed the level of an Emperor's subordinate and how terrifying they can be
I'd love to see your opinions on Caesar clown in the next one of these and love the vids GLR keep it up.
You forgot, Sasaki was a fishman who ate the triceratops fruit and he too joined Kaidos group mate
Keep up the great work and videos Liam love the video
To me, Jack was missed opportunity for Raizo, The whole Zou arc was about getting Raizo and he was tied up and couldn't help. If they made it about Neko, Inu and Raizo teaming up to take him down would have been amazing! But no, Raizo stood in a fucking fire pinching the air for 20 chapters
Had Kaido, his Three All-Stars and the Flying Six had Awakened their Zoan forms, would they stand a chance against Luffy and his crew and their alliance of pirates, samurai, ninjas and Minks at the Raid of Onigashima?
i was literally hoping oda gave them awakening to give all the straw hats a challenge but that didnt happen sadly
His haircut is the real crime.
Hell nah the viking/barbarian look suits him very well
It still makes me chuckle every time I see Inuarashi and Nekomamushi drawn as Brian Griffin and Garfield. lol
I remember when luffy fought karakuri I was comparing katakuri with jack then wano happened and I forgot he existed
Nah no cap Jacks introduction and run until getting swatted in the ocean was cold
Carrot should have been the one to defeat Jack.
It would justify her ascension to Duchess showing she can step up and defeat the one who brutalised her people.
Put aside her personal vendetta against Perospero and protect her people from the one who most likely would come back for round 2 with Zou in a timeline where the raid fails.
I suppose that would've been a bit questionable in terms of power scaling for Carrot to surpass Inuarashi and Nekomamushi so quickly, but hey, this is One Piece. Characters get stronger really fast all the time. Just think about how in a few days Luffy went from getting oneshot by Kaido (after Kaido effortlessly tanked all of his best attacks) to being able to beat him.
But yes, having Carrot do what Inuarashi and Nekomamushi couldn't and take down Jack in a one-on-one fight would've made it far less of a "where did that come from?" moment to have her be named the new leader of the Minks.
@@RedXlV Exactly.
Characters will get a strength boost as Oda sees fit.
Look at Law. He went from weaker than Dolfamingo to being able to take hits from Yonko in a matter of weeks, with no suggestion he fought at all in the interim. He also awoke his DF offscreen as well without explanation.
And if we're talking about insane gains look no further than Zoro and Luffy, the former learning and mastering Conq. Haki in a single arc, and the latter mastering all 3 forms of Haki & awakening his DF in that time.
Carrot is heavily implied to be a Prodigy among Minks since she mastered Sulong at 15. Even Pekoms of the Big Mom Pirates can't claim that. When he went Sulong he lost control, and the vast majority of Sulong Minks on the roof got no diffed by Jack, only the Dukes could take him.
She very nearly beat Perospero (who no diffed Chopper and Brook on WCI, and is comparable to Jack given how Oda mirrored them losing to the Dukes, and admitted if not for the moon being covered he'd have lost - so this puts Carrot well above the average Musketeer Mink) and One Piece is all about the new generation taking over from the old.
Having Carrot lose to Perospero and get promoted anyway feels unearned. It feels more like a narrative cheat so Oda can write her out of the story than it being the logical progression for her character.
Carrot choosing to forgo personal revenge to protect her people would show growth for her character and make her promotion to Duchess feel earned.
She could’ve at least defeated peresporo at least, she needed to defeat at least one of them
@@Deathmare235 Yeah. There's no good thematic or narrative reason I can think of for why Oda had Carrot lose to Perospero. It's not a powerscaling issue because Oda will Zenkai Boost his protagonists if he wants them to win (and she would have won if the moon didn't get covered), so having Carrot lose was a deliberate choice.
At first I thought it was to show how her motivation of revenge was misguided and wrong...But then much of the reason the Scabbards want to kill Kaido and Orochi is to avenge Oden - and they are never shown as being wrong for this.
Plus Cat Viper defeats Perospero anyway (to avenge Pedro) so the "revenge is bad" message does not hold up for why Oda had Carrot lose. Having her get promoted anyway is dumb because she did not earn it.
@@PlanetZoidstar I still don’t understand how law got so strong, wasn’t the only time he could’ve trained was in zou cause there’s no way he was able to train in Wano unless wer’e really underestimating Doflamingo
Do you think it could have been intentional? It's like a bully at school being very tough and strong but then he goes home and his berated by his siblings and father and regresses to a childlike state of weakness...
Jack really is the santana (jojo) of one piece
So fun fact. When Bellamy returned to the blue sea from sky pier, the gold pillar he brought back was the same the skpieans were gonna give the straw hats. Meaning that he actually fought everyone on that island which probably resulted in the death or imprisonment of his crew. And all the very famous scars he has now.
I get your point, but consider: the biggest threat to date at the time, acting like a 'child' with Kaido, was solely to hype Kaido to unbelievable levels. If that monster, Jack, bows to Kaido.... What the hell is Kaido's power level ??? I think that was the narrative purpose of Jack
They went a bit too far with that, there was no reason to make Jack look like a complete joke
@@Deathmare235 Yea I agree. But it's kind of the same with Pica imo, it's the kind of random thing Oda likes to do aha, big guy suddenly brought down because why not
@@KydEv pica was never a powerhouse
Psst you should do either Katakuri or Lucci next please. Love these videos keep up the great work!
Is the grandlinereview store finished? I loved the shirts. Was hoping for more 😢
This random man on the internet really can make any one piece character sound beastly
With Jack's epithet being the drought and Jinbe being a fishman I don't know why Oda didn't make them fight
And they are both fishmen
It also would've been fitting to Jinbe's place as one of the Straw Hats' top 3 fighters besides Luffy. Each of them taking down one of Kaido's top 3 guys.
This video reminded me of two things
1. That I am only capable of remembering Dogstorm's english name and not his Japanese name, and the exact opposite with Nekomamushi.
2. That Jack was held back by Ashura Doji of all people. Truly saddening
Wait, I just realized both as well.
Dear man on the internet,

I am eagerly await Foxy's S+ tier golden spot. But I understand why you're saving him Mr. GrandLineReview. Always the best for last.
I think when they realized they needed to shorten Wano they brought in Big Mom to kill two emperors with one lava pit. That left Jack to be placed behind King, Queen, and Charlotte Perospero. Charlotte Perospero wasn't even a Sweet Commander so not sure why it was him and not one of the others besides justice for Pedro.
Jack was only hyped up because both cat and dog would fight 1v1 and neither got to use the moon powers. Jack just had good endurance, he couldn’t even beat cat or dog in that amount of time, people should’ve known he wasn’t gonna be that hype and it makes sense why he lost so easily against both in their peak forms
It makes me wonder, if Raizo actually joined the fight, would the 3 of them together beat Jack? I think that maybe yes, they might.
That actually brings up another question. Cat and Dog stopped fighting among themselves when Kin and Momo arrived. But Raizo was already there. Wouldn´t he have stopped the fighting first?
@@johnyshadow
They had chained down Raizo so he wouldn't turn himself over; plus I doubt Raizo would have allowed them to fight for him due to the risk of casualties.
@@DBArtsCreators Yeah, there´s a lot of "what if?" surrounding that whole situation.

This video really helped me see Jack in a new light. Perhaps he should have died in the Zunesha encounter. I would love to see Caesar Clown ranked.
He was introduced as the right hand man of kaido, I wonder what changed for oda to make up a new right hand man in king
Honestly, when Jack was first shown he was an absolute menace! A monster of monsters even compared to some like doffy. I was really sad when they turned a natural disaster into a joke in wano😓
I am not one to really criticize Oda for writing the one piece as it is in my opinion one of the best stories written, but he really did Jack dirty.
sanji the drought, he's so thirsty that everywhere he goes people think there's a drought.
Really fun idea to think about what if he was defeated in Zou. That definitely would have made Wano less bloated and interesting to see who would have taken his spot as one of the All-Stars. Cool video Liam!!
You never fail to review your grand line all over my face 😊
Jack is the Sanji from the Beast Pirates.
He is strong, but he is constantly made to look bad to hype up other characters and unlike Sanji he doesn't have the luxury of being one of the protagonists so he never has the moments of redemption that Sanji has from time to time.
Kaido - The Frieza
King and Queen - The Zarbon and The Dodoria
Flying Six - The Ginyu Force
Jack - The Vegeta
Doflamingo - The Raditz
Swap the last two.
Jack is the Cui
Yamato is the vegeta (since she betrayed kaidou just like vegeta betrayed frieza)
He is quite well written in this regard. He is literally a younger sibling. His natural disaster and aggressive personality on the outside, is all the younger sibling pent up rage. A younger sibling being bullied by everyone in the family. Well, they will not negotiate, they will not be reasonable, they act eradically and with pure anger and rage. There is no reason or negotiating. He is literally portrayed as a younger sibling start to finish. He comes from an abusive family where he is bullied and abused mercilessly from his siblings. So he is letting out his pent up rage and anger.
100% accurate younger abused sibling behaviour start to finish.
11:12 👀soooo...nobody gonna talk about what happened to jack😂
I honestly blame alot of wano's villian problems on the dumb decision to bring big mom to wano instead of defeating her back on whole cake, every scene with big mom in wano SHOULD have been used to give the villians of wano more screen time and depth instead of wasting time on the villian of the previous arc. Big mom's presence in wano really hurt the arc overall more than it helped
More than*
Problem is that in order to defeat BM on WCI the entire story would've had to be changed.
In the scenario we got (half the SHs infiltrating WCI and Luffy not even knowing about advanced haki) there was absolutely no way Oda could've written a believable BM downfall that wouldn't have looked completely unrealistic.
Yeah but if we did defeat her on wc we probably wouldn't have gotten the fight with katakuri.
honestly i agree that big mom shouldnt have been on wano but not her losing on wci, she should've been saved for a future elbaf arc where we get to see Luffy vs Big Mom as a showing of how far Luffy has come where he beats a character on a level relative to kaido much easier.
@@giantenemycrab1192 The problem is that Kaido was hyped up too much, so beating Big Mom after would be unimpressive, unless the strawhat crew without Luffy would actually beat her.
One villain you should rank is blue jam! The major antagonist of the post-war arc who almost brought down an emperor and the 2 division commander of the white beard pirates
I'm almost at the end of the video. Another thing I think you won't note. Is that Weavel (however you spell it) came around this time too and no lie they run together in my memory like paint. Sometimes I think they are the same person.
I think it is Wevil
Jack was a good reminder that the crew you're on, and what they do, has a greater effect on bounty than actual danger.
Jack had the showcasing, setup and raw power to be a major opponent. And he didn´t even get to fight any of the strawhats...
Only 2 strawhats were capable of beating him and they both had stronger people to deal with.
@@Par-Blindspot You´re forgetting that there´s a power quartett instead of a trio now. Jimbei vs Jack might´ve been rather fun, Fishman v Fishman
This made me remember my dream this morning. It included a small part of handing Shiki different style legs to suit his mood. Curved sword legs, ones that looked like a partisan axe head, at least two different gun feet one of which was a gunsword leg...
Love how eloquently you explain fictional pirates 🦜
Is it just me or Jack using dance powder would have been perfect for his alias “the drought”
Jack is indeed one of the most underrated villains 8n the entire series
Jack at Zou is like the little brother who finally gets to be in charge, he treats everyone like he has been treated 😂
He got Worf'ed or Superman'ed. Introduce big guy that exists to get put down to show how threatening other things are. Which just ends up making everyone look weak.
Honestly thought the entire time that Jack is a Human-Fishman hybrid.
Bro what if gorosie were a single devil that divided himself like vegapunks who ate human devil fruits
Jack being a fish man with a devil fruit was the craziest news I got from oda
First RUclips account i watch notifications for.
GLR: Jack had a bounty of 1 BILLION berries, which at the time was the highest bounty we had ever seen.
Whitebeard: am I a joke to you? (5.046 billion)
Has anyone heard the speculation that the Devil Fruit that Yamato ate was meant to go to Jack, and that Kaido saw him sort of like how Big Mom saw Kaido in their Rocks Pirates days?
I think if Jack had been rolled in with Whos Who and became Jinbei's main foe, then it could have been a way to place Jinbei on a par with Sanji/Zoro and given the Mammoth some much needed character.
Failing that having him actually be killed by Zunesha would have had the narrative impact you stated and reinfirced just why the minks live on its back when there are islands they could colonise
I think the Jack matchup in wano arc should have gone to Usopp, Brook or even Chopper.
Mainly because they had no enemy to take on and strictly in support positions, but also because this arc showed that the Crew needed more firepower/finishing blow type attacks to take out such durable enemies. And these 3 are severely lacking when it comes to this level of opponent.
Luffy, Zoro and Sanji naturally grew as they do every arc, jinbei got his first power showing and Franky had the shogun any way. But even Robin and Nami found ways to increase their power in the form of demon forms and Zeus-directed lightning.
I get oda was done with Jack, but all the more reason to have him as a brick wall at this level, forcing the crew to level up during battle. Especially seeing how they all care so much about the minks.
Hell i'd argue even Page One was under utilized, but he was just a device to hype Big mom in the end.
Hi Liam! Do you have any Vegimite/Marmite spreading tips for a non-Aussie? Only a small amount is needed, but I find it is so hard to get good coverage
Eat it straight out the jar like a true Aussie
Jack getting bullied by his older brother figures makes me think he wrecks other places to unload that anger. The whole violence begets violence thing.
Sometimes you just have to admit that Oda fumbles on some characters.
Oda gave him a beastly bounty just to have him serve as fodder and be surpassed by the other yonko's 3rd commanders.
In the end, Jack's integrity as a character was sacrificed so that Wano could end, just like with Big Mum.
The thing about Jack to me is not "finished with the idea at Zou", but the dismantling of the disaster following a lot of how One Piece is written: make something feel insurmountable, then reverse and poke fun at it. The ideas are one and the same really, especially when placed against the cocky chaos that is Queen.
Queen is exactly where I think there could have been an improvement to Jack; a begrudging moment similar to Queen's begrudging respect of King. Alternatively, screwing up the hornet's nest would have been more appropriate to one of the ciphers or the sword agents than Ashura-Douji...or have the initial naval part complemented by Jack being the intercepting force after the initial barrage.
Jack is the Smoothie of the Beast pirates, great potential but not greatly used. It's just sadder for Smoothie...
Jack’s intro/bounty panel will always be a favorite of mine. For one, he’s fucking fucking menacing with her horns, giant chest, and general Viking design, the first time we ever saw the elusive 1 Billion berries, flat, plus his name; “Jack”. It’s such a simple name and maybe even unimaginative, but I think that’s the point. Just a standard four letter English first name, contrasting Jack from all other characters as someone simple, but masculine and a brute who will charge through anything
Have I been the only one to notice how he’s not just a mini Zunesha, but Jack’s base form looks very similar to the iron giant on Egghead. I think there’s more history to Jack coming whenever we find out more about Joy Boy 800 years ago.
Not stepping in on the roof was important because it was very important to Jack’s honor to fight for his Lord alone like that
Jack does have an eye close up in wano, in the first panel where he arrives in kuri there is a closeup on his eye behind the panel of him sitting on the lizard
Did I just see Doflamama here 00:27 you madlad?
That speak part haha Normally it's the human saying it to the dog but here it's a monkey mink man telling a fishman human mammoth to speak to a dog mink man
