This movie was incredible. One of those ones where you walk out the theater feeling good. One of the best written movies of the year the monologs in this was great
You a time traveler? It says it releases on July 29th.
@@ebogar42 yea? And it's August 20th I've seen it
@@sebastiandeases1139 I'm stupid. I completely forgot what month is was. 😂😂
Yes it is an incredible movie, but I am not sure I could say I feel good about the story.....
100%
I went to see this with my parents and enjoyed it. It's got some darker themes and about 3/4 of the way into the movie is when the silliness goes away, but it's very intriguing and has just the right amount of hilarity. The grandma saying "you can't kill somebody with a .45 cause it'll be the breakdown of society" and then turning around and saying "you're gonna need a 12 gauge, couple of AR-15's, and a sidearm for safety" elicited a lot of laughs and applause in my theater
yea. ignorance and violence is hilarious. a failing Empire is hilarious too.
Was this only showing on that date. I still can't seem to find it and I have an amc theater near me
the movie has nothing to do with America; its built on extremely biased stereotypes having nothing to do with TEXAS; to be an extremely racist movie exaggerating culture stereotypes. As an attempt to explore morality it has none; and the character of Kutcher is a pure fabrication. It reminds me of Borat; let us remind ourselves that Tesla, Samsung, apple, indeed, amazon, and many others are in Texas, growing at 6% which doubles the infrastructure every 10 years; and all here because of what isn't right everywhere else.
I watched it randomly, and it was freaking fantastic. At the start I wasn't hooked but after it gets the plot rolling I was connected to the story, the people and I wasn't expecting that. Great movie.
"What if you were driving a real car? With gas and stuff." I can't stop laughing at that line.
I know right it's so damn funny
I almost choked on my homemade latte and I belly laughed out loud through the entire trailer. I haven’t been as excited to see a film since Francis Ford Coppola finally got His finest film, ( I will fight you on this,) Apocalypse Now.
He nailed that line 😆👌
I laughed so hard in a movie theater when I heard that 😂

this movie def should be nominated for screen play. this script is so well written
thanks I pitched it
@@OG-NASA no you didn’t idiot
LOVED this movie. Written beautifully. BJ is a wonderful writer and actor. Wonderful movie, you should see it for sure!
Let me tell you something...BJ Novak is such an underrated writer that I'll bet this is a huge hit
Depends on how he treats it. If it’s with love and respect, it’ll be good. If he just condescends and makes fun of southerners and right wingers, then it’ll be schlock. But Hollywood does reward schlock like “Little Miss Sunshine” if the film’s politics agree with theirs.
I don't watch anything created by his phenotype

Saw it last night, you it will definitely be a hit.

I lived in Lubbock for five years, and this trailer felt like it was for a documentary. David Byrne, eat your heart out.
Sure you did....Lubbock is nothing like this lol. This is just another "texans ride horses to work" low IQ strawman parody
Lived in lubbock for 2 years and want to go back. Cant wait to see this movie
Live in Lubbock currently. Can confirm.
Same! Lubbockite here and I love that they featured Texas Tech!
Lived in Lubbock 10 years, went to Texas Tech.... yep
When I saw the Whataburger and the Texas Tech/UT scene, I said "someone's been to Texas"...
But we didn't see Taco Cabana...
…because the film is set in West Texas. The land of Rosa’s and Taco Villa.
Goddamn Texans are simple
There was a taco cabana in Lubbock in the early 90s

Really enjoyed this one. One of the best films I've seen in awhile that's not Marvel/StarWars related. Made a grown man cry.
Heart knows heart.

As someone who lives in West Texas, this movie gets it!
just saw it last night, and I leaning towards to putting it up there as one of the top films released in 2022. Ashton Kutcher floored me with his performance.
Best movie I have seen this year' lot of heart and a simple message at the end. I may see it again before it goes e to streaming.
😂😂😂😂 He had like 5 minutes of screen time... This movie was far from meeting my expectations...
@@RUclips_deletes_my_comments He had significantly more than "5 minutes of screen time," and he was sensational with all his time. Great move.

Easily one of the most underrated movies of the year, masterfully crafted and hilariously funny
Saw this movie yesterday, and I CANNOT recommend it enough. This is such a little hidden gem of a movie.
A little movie that feels huge because of the weight it carries so effectively.
Paid advertisement 101
Really? I stopped watching after 30 min because it looked very boring. I guess i'll give it another shoot.
I loved it too, beneath all the comical take there is a beautiful story and inculcating theories over how mankind live their life. I love it.

This movie should have been a huge hit. So strange how little reception it has got since.
Maybe because some of us are sick of being preached at and proselytized via movies and TV shows?
>>Between 2015 and 2018, B. J. Novak, who lives in Los Angeles, California, took several trips to Texas to do research for a film he wanted to write about a blue state podcaster who travels to a red state.
lol they do not even hide their biases.
@@notsocrates9529 I didn't feel I was being preached at. This movie didn't have any real ideological bent to it.
@@vangoghsear8657 I'm good.
Living in a west Texas this movie accurately represents what it’s like to live here and I love how he does this with sincerity.
Hi fellow Texan here, and I agree with you. Usually when the movie industry portrays Texas, they never get it right. The small town Texans in this movie are like real people that you would meet.
I saw this movie last night and LOVED it. It's much better than the trailer makes it look.
I just saw it today, and I agree with you 100%
Im about to go watch it we’re just hesitating whether it’s a good one or not
I can attest to that. The film itself is exceptionally better than the trailer makes it out to be. In fact, it is truly one of my surprise gems of the year and that's a pretty good honor. Exceptionally well balanced with its mystery and natural comedy, and the 3rd act truly feels earned and shocking to see play out. Definitely check it if you can.
100% Beautifully written and conceived. Tremendous heart.
It's gonna have to be way better. I saw this recommended on Twitter and thought I'd check the trailer. And it comes off as one of those cliché god awful comedies with how this trailer was paced with the jokes.
this looks hysterical ! and, as a resident of rural Texas, completely accurate !!! 🤪🤠😅
"How do you take your coffee?"
"In the mouth..."

to be fair, there are coffee enemas so maybe home girl just needed to clarify. Actually a really effective in cancer treatment
Just watched this and it was excellent. Masterful filmmaking, great job done by literally every single actor, and an enthralling story. Loved it and I can't wait to see what B.J. Novak makes next.
Same here, came to watch the trailer afterwards, and as usual I'm glad I watched the movie without seeing any trailer beforehand. This trailer reveals waaaay too much.
@REVOLUTION TV Well, sucks you didn't like it. I thought it was excellent. Mismarketed though; it's not really funny, more of a straight drama.
What genre are you into then?
Is it still in theaters??
@@loki-of-asgard7877 it's on blu ray and streaming since like a month
@@loki-of-asgard7877 I live in a small town in England so we get movies really late, I think it's still showing at our little cinema.
"You look like a lot of those guys from that movie" is just so brutal that it can't be ignored. Mel Brooks level.
Best line in the movie
Such a great movie. I was surprised at how genuine and heartfelt it was. Really hope BJ Novak writes and directs more movies like this! ❤
I grew up in West Texas. This is hilarious. They had to have lived in the culture to get it right. Finally a good summer movie.
Texas wants to be its own Country. unless free Federal money is coming in, then it wants to be Murca.
Grew up in Odessa,TX and this film is so damn accurate they had to have spent time here not just visit but lived around here to get such authenticity.
Bit of a slow burner for about two thirds of the runtime, but BJ Novak's writing makes the final act well worth the wait though. It's a real pity there isn't more buzz around this gem of a film
Love seeing Des Rocs get some long overdue recognition 🖤
I don't go to theaters anymore, because movies these days are crap, and streaming series are so good. I just streamed this yesterday, and it reminded me of how great films can be. So well rounded and such a great experience!
This is a world where Ryan Howard and Michael Kelso met!
You’re not a true West Texan if you don’t understand the capacity of the rodeo crowd scene regarding the universities haha so accurate!
Exactly 😂 Wreck Em!!!
yea, they can't afford the Universities. not their fault, but Education should be valued regardless of its artificially high cost. without them, the Nation is Toast in the Global Economy.
@@TheLinuxYes not what I’m talking about. My point was that no one in west Texas likes the University of Texas. Its all Texas Tech fans.
Funny, sad and at root, a kinda sweet story. A lot of funny, quotable lines along with a very human, very honest storyline. This was B.J. Novak's (along with a remarkable casts) best work. Definitely a 'must-see'.
Yes. A must see. I saw it a month ago and can’t stop thinking about it. And referring to it.

LMFAO...I'm sold on this dark satire!
This is one of the best movies I have seen in a very very very long time. 💯
So good. Rented it and should have purchased. Can’t stop thinking about it.
As a Texan when the Meemaw (granny) listed 12 gage and a couple of ARs for vengeance with a bottle of Whatsburger sauce on the table, I was like "YESSSSSSSSSSS "! LOL
And the kid nodding aggressively “yeah”
it could've been a just serious movie criticizing our modern society. But with the humorous lines, the movie's complete. best movie recently i've watched
This movie is definitely not a "Netflix" movie. This movie is "big screen theater", "THX" made. B.J. Novak has leveled up from "The Office" writer outstanding, to a movie script/screenwriter great! This movie makes you think - makes you want more - hundred percent.
Love this movie--lived in Texas 20 years & met all these characters😁
The movie was far better than the trailer. The dark comedy goes away and it becomes a brilliant philosophical movie with a solid point. I also thought it was just gonna be another movie mocking the south for their stereotypical stupidity while the smartest people are from the north or CA, but it later flips the narrative.
I've been following the updates on this film since 2019. Considering he wrote and directed the best jokes on the Office, this is gonna be a banger
this moive is so much more than this trailer. the trailer got me in and I stayed for the real message it's trying to deliver
It's good. Lots of dialogues that make you think. Starts comical, but I really got sucked into it. Just enough of everything: interesting story, emotions, laughs and more. My compliments.
WAY better than i expected! I loved the ending! Not as i expected!
This movie was far better than any of those blockbuster movies we go to see in the cinema.
Finally a GOOD looking comedy movie! Comedy movies are falling by the way side, hopefully they start bringing them back more! I'm sick and tired of superhero movies.
Without a doubt, this is my Best Film of 2022. Incredibly detailed mystery screenplay that runs surprisingly deep and profound, while hitting every comedy note at the same time. Terrific ensemble cast directed with a light, but sure touch. B.J. Novak for the win.

So happy to have stumbled across this movie on Amazon :)
I wasn't born in Texas but I've lived here since I was a few months old. This film was a brilliant indictment and celebration of what it is really like living here. Kudos to Novak for pulling that off, it is one tough tightrope.

I am SO MUCH looking forward to seeing this film.
This was quite simply one of the best movies I’ve seen over the last decade. The characters were extremely layered and complex, the protagonist endured his own journey and the ending was quite simply completely fulfilling. THIS is how you write a fish out of water story. In the middle of watching this and so far it’s excellent! I’m from West Texas and recently moved to Upstate New York. Love the deep, poetic monologues from random characters. Reminds me of my childhood. The obsession with guns and conspiracy theories are part of the reason I left Texas. Sadly.
Just finished the movie, and though this comment itself goes against the theme of the movie itself, my take is that it’s fucking fantastic!

@@professorXcross Ashton Kutcher had at max 10 minutes of screen time... The southern stereotypes portrayed were stretched so far in this movie it just became goofy... Sure there were a few comical moments but overall this film gets a D- grade...
