This story fascinates me. I don't believe he was crazy or even unstable. I think a lot of us have wanted to just, one day, fly away into that wild blue yonder. Wish you would have landed, buddy. You were a pretty damned good pilot, Beebo - if only for an hour or so. Just hope you've found some peace and happiness on the other side.
People always say “nothing was off”, “they were completely normal and fine that day” and things like that but I have definitely been able to keep my family safe on days when I was thinking or planning of the opposite for myself. It’s usually the people who try to make others happy that are hurting the most.
I thought he sounded scared in the end. In the beginning he says something about wanting to "sack the joint, good thing I didn't " - but the transcription doesn't show what I heard - so there was definitely something that broke this beautiful camel's back......
He was more nauseous I think. He stated that he threw up a few times. Most likely from the G's he experienced from the roll. It sounds like he was trying to keep his stomach down. Just my thoughts. ✌

I have to say I never heard of this story until recently (week or so ago). It's mid July 2022 and I've heard the ATC recordings and the live chatter when it happened and he just jumped in line to take off. Of all the videos and recordings I had the same assessment of this guy. Richard seemed like a humorous guy, but you could definitely hear the dark tones but you'd never probably think that someone would kill themselves. We all have our demons. We all try and deal with it their own way. He didn't just have a beautiful life with a happy marriage and job etc. I would like to challenge the notion he just got up one day and then did this. He definitely planned it. He also trained himself as the guy says. So I'd like to think he was walling up and was focused on the task at hand. It's scary to think anyone could or would do this. Someone you know may be having issues. It's so much better to look like an @ss asking that person if they need help. Rather than just live knowing you missed the signs. Suicide is not a option, please seek help if you are seriously depressed. And don't give up. You will find someone who can and will be there for you. Just maybe not in the timeline you think. Just hold on a bit longer and then the rest will hopefully fall into place
RIP Richard you flew that thing like no one ever has. Your true legend and have hopefully opened the eyes to mental heath bearing many different faces and I understand your struggle. RIP Captain Richard Russell, and your a Legend in my eyes.

The truth is that none of us can be bothered with other people's problems, and it's kinda a lose-lose anyways...if my family reached out to me and coddled me it would make me feel even shittier about who i am so there's not a lot you can do...people either love being around you or they don't, them faking it doesn't help.
He probably found out his wife was cheating on him
He lived more in that 1 hour than most people do in a lifetime. God bless you Richard
I just watched the ABC news reel about this and commented about what I heard in his voice. The acceptance and the liberation and freedom that came from acceptance. I cannot imagine how painful this must have been for this brother and his family. And like he said the way his brother sounded must make it hurt that much worse knowing his brother was suffering so much and he didn’t know.
he didn't kill himself; he paid the price for just a few moments of freedom.
Nah he killed himself
Oh yea? He didn’t huh?

SKY KING RIP.
This is the single most legendary thing ive ever heard of. It was literal art. Not for any of the right reasons.. But this was one of a kind
Mathias Rust.....flew to downtown Moscow and landed. Only one close.
Yeah technically speaking, it was almost miraculous he was able to accomplish all that he did with that airplane with only video game experience.
Most people call him an inspiration, a hero, sky king. I wonder if they'd still have that perception of him had he crashed into homes full of families...
@@blakjack3053 if superman was a living turd would you still like him? Well he's not a turd, your argument is weaksauce bs and this dude is the Sky King!
@@blakjack3053 Late reply, I doubt they would see him as such if he crashed in to homes of families. But considering he was smart enough to learn how to fly the plane and do tricks in it I'm sure he also planned where he would end it, hence a remote island.
This story fascinates me. I don't believe he was crazy or even unstable. To be able to methodically learn how to fly via simulator, then to plan intricate maneuvers.. it takes a presence of mind that few people have. It's clear to me that he knew it would be his last day. He knew it, meticulously planned it, and was ready.
The fbi didn't even find any flight simulators on his computer
yea but why…
Sorry you lost your brother. We'll all miss him even though we knew him only through his deeds.
We love you sky king... Rest in power brother

He didn't go to die, he went to live. Godspeed, Skyking. You soar with the angels.
For not being a pilot, he pulled off some amazing feats w that equipment. A flight simulator can do some, but feeling the g’s and executing those maneuvers can’t be done on a simulator.
makes yea realize he was a man born to ride and die in the sky. Rest in peace SkyKing.
Such a sad loss, RIP bro
It's good bro, my dad took his own life when I was 21, there was not a single sign he was going to do it. Some people you really can't help.
Don't feel sad about him. he died being happy. He lived. He was more alive than he was before.
Hindsight is always 20/20, but there really are no warning signs. I’ve lost a first cousin and a daughter in the same manner. Neither could have been predicted. From what I hear on the audio, Beebo was one hell of a guy. He was one of us, a working man with faith who loved his family. I’ll never forget his name.
He honestly looked like such a chill and nice dude to know. So sad that that kind of person felt that way inside.
But straight up Richard Russell will always be a badass in my mind. He took multimillion dollar property from the company who took his life. I call that a win
He broke his chains and flew free. RIP
I guess so

People suffer in silence. Reach out to your loved ones even if they don’t seem off, it can safe a life.
If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you give him, you give him (ah no no no no)...
I'm suffering rn and nobody knows. The kind of depression that makes you just lay in one spot and not want to do anything bc there's almost nothing that can be done due to resistance all around. Sky king is my new hero 👑✈️
he was calm and confident because he knew what he was going to achieve...unlike this unpredictable thing we call life.

This made me want to live. Thank you ❤😢
I thought he sounded scared in the end. In the beginning he says something about wanting to "sack the joint, good thing I didn't " - but the transcription doesn't show what I heard - so there was definitely something that broke this beautiful camel's back......

@@TheCort1971 I’m agreeing with him though. I don’t think what that guy did was courageous he was just so mentally disturbed he made a crazy decision. He even said he wasn’t all there. He just snapped. It’s more so just unfortunate than Heroic. You don’t call things like this heroic because other mentally disturbed people may be more willing to do the same thing and it may end worse. It’s irresponsible to say it’s heroic.
To understand why he sounded as he did. He accepted what he was doing. Its a feeling of peace. One of the signs after being sad inside is that happiness and that change.... Is what you have to watch.... Its the same as a person on hospice and they get that burst of energy all the sudden.

*hopefully
