Posting “ghost jobs” should be illegal because if it is used by companies to boost investor confidence in growth then the act is deceptive and can deemed as market manipulation.
I think that if somone can identify these 'Ghost Jobs," they should immediately post them on to LinkedIn and identify that company as a Ghost Employer. Tag that employer across the network so that they do not get the attention they are seeking for talent. Anyone else have any ideas to cut down these Ghost Employers/Jobs?
@@dropshipincanada 😂 how are they complaining? Not everyone can just start a job. But for some reason, I’m getting the feeling that you’re some spoiled brat maybe who was born with a silver spoon in their mouth and that’s why you probably were able to just start a business. Or mommy and daddy and family helped you start one or you work for a family business. Most people can’t just afford to start a business.
But nor do they mention the fatigue of HR resources having to go through thousands of applications by people who KNOW they are not a good fit for the job, but apply anyway.
@@rubyxfinity8634 no, that's very relative and it's your job to do that. How about the HR people who know it's a fake job and they still advertise it? Don't play the victim - you're playing the devil's game.
.... That doesnt really make any sense. A fake job would imply that the JOB itself DOES itself and you can be hired FOR it, but that you dont actually do any real work, hence, a fake job. Whereas a ghost job is a more recently recognized term that adequately describes a completely different scenario, a real job which describes real work (at least it CAN), but the advertising for a vacancy IN that job, is in fact, not a real vacancy.
Don’t expect a soft landing. We know inflation still far from its 2% destination - the FOMC didn’t raise rates now, we can never fortell their moves these days
I agree It’s always good to have a balanced fin-plan. I work with a professional planner multi market and fixed-income strategist in NY. the fixed income portion of your portfolio won’t simply serve as a buffer to the volatility of the equity portion of your portfolio, but will provide legitimate income.
I've shuffled through investment coaches and yes, they can be positively impactful to an individual's portfolio, but do your due diligence to find a coach with grit, one that withstood the 08' crash. For me, Sophia Maurine Lanting turned out to be better and smarter than all the advisors I ever worked with till date, I’ve never met anyone with as much conviction.
ikr? "They are actually... for jobs that don't exist." So it is okay for companies to create fraudulent postings in order to deceive both employees and potential employees? How is that not a scam? How is stealing an applicant's time, or allowing staff to continue to work under unacceptabe conditions without additional compensation NOT a scam?
it's not a scam, it's a requirement by the government to make things appear fair. The companies can hire someone from within or a friend of an employee but still needs to post the job listing for a period of time.
Sometimes they hold onto your data to check if you apply again in the future and compare that application with your first one to try and catch you in a "gotcha" moment
LMAO no. It's a legitimate thing to keep talent's names in a pool so a company could actually hire them when the need arises. It reduces costs on their end so they don't have to procure headhunter services as they already have a stack of resumes they can go through. Not all companies are Facebook.
And guess what, companies NEVER go back and look through the resume file when they DO actually need someone for that position. They assume you’ve gotten a job by then and just re-post.
"Those jobs aren't scams. They're from real companies. They're just for roles that don't exist or the company has no intention of hiring." Oh, so they're scams.
Just fired recently and been looking, learning this the hard way, it’s so frustrating, big companies say “pEOplE dON’t wANnA wORk” and these same companies do bs like this
A lot of executives are sociopaths or somewhere else on the dark triad, they're never going to blame themselves for their mistakes. Especially since their own screw ups are probably the reason the company is short-staffed to begin with.
Instead of using that energy to develop better products and better marketing strategy, they waste resources to do this. Clearly, this shows that upper management is ineffective. The rot starts from the top. It will take years for these big companies to go down. Like a bigger ship with small holes, it takes time to sink. If they're lucky, someone might be able to identify the holes and plug those.
All they said was “buy more $hit, and here’s a credit card to pay for it” Our society is just a complete free for all otherwise. There is no “just do this and it’ll benefit society and you’ll be secure in your income to live” It’s “risk your future, maybe it’ll pay off…or you’ll be miserable, I don’t know, some people got rich, what more do you want??”
When you're job seeking for 6+ mo, you start to recognize re-posted job openings from the same companies. You, then, realize those are all of the ghost jobs.
Completely agree with you. I have seen companies still post jobs even though my connections told me that the company had a hiring freeze. I've also seen jobs get reposted repeatedly for over a year even with hundreds of applications applying for them.
100% accurate. There's several jobs in my area that seemingly repost these jobs over and over and have absolutely no intention of filling the positions. for years i've seen the same ad over and over. I'm more than qualified for the position, applied several dozen times over the years and never ever see the positions filled or the listing removed.
I applied to several hundred jobs last year after being laid off and it still took 7 months for me to land a new one. Despite reports that the economy is supposedly okay, this job market is a dystopian nightmare.
The acceptance by some companies to allow fake job postings is not a signal that the economy is bad - it's more that companies have fewer scruples, and are run by people who are okay wasting LOTS of people's time to find "the best candidate" on paper -or- to steal applicants information (including how they phrase skills) -or- to boost their own valuation to investors. All scams.
How did you do that? The report mentioned people sending in hundreds of applications. I can't even imagine that being practical or possible. With each job having a different hiring or application process, that just seems crazy to me.
The white collar job market is a goddamn nightmare and has been for the last few years. However, if you want to flip burgers or be a server, then the market is plentiful. The blue collar/skilled labor market seems to have the right balance between salary and availability.
Ahahahaha they’d never do that, because they’re getting paid by the people posting the ghost jobs! LinkedIn Premium automatically filters them out but it’s also quite expensive. And even then, they’d never let premium users see actual suspected ghost jobs with a flag that honestly says it because it’d only take a few sharing the news with friends and family to really disrupt the system. Instead the ghost jobs just disappear… like ghosts.
They will never do that. It affects the engagment and time spent on the website. They have investors that they need to keep happy and show increasing engagement numbers. You can also see this based on all the bloat linkedin has added recently.
I remember that. In hospitals, they are obligated to post job openings publicly but they hire only already known ppl through someone. Others, come for a fake interview with no intention to hire.
This is the current MO for academia as well. At least for full time positions. There has been some discussion lately about how they're just not seeing the endless supply of fully qualified applicants they once did anymore for the completely garbage adjunct or hourly positions.
Yep happened to me. I had to ask my friend for a job I have no experience in. They said yea we will hire you. I was like….wow that easy? You truly need to know someone to get a job it seems. Could just be my luck?
Correct me if I'm wrong, while there are laws mandating the posting of some openings there are no laws prohibiting the posting to clearly state "position filled" or "pending" much similar to how real estate postings are. I'd actually go one step further and require job sites to develop a filter to filter these postings out and discount them from all appropriate metrics.
Flooding the market with ghost jobs should be illegal. You are literally wasting the time of thousands of people and congesting job search websites making it much harder for job seekers to find work. Companies found in breach of this should have to pay fines to the government.
And some of these companies have the nerve to require you to create an account on their careers page just to apply to a job then when they reject you for the job they have the nerve to suggest you follow them for future opportunities. Huge waste of time
Make them pay 3 times the yearly salary of the posted fake job for each offense. That way it is in the company's best interest to hire someone instead of paying the fine.
Why didn't they mention the main reason Ghost Jobs data are used is to find out if they can reasonably replace current workers in that position with ones willing to work a lower salary? They skirted around it but never stated it.
I've experienced this myself. Applied for a position with $75k salary. Got no response but the job got reposted a month later for $70k. When I saw the same position later offering $68k i knew they were just trying to find the sweet spot.
Thank you. I was waiting from them to say what the point of these "ghost jobs" were. Their explanation that it's to keep the company relevant, didn't make sense.
its been a rea thing for the last 20yrs I've work it was referred to as "resume mining" at one point it created list of well qualified people for when there was a job - on the good news side I've gotten jobs because I applied to the place a year or two back and when there was a need the database spat me out so not all bad but it is upsetting not getting replys.
i picked up on quite quickly. i've applied for hundreds of jobs online, and not a single one was a callback. the only thing that worked was recruiters like Robert Half and later on in life, networking. i would never search for a job online or go through a recruiter again. i have a ton of contacts that can help me get a job these days, good paying jobs, at good companies. recruiters will dump you in the worst job possible, but at least it's a good stepping stone. the jobs i got over the years from contacts were posted online after i accepted the job, just for formalities and legalities.
Similar to how the news reports on Trump. As if a person with 34 felonies, 6 bankruptcies, 3 failed marriages, and a R@PE conviction is a normal presidential candidate.
I worked for a marketing company that would regularly put our job up and have people apply. I would regularly have people come up to me and go hey, are you moving on to a new job? I saw they where hiring for your position. The CEO left to do this on a regular basis He called it keeping people on their toes So if you happen to call out because you had the flu or were sick they would immediately post your job and force you to come back to work with the doctor's note and hopes that you wouldn't so they can move you on out move someone else into your position and of course pay them much less. It's harassment and they're getting away with it why cuz we have a week federal government that doesn't protect its worker doesn't enforce any of the loss and allows employers to do this and play these games.
The psychological impact of having to continue to mooch off my parents because I cannot find a job anywhere is really unbearable. At this point for the sake of feeling like I'm going anywhere in my life, I'd almost rather live out of my car. 100+ carefully crafted applications, 5 rejections, 1 interview, no offers
We have to be very careful with the way the laws are written. We are already morbidly obese with bureaucracy. One reason why employers are overly picky is that it is so difficult for them to make things up to code.
Slovakia made this kind of stuff illegal. Every time a position becomes available or a new one is created, employers have to report it to the local ''job centre''. Employers can advertise open positions online or find employees through those job centres (they often get extra money from the state for employing unemployed people from job centres) but they can only advertise the actual open/new positions. They can't advertise something that does not exist. It falls under ''false advertising''. Another good thing is that they must state the salary in their adverts. I know it's a thing in some countries where employers advertise a job but they will only tell you what the salary is when you come to an interview.
@answerman9933 lots of false leads, endless interviews that went nowhere, a bunch of gigs that would give you 'skills assessments' that were really ways to scalp your work for free, unpaid labor before ghosting on you, etc. The web development industry is notoriously difficult to break into, you pretty much need to know a guy who knows a guy in order to get your foot into the door. Only choice I had was cold-calling/applying online which is the worst option you can have. No I was not selective in the least. Many times I would complete/pass the skills assessment but would get beaten out by another who did the same thing but better, the list goes on. A lot of jobs in this industry are contract-based as well.
The network engineering industry is the same, you really have to know someone to have a snowballs chance of getting a job. Had a CCNA but declined to pursue further certifications and even renew due to the fact that it is nearly impossible to get a job there in the industry. Used the certification to go a different way. Engineering is wonderful if you can get a job, otherwise it sucks cause it’s nearly impossible to get one.
The audacity for that man to say that ghost jobs aren't a scam. Sir, they ARE a scam! It is deceiving job seekers by posting a position that is not actually real from a company that is not hiring. It's deceptive, time consuming and just wrong.
Scammers collect information for the purposes of selling that information to use for the purpose bypassing identification checks or to gather data to then scam those individuals. This guy was trying to say it's not for that purpose. The companies are real. They may use that data to hire someone if something comes up.
I've always felt that filling out job applications online was one of the most degrading things i've had to endure because I did waste a ton of time filling out applications and not receiving any responses at all. It is very frustrating and it should be illegal.
It feels like a never-ending cycle. You have to go through the motions of filling out job applications, pretending each one is a real opportunity, even when it often feels pointless. I really hate applying for jobs, but it's something you have to do to actually get one.
Copy the job description onto the bottom of your resume, then change the font color to white so that the naked eye can't see it, but automated scans will register the "key words". If that doesn't get you a call or an email, then there is no job.
After applying for 6 positions in the last three months through the companies own websites, I’ve been told 6 times that the positions were already filled. And all of those positions are still showing up asking for applicants. So yeah, this whole system is dumb.
@@HH-le1vi yeah I get that. The situations might be different, my situation is I have a construction job full time, it will end next spring. So I can be selective for now. It’s still b.s. they do this with job postings.
Have you guys considered that you just aren’t as qualified as you think you are??? Most people don’t bring anything unique to the table, just the same basic skills that many other people have, therefore lots of competition
I’ve already been giving these companies 1 stars and leaving a review stating that they are posting fake jobs. See how they’ll like that. So far my reviews have worked on shaming these losers, let’s make this a thing guys.
Not sure about the investor thing. It doesn't make sense. I bet it is something related to the HR department experimenting "new ideas" as if the 9 phases interview was not enough
@@visualprefHow does it not make sense? If it looks like a company is hiring 10,000 new positions, that means the company is growing and is making money, which is good for the investor.
I agree, workers have to do something. One thing I've noticed in the independent contractor world on LinkedIn is people speaking up right on the threads about crazy job requirements (drug tests and criminal background checks for freelance writers to compose a few blog posts each month?) and lack of transparency about pay, including posting huge ranges to skirt regulations about compensation disclosure.
as a retired disabled support help, i would say that the best job right now is to work from home for an investment manager who will hire you to do records. i make over 260k annually.

Experience in reading and writing financial reports is also key. For opportunities, reach out to Graciela Lynne Schriewer, as she helps people connect with investment firms
Someone should develop a ‘ghost jobs’ database and website to highlight the most notorious offenders, helping job seekers avoid wasting their time on these listings.
That is a great business idea. If you did that and monetized the website, people would flock there, you’d make great money, and would be doing a tremendous service.
Yes! I remember seeing websites like that for reporting fake/dangerous/gold-digging/cheating/scamming dating profiles. They were very successful in outing and stopping the worst offenders.
❌The problem is not only with ghost jobs, but also fake jobs😡 Some listings ask job seekers to make something for them or edit something for free claiming its a part of hiring test but it’s actually fake listing to steal job seekers work😡
A scam is a scam, whether, it’s run by a scammer or a ‘real business’. They are still collecting people’s information with no intention of providing them anything in return. Don’t excuse them by differentiating this from a scam.
Yep! They benefit 100% no matter if the job is real and they are hiring or it's a fake posting. They will always sell your info and make money off us. The entity has never cared about the individual.
@@dakawans83I want SOME people to get interviewed and SOMEONE to get a job in return. Not everyone wins in a lottery, but if no one does, well, pretty sure THAT’S not legal! 🤨
exactly. If they post ghost job, and I saw that they indeed didn't take anybody and just reposted position again and again. I'd not go to apply again to this company ever.
As if those companies care. They want to list fake jobs and they know what they're doing. They know they can get away with it. Watch Second Thought and More Perfect Union for how we can deal with these issues and fight for workers' rights. We need regulation and punishment for fake job listings.
I'm with you on this. The whole process is a mess. I've been using an AI tool in my interviews - it listens in and gives me answers in real-time. It's a bit shady, I know, but it's helped me tremendously, especially with those trivia questions that have nothing to do with the actual job. Companies need to be held responsible for wasting applicants' time with these ghost listings.
That's so cruel. Some people looking for a job need money to eat. And those companies postings and profiting from those fake ads (Linkedin, Indeed etc) know that. It should be made illegal.
How can you profit off a fake ad? You have to pay for the ad. What's so illegal about putting an ad out there? Gives you false hope? Makes what ever political party is in power look good.
Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime... I used to live in Asia where even employed people go fishing in the Mekong after work. Now that I'm back in the west I'm shocked at how people just expect food to drop from the sky... If you have money, you buy food. If you don't, you catch something. No time to whine when someone else is gonna catch your fish!
I have never heard of a company going through old resumes to hire from for a future job opening. They just repost the job for fresh new applicants to choose from. Job applicants aren't applying to jobs they'll get hired for in a year or two. They're looking to get hired yesterday.
Ghost jobs should be illegal. Both for employees and people who want to accurately measure the state of the economy. Creating ghost jobs is a form of cooking the books and should be tantamount to fraud.
100%. There are massive amounts of hours spent by interviewees perparing and going on these interviews. Anyone caught doing ghost jobs should have to pay a full years salary to every applicant. That would shut it down immediately
Yeah agree. If it’s illegal for a company to cook their books and report more revenue than there actually is, then it should be just as illegal to report more open positions. These employers might not be directly scamming applicants, but they are scamming their shareholders who think the business they’re investing in is growing more than it actually is. Crazy that this is happening in an era when most fortune 500 companies are reporting record breaking revenue quarter after quarter. Greed is seriously out of control.
@@Chad_Max This is a "pick yourselves up by your bootstraps" just-so story that allows you to justify unethical behaviour of large corporations. Your enemy is not some liberal working in Starbucks.
@@Chad_Max Are you kidding. Making people jump through hoops to apply for something that’s not even there is kind of cruel. And then the reality that 96% of applicants don’t even get a simple response even if it is “Sorry, but thanks for applying.” If businesses treated clients the way they treat applicants, everyone would be out of business.
Ghost jobs should be illegal, the amount of waste in time and frustration for people is absolutely a detriment to the nation as a whole. Companies that partake in this should be fined for doing this garbage.
Rule #1 If you ever want to get away crime (almost all kinds except violent) the first and only step is to create an LLC and label yourself a "corporation" or "company" Rule #2 The US societal standards and laws (or any unspoken agreement) ONLY benefits corporations and businesses.
So if I fill out a job application incorrectly, I can supposedly get in trouble for fraud. But if a company puts out fake job listings, it's not fraud?
Apples and oranges, a fair comparison would be if you apply for a job just to go back to your current employer to ask for a raise, which many people do.
The one talking about using job applications for fake jobs to create KPIs like it was this normal perfectly fine thing was just cringe. It's like listening to someone in a cult.
Last year, I was working full time, budgeting groceries, unable to afford date nights, and missing time with my kids. Now I learned how to make money online. Now am a SAHM, homeschooling, and making profits every week.
Everyone needs more than their salary to be financial stable. The best thing to do with your money is to invest it rightly, because money left for saving always end up used with no returns.
This happened to me this week. I had an hour interview, and at the end, she told me she doesn't have any work right now, but she'll keep me on file. It was a complete waste of time. I could have been actually working. This should be illegal. There is no reason to post jobs for market insight. There are surveys available for employers to build total comp plans. That is completely unacceptable.
"Keep you on file"! Are you supposed to wait for her to crook her finger at you, so you can jump? WTF? At my age, I would have said, "Don't bother." But when you are starting out, you tolerate a lot of horse sh*t because you need a job.

They have one goal: Protect the company. You are expendable to HR and the company and the second you are no longer useful, you will get thrown under the bus and sacked. It doesn't matter how valuable you think you are, they don't care. You are a cost center to them. They lie and say they care about you, but they don't. They have zero loyalty to you, always remember to pay that in kind and have zero loyalty to them.
I have been unemployed since April. I have put in nearly a hundred job applications, with only 5 interviews, and somehow none of them have worked out. In years past, I only ever needed one interview and I would be hired. This year I have also noticed almost all of those interviews started with a phone interview, which wasn't as common in my experience in the past.
Tips that always got me jobs within 2-3 months. When reading the job ad, pick out the key words and phrases in it (some get repeated more than once in the job ad). Then put those key words and phrases in your cover letter and resume. BUT NEVER more than 3 times in your cover letter and resume combined - the ATS machine the company is using to field resumes will know you are doing it on purpose and will reject the resume. What I did, say the job ad mentioned needing “writing skills” three times THEN I would put the phrase “writing skills” ONCE in my cover letter and TWICE in my resume - ALWAYS write the keywords and phrases in your cover letter and resume EXACTLY as they are stated in the job ad. ALSO, for your cover letter, concerning the company you are applying to, READ about the company on their website and put a bit of that information in your cover letter related to why you want to work for them. And how you can benefit from them as an employee. Also, put some important skills (related to the job ad) in a short paragraph in the cover letter. For interviews, Google questions an interviewer might ask, as many as you think - I wrote down 50. And make answers for them all, but in a natural way to say to the interviewer. Good luck!😊
From the time of my layoff with my last job to the start date of my current job and entire year had passed. I spent a whole year sending in applications and doing interviews. I know in that time I had sent over 1000 applications, easily. In the end I got two offers at the same time, strangely enough. But again, that was after a year of struggling. And I have advanced degrees. Overtime you can see the ghost jobs popping over again and again. It's so frustrating. But you're right, my interviews ALWAYS started with a "screen call" or a "phone interview" first.
I like how one guy said it isn't a scam and then another guy said it's a means of building confidence from investors that the company is growing (when it isn't). So... scam.
"Not scams but don't actually exist" please define scam, my friend. This practice should be illegal, you want to keep your options open and appear as though you're growing by wasting the time of prospective employees and causing untold stress and anxiety.

You're correct. I think the smartest way to go is to spread out your investments. By putting your money into different asset classes like bonds, real estate, and stocks from other countries, you can lower the risk if one part of the market goes bad.

Unemployment is an odd concept in an economy where for so many folks it’s necessary to work multiple jobs just to get by. Loose one and you’re counted as employed but suddenly don’t have enough money to live.
The economy is grappling with uncertainties, global fluctuations, and pandemic aftermath, causing instability. Rising inflation, sluggish growth, and trade disruptions need urgent attention from all sectors to restore stability and stimulate growth.
Things are strange right now. The US dollar is becoming less valuable because of inflation, but it's getting stronger compared to other currencies and things like gold and property. People are turning to the dollar because they think it's safer. I'm worried about my retirement savings of about $420,000 losing value because of high inflation. Where else can we keep our money?
Due to my demanding job, I lack the time to thoroughly assess my investments and analyze individual stocks. Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. This strategy has allowed me to navigate the financial landscape successfully, making informed decisions on when to buy and sell. Perhaps you should consider a similar approach.
I'm intrigued by this. I've searched for financial advisors online but it's kind of hard to get in touch with one. Okay if I ask you for a recommendation?
Finding financial advisors like Jessica Lee Horst who can assist you shape your portfolio would be a very creative option. There will be difficult times ahead, and prudent personal money management will be essential to navigating them.

"What kind of salary do you expect from this position?" I don't know. You tell me! I'm not going to lowball myself or take myself out of the market because you can't figure out what your project budget is. Tell me the pay/salary amount and the market will decide how appropriate that salary is for the work given. No one is going to waste their time applying if you require a master's degree and will only pay slightly more than minimum wage.
They know what their budget is. They're just hoping you say something lower so they can hire you at that price. If their budget for the position is 60-70k, but you offer to do it as 50k, they'll hire you at 50k.

When I told the HR person my number, she said ‘oh the company budgeted for 15k less for this position, are you still interested’? I said yes, to see where it would go. One hour later got an email saying I wouldn’t be moving forward in the application process but to keep checking back on open positions. Someone should compile a list of crappy things HR is going to put you through so you know how to play the game. I thought I knew, but not in this new hiring scheme post covid
On the flip side, back in 2021, I was looking for a project manager and out of 10 qualified candidates I invited to meet me for an interview, only 4 out of 10 showed up. If you target job posters, by the same extension, you can target applicants. No shortage of people just spamming their resumes meanwhile they already have a job and they're just seeing what's available.
@@BobTheBob647Considering the dangers of leaving a job without finding another one, I don't think that's a valide comparaison. You're in a weak position when you want to change your job. Even if your applicants don't show up, you're still in the strong position.
People ignore the darker side of it... employers know that when an employee sees THEIR job posted , they are less likely to complain, take time off, etc... Especially in smaller companies.
Pro tip. Accept the meeting and or interview but don’t show up. That way they waste their time shifting around schedules for you. Really make them waste their time with more than a reach out email or call
That’s if the applicant is even alive anymore, seeing as how everything in this bum ass country is expensive for no reason, and they want to mask it as “inflation”
Also in Texas, Panda Express and McAllister’s. Frequently post General Manager positions, leave the postings up for years even on their home website, when gone in for an interview get told that there is no position open. Don’t know if it’s company wide or what.
The tinder example is interesting because when someone is on tinder while they are in a relationship, that means they are cheating on their partner - very shady behavior
The application processes are extremely lengthy and energy consuming. Being online and uploading a resume doesn’t make it cheap and easy for applicants. It’s disrespectful of employers to put fake jobs up that waste our time
You know whats annoying too, all the ignorance from old people and people with jobs because its easy to call it laziness or lack of effort when you already got lucky

It should be illegal for companies to collect, data store, anyone's personal information without their approval. When submitting a resume, be as generic as you can be, require in person meeting before disclosing any details of your resume.
Problem is, employers are never under any obligation to give potential employees the time of day. You don’t jump through every little hoop they set up, you aren’t even getting considered. Of course, you can also jump through every last hoop and STILL not be considered. Must make them feel very smart and strong… 😑
We need to pass legislation that makes ghost job postings illegal and that forces companies to respond to applications within a specific, reasonable time frame
It's so ridiculous because the solution is so easy. I remember one company I saw that had job postings, but also had an option at the bottom. It said something like "Don't see a job you like but still interested? Drop your resume here and we'll reach out to you if anything opens up that would be a good fit!" That's all they have to do! Just be transparent. Trust me, people will still willingly drop in their resume to a non-job offer. You don't have to waste everyone's time with fake postings
Don’t forget the job description is 10 different jobs. How “flexable” receptionist, accountant, personal assistant, project manager, project assistant, file clerk, marketing assstant, graphic designer, communications, superstar!🤪 That’s when you realize they slashed at least nine jobs and expect you to be a 10 trick pony working for peanuts. People come and go so quickly because the business is a con, they just leave the posting up for years!🤑
Don't forget multiple languages, master degree, a background check going back to elementary school and a 800 credit score. Hiring for entry level is just that ridiculous now days.

It's a horrible job market right now, I'm an unemployment and careers RUclips channel and from reading comments and talking to people in real life, struggle is real and fake job postings should be illegal.
@michaellong2439 to add to what you said, I think that the requirements for the "right candidate" are way stricter than they were 25 years ago. Back then, if there were 10 things a company wanted you to have, having 4-6 were good enough, and they'd train you on the rest. Now, they want you to have pretty much all 10 because dedicated training departments pretty much don't exist anymore.
I have been unemployed for a year, this has been by far the most challenging and frustrating time of my life. ghost jobs are real, even in all these big companies. something is definitely wrong with the US economy and this is a very bad signal as the data they are parroting about a strong and robust economy cannot be trusted.
I'm in the same boat as you. I was laid off last year and can't find a job for over a year now. I've been through countless interviews only to get ghosted then see the same job get reposted. I've seen some jobs reposted repeatedly from the time I started job hunting. The recruiters sometimes email me about their new opening and then I ask them if they have any follow up after the last few interviews. They basically forgotten that I already had an interview or more for that position. The unprofessionalism employers have these days just make me want to give up and stop trying.
I'm in the same boat unemployed from last 1 year. Applied to more than 2000+ jobs couple of interview calls and then no reply from their side. Very horrible time in my life feeling like loser.
Why anyone would defend this terrible practice is crazy!! this is why your nephews/sons are struggling hard. I applied to 41 jobs in a month and ONLY 2 CALL BACKS. and I applied to warehousing jobs when I have YEARS of great experience. these employers are entitled asf.
Collecting your data at the cost of being picky, which makes you vulnerable, trading your most personal information only to be overlooked for selfish reasons, This needs to end
I think these job posting companies should implement a policy where, if a company is found to have posted any (ANY) ghost jobs, they'll have a little red flag next to their profile for the next 3 months that indicates, "This company posts fake jobs. Your application is unlikely to be read by a real person." And then giving different companies "authenticity ratings," where each fake job posting significantly pulls down the company's authenticity rating. Then applicants can just filter out the companies that post ghost jobs, and the companies doing this get penalized across the board and stop doing it. If all of your real postings are treated as if they're fake, suddenly you're getting no applications at all, or else only getting them from the worst applicants.
When I was looking for a better job during the pandemic, I applied to over 20 places. Only one ever called back ( I work there now) Years later, I had some of those ghosting employers call me asking if I was still looking and/or made me laughable offers. You going to wait 2 years after I applied to call me, you better have one heck of a solid offer!
This is true.
If it has been over 6 months, you are cooked, buddy
100% accurate. There's several jobs in my area that seemingly repost these jobs over and over and have absolutely no intention of filling the positions. for years i've seen the same ad over and over. I'm more than qualified for the position, applied several dozen times over the years and never ever see the positions filled or the listing removed.
Someone is going to retaliate someday
I applied to several hundred jobs last year after being laid off and it still took 7 months for me to land a new one. Despite reports that the economy is supposedly okay, this job market is a dystopian nightmare.
Yes it is!
The job market was full of minimum wage positions: fast food employees, delivery employees, ... White collar jobs were scarce.
If LinkedIn could just put a flag next to jobs that are suspected as ghost jobs.
they're not interested in that, plus, removing posts that are the biggest reason for their existence? not gonna happen, linkedin is a shitfest itself
LinkedIn is a joke. Little more than Facebook for so-called "professionals" It offers no value whatsoever.
As long as the fee is still being received they don't care.
I remember that. In hospitals, they are obligated to post job openings publicly but they hire only already known ppl through someone. Others, come for a fake interview with no intention to hire.
Yup
yup this happens in all industries. most times they have someone in mind already but go through the motions of waiting people's time.

Murder and theft are illegal, yet they still happen frequently.
In some countries in Europe is actually illegal. It should be illegal everywhere in the world.
It is illegal.. people are using American techs to bypasses it.... so.. the whole "social media" thing is a bit of a nonsense.

It's like having a job is a privilege.
Right there with you. I’ve never been afraid that I wouldn’t be hired before.
Exactly ive been experiencing the same thing past year. Last time its not the same. Been really difficult for me these days
Good luck!😊
Did you just see last week that the official 'new jobs created' number was revised DOWN over 800,000 jobs for the past year?
From the time of my layoff with my last job to the start date of my current job and entire year had passed. I spent a whole year sending in applications and doing interviews. I know in that time I had sent over 1000 applications, easily. In the end I got two offers at the same time, strangely enough. But again, that was after a year of struggling. And I have advanced degrees. Overtime you can see the ghost jobs popping over again and again. It's so frustrating. But you're right, my interviews ALWAYS started with a "screen call" or a "phone interview" first.

Only issue is whether these companies will sue you for defamation, since it is a public forum.
@@fresred Then screenshot it, archive the online link using an online archive site, and share the original link with the archived link. I'd like to see them try to sue you then.
@@emm753 It's not about archiving a link. It's about big companies having deep pockets and willing to bring a public forum down with drawn out litigation. Do you think an average man on the street can afford legal fees for a case that stretches years? Most of the time, people would just let the big companies win.
Currently a new graduate with an engineering degree and its so hard to find a job if you don't have 10+ years of experience in a niche field
My advice. Read the skills required, if you have those skills, then just apply. Worst that happens is they say no and have your resume on file.
Not to be the doombringer but even people with 10/15/20+ years in can't get hired either
Verified job postings are the future! No more "ghost jobs" or phishing via job postings.
Great topic. The phrase ghost jobs can be difficult to define...and the ramifications can extend well beyond frustrating job seekers.
It's a horrible job market right now, I'm an unemployment and careers RUclips channel and from reading comments and talking to people in real life, struggle is real and fake job postings should be illegal.
Wealthy corporations control the rules, not you.
It’s been like this for years now. The media just finally decided to stop gaslighting all recent grads.
😂😂😂it is bad? You didn’t get chance to try financial crisis. 😂😂😂
Starting to think some of the companies are not real either lol
It's not only in the US it's actually everywhere even in Europe (Germany).
Just be rich. And if you can't do that, then become wealthy. Then, you'll win! 💪😎✌️
@@Novastar.SaberCombat the question is how??
I'm in the same boat unemployed from last 1 year.
Applied to more than 2000+ jobs couple of interview calls and then no reply from their side.
Very horrible time in my life feeling like loser.
Why anyone would defend this terrible practice is crazy!! this is why your nephews/sons are struggling hard. I applied to 41 jobs in a month and ONLY 2 CALL BACKS. and I applied to warehousing jobs when I have YEARS of great experience. these employers are entitled asf.
This isnt even mentioning all the job posting that are SCAMS trying to get your information..... Its insane trying to find work in modern times.....
If you ran for office I'd vote for you

When I was looking for a better job during the pandemic, I applied to over 20 places. Only one ever called back ( I work there now)
Years later, I had some of those ghosting employers call me asking if I was still looking and/or made me laughable offers. You going to wait 2 years after I applied to call me, you better have one heck of a solid offer!
Scams, they sent you links to input sensitive information, and then you start receiving scam calls.
