I love the idea the that the writers of this show thought the audience for a Tom Clancy show would want the theoretical "good guy" opposition party leader in Venezuela to be a leftist college professor when the biggest fans of his books are owners of a drywall company who protested Reagan for not selling the Contras white phosphorus.
All those OG Clancy fans are dead. Besides thats not the purpose of the show or the intended audience. The audience for this show are the people that vote and don't reflexesively suoport the MIC, but who can still be convinced into supporting the MIC by a culture permeated with shows, movies, books, news segments and articles that give off the vibe that the CIA isn't full of former DevGru psychos run by a board of corporations for the purpose of seizing gas, oil and lithium etc. Jack Ryan is there to tell those people that the CIA is actually run by principled professionals in cardigans and lanyards that want to stop terrorism and nothing more.
The biggest fantasy is a successful major back surgery. Maybe this is all the final fever dream of someone dying of opiate addiction following surgery.
Krasinski has been overcompensating since he lost out on playing Captain America - Jack Ryan, 13 Hours, and A Quiet Place - he has to be the bearded super badass at all times.
Captain polish/america A pip squeak from southy is given a serum in his dunkin donuts bottomless cup of coffee. Also, his nose looks like a freshly plucked turnip.
I also think he labors under the same insecurities as Leo DiCaprio. Both are iconic for being these lovable guys in a cultural behemoth. They feel anxious about their masculinity. So they just take on every role where they can play the ultimate tough guy to compensate.
I would love a scene in the show where they stumble on a cache of missiles and think they hit a dead end until they open one up and realize there are actually super missiles hidden inside the regular missiles
lol just to get confidential security clearance you have to pledge, and i quote directly from the e-qip 2 weeks ago "unquestionable loyalty to the U.S."
How outdated this looks just a couple years later now that Brandon is making good with Maduro because he needs oil, after the Ukraine thing. It's particularly funny how newspapers in my country, that literally get their talking points directly from the US embassy, suddenly stopped calling Maduro "dictator" and he's now "president".
I'm Colombian, and it has been really funny seeing the right wing leadership of my country , all of a sudden feeling betrayed by the US, throwing hissy fits after years of declaring the imminent death of the Venezuelan regime.
I feel so much better about unironically enjoying Homeland now. At least that show has some recognition the key players are mentally ill and engaging in evermore desperate acts of futility and escalation.
The best part of all of this is that it came out at the same time as the US attempting to coup the Venezuelan presidency, and failing at it in the most public fashion imaginable. Contrast Krasinki cosplaying as an operator with the actual operators pissing themselves on a dock while being detained by Venezuelan security
Also, the entire political situation seems almost completely cribbed from Peru(except the far right presidential candidate is like a general in stead of the daughter of a former tinpot dictator). I mean, the Peruvian president is even a former teacher. Though, something(read: all of US history in Latin America) tells me a real Jack Ryan would've likely been quite unhappy with the leftist former teacher becoming president.
Krazinski is the best. He ate shit on the Captain America gig so went all in on being an alpha beard bro but he’s never getting over that he lost that role. And now he’s pivoted to being a “writer” with those naff quiet aliens movies. Never quit being insecure Krazinski
I watched an episode of this with my dad. A lady tries to blackmail Jack Ryan with revealing he/his friend was responsible for a massacre in Baghdad. In Georgia. This scene was in exurban Georgia. My dad was like “they’d hail him as a hero!”
@1:25. My friend is from DC and grew up knowing the term “spook” as it relates to CIA agents. I’m black and grew up knowing it as a slur for black people, so this “spook lives matter” joke hits different hahah
The really unforgivable part of this show is how dumb all these spies, assassins and politicians are. If the Venezuelan president had not killed a US senator, the season would have ended right there.
Fucking hell... "Boat secret service" "Congress is a gun"... Fantastic.. I think they both tell a story.. New screen plays. Also jealous of Felix's smooth bruv voice. It makes words good smart sounding.

Man, the showrunners missed a big opportunity and should've mixed that whole thing with some Havana Syndrome narrative. Or did the show come out before that Havana Syndrome panic?
It's crazy how many people don't understand us involvement in these countries that there's a million dollar show taking advantage of people being uninformed
I gotta admit, I'm a pretty smart guy, but until I started getting into left leaning ideas thanks to Chapo I had virtually no knowledge/interest in Latin America.
Look at the media laying the groundwork 😂… The U.S. is currently working through Guyana to steal from Venezuela 😂.. Jack Ryan was just softening the blow 😂
Huh, in the 2nd book of the Three Body Problem trilogy, The Dark Forest, there's a plot with a Venezuelan socialist president, also named Reyes, who also is an enemy of US/NATO, and also ends up getting ripped to pieces by a mob of His fellow countrymen. Hmm...
The opening is lifted directly from the book Red October i believe. When i read it many seasons ago i remember thinking the same thing about a black guy in russia. Russians are "not woke" about black folks

I hate John Krasinski as much as I hate Jim Halpert. Clancy's early books were very good, but I've found that TV and movie adaptations have been Jim and miss.
