    Yay, another Aaron Brown video!
    It occurs to me that if too many people misuse and abuse statistics like this, this may cause people to discredit ALL statistical figures, and rely on ideological views instead. After all, if you can massage the statistics to support any view you want, then what's the point of relying on statistics? And this is why Aaron's videos are so good, because he explores how the statistics are being abused, and how they should properly be used.

    When my dad was ten years old in 1958 20 dollars was worth around 220 dollars of today’s money. That is why people of his generation lose their mind when they hear about minimum wage being 20 dollars an hour. When they were kids “20 dollars” was literally 200 dollars!

    Yeah, I have heard the same claims from the industry EVERY TIME the minimum wage is increased. " oh no, you'll lose jobs" bla bla. Given that the minimum wage has gone from $5.00 to $20 over the years and we still have fast food restaurants and fast food workers, I'd say that we have definitively PROVEN that raising will NOT affect the number of those jobs over the long term.

    It is not just political points, the government collects payroll tax. And if the business fails then the spot is open for the government to take it over. This happens with small landlords when they can't pay their property tax.

    Its that minimum wage increase that made the prices of everything everywhere go up, right? not corporate greed.

    • @forgetitfolks
      @forgetitfolks 7 часов назад

      No, that is simply inflation that causes prices to go up. There are many factors for that but the issue isn't that inflation occurs because it will always occur. Prices will always increase across an economy. To put it simply, we won't pay today for an item what Thomas Jefferson paid for it in 1790. Think about it this way:
      $1 in 1790 is $34.29 today
      $10 in 1790 is $342.93 today
      $100 in 1790 is $3,429.27 today
      $1,000 in 1790 is $34,292.72 today
      $10,000 in 1790 is 342,927.17 today
      $100,000 in 1790 is $3,429.271.74 today
      $1,000,000 in 1790 is $34,292,717.39 today
      $10,000,000 in 1790 is $342,927,173.91 today
      $100,000,000 in 1790 is $3,429,271,739.13 today
      $1,000,000,000 in 1790 is $34,292,717,391.30 today
      So as you can see those you describe as having "corporate greed" experience the same inflationary effect. Elon Musk's net worth (as opposed to how much many he actually has access to which is significantly less than this amount) is $432.99 billion. If inflation didn't exist, his $432.99 billion net worth would be worth:
      $14,848,403,703,260.87 or fourteen trillion eight hundred forty-eight billion four hundred three million seven hundred three thousand two hundred sixty and eighty-seven hundredths. Without inflation, Musk would be a trillionaire and not a billionaire. It's not "corporate greed" that's causing "prices of everything everywhere to go up." The cause of prices going up is when you target the bottom for abuse and that is what the left does. It's relative because the people who are hit the hardest are those who are driven out of the economy or who are forced into unemployment or underemployment. It is those who end up working at a certain job for life because the left has replaced the leftist institution of slavery with the minimum wage or "living wage" as they now refer to "slavery." People should NOT have a living wage at low paying jobs because these jobs are not meant to be permanent or to provide everything someone needs throughout their entire life. An 18 year old woman is not meant to work in fast food while getting married, having children and stay in that position for 60 years while always being given enough to "live." The people who did that sort of thing were those who had slaves on plantations. They also believed people should have a "living wage" but their "living wage" was zero and those people were given universal housing, universal food, universal clothing, universal health care, universal retirement, etc. The problem with this is that these people were seen derogatorily by the leftist proponents of the leftist institution of slavery. They didn't believe these people could ever amount to anything and because of that they felt that society owed their slaves a "living."
      The "wealthy" aren't the ones who are preying on the poor instead it is the left which consists of a Dark Triad made up of massive corporations, large labor unions and big government. The wealthy and the poor are the sole drivers of human progress and as such are lifting up everyone but there is another group of people who add nothing of value to the world and that's those who think like you. The only reason people like you even have a "living wage" for life is because you deny others even the basic human dignity of being able to compete with you or engage in the pursuit of happiness. We know that the "minimum wage" does what you think it doesn't for several reasons.
      First, leftists were far more open about what the real reason is for the minimum wage. In other words, you said it in the past when you said you didn't want those you thought were "degenerates" (specifically blacks and the disabled) to compete with you for the same jobs and the minimum wage would ensure those like you the job while ensuring they wouldn't get a job. The "minimum wage" which is a conspiracy of massive corporations, large labor unions and big government is NOT designed to help those at the bottom. It's to help those like you!
      If John Does, who has a severe disability, wants to work for a living and have feelings of dignity and self-worth and applies for a job in fast food that pays $20 an hour instead of $10 an hour and David, who is a selfish asshole, applies for that same job but doesn't have a disability then a "productivity" culture, that the minimum wage or "living wage" has created, is going to ensure that this $20 an hour job is going to David and not John. David gets a 40 hours a week at $20 an hour job while John gets $0 an hour for 0 hours a week. Prior to the minimum wage, John may have been hired for 20 hours a week at $10 an hour and David may have been hired at $10 an hour for 20 hours a week. The employer might feel empathy and compassion for John and be willing to experience the mild negative effects from John getting 20 hours while David gets 20 hours. The entire "productivity" culture that drives people to work more, longer and for a minimum wage is based on driving out those who can perform these jobs well and gain something from them.
      That 18 year old woman I mentioned should not be working at a "living wage" for 50 to 60 years until she is 68 to 78 when doing so means that someone else is not going to have a job at all because of her. It's all nice until you look at who it hurts! No one is so low that they need to work at the bottom of the ladder. I'm sorry to be blunt but that 18 year old woman is not so disabled or unskilled that she will always be scrubbing the toilets of the Jill Biden's of the world. She doesn't need a "living wage" from scrubbing Jill's toilets while Jill says ""From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs" or her paraphrasing it as:
      "From me according to my ability to be First Lady of the United States, to me according to my needs as First Lady of the United States" and "From my toilet scrubber who votes for my husband according to her ability to scrub the First Lady's toilet, from my toilet scrubber according to her needs to continue scrubbing my toilet for the rest of her life." It's absurd and it's disgusting! The minimum wage DOES NOT help people, it's not designed to help people. It's designed as an anti-competitive tool of massive corporations to keep small business owners from competing with them and large labor unions to keep other workers from competing with them. It's sick and it's evil and you are evil. What you don't understand about the minimum wage is that its not designed to guarantee employment or a "living wage" for those workers instead it is designed to prevent certain people from being hired. Massive corporations can continue to demand more and more productivity from workers who are paid increasing minimum wages while they get the benefit of having less competition from small business owners. The two things the minimum wage raise in California did was:
      1. Drive the small business competitors of massive corporations out of business so massive corporations can accumulate more and more control of the economy
      2. Drive the non-union competitors of large labor unions out of employment so large labor unions can accumulate more and more control of the economy

    The minimum wage increase has been great. While many fast food chains were already above $20 (such as In-n-Out) the failing businesses were culled by the market, which made room for more owner/operators who can go toe-to-toe with the best as long as they aren't undercut by ultra-cheap labor. And, due to competition, and just the broad trend, commodity prices went down overall (check GSCI if you don't believe that).

    • @ehanneken
      @ehanneken 13 часов назад +5

      But consumers were worse off because the cheaper options were eliminated. And workers were worse off because they lost their jobs, had their hours cut, had to work harder, or had non-monetary compensation reduced to offset the wage increase.
