I prefer wooded camping and I live in Kentucky, but the desert offers a different kind of beauty that I also greatly enjoy! Just when I was wondering if you had any beer, out came the beer, awesome way to enjoy the sunset! Cooking over the fire I couldn’t help notice you had enough food for me too! Nothing better than camping and cooking over a nice fire! Very neat out there, so much to explore and enjoy. Great video, I’ll be watching!
I also prefer camping in the mountains. Here in New Mexico our forest roads close for winter so it leaves the desert as an open target to get outside for a overnight. Growing up in New Mexico we have 2 opposites. We have low elevation desert as you see here and high elevation mountains above 13,000ft. So we are pretty fortunate to experience cactus, big pine trees, and above tree line. I encourage you to watch my Pecos Wilderness series. I made way to much food and it would have been awesome to have someone with me to enjoy a beer and steak with peppers. Man it was a fun trip despite the cow terds lol! But I guess it's all part of the adventure lol. Being in the desert the pickings are slim to find a tree with firewood and this was about the only one I can find. I love drone flying! Give such a different perspective to your surroundings. Thanks for watching bro.
@@ManzanoManATVAdventures We are planning to go out to the same area in your video and maybe even make our way up around Gordy's Hill area too. We have never been out to these areas. To your knowledge, are we good to pull our trucks and trailers to make camp anywhere along the Quebrada trail legally? We want to be off the trail a little way obviously, to have a little camp privacy away from folks but it's just hard to tell what we can do and can't do from what we see on the internet. Not sure if we had to contact the BLM office for permission. We are all bringing Polaris Sportsman ATVs like you have. Our trip is planned for end of March. Thank you so much!
@@chriscampbell3502 There is a lot of land that is public and you can camp anywhere without asking BLM. I don't see there being a problem taking a truck and trailer to go camping. I don't have a whole lot of camping experience in this area other than the area I was at in the video. My only experience is by ATV and there is great camping along the main arroyo wash at Gordy Hills in and around these coordinates: 34.139595, -106.817336. The trouble to get here is its Jeep and ATV country. I have seen people camp near the staging area for Gordy hills and if I remember right you can find yourself getting pretty far up the wash for good camping. Another spot I can think of for camping is in and these coordinates: 34.023186, -106.766759. There are some side roads that take you in a little ways. There is plenty of trail riding on ATV. I was hoping to get back in here to do some camping before the summer hits. I am not sure I can make it out here. I hope this helps out. Enjoy your time out there.
I've just started to watch some of these desert camping trips. Being from eastern Canada it's so totally alien to me. I can hardly imagine what it's like. Funny thing is I seem to keep running into videos of people out there getting caught in the rain. I beginning to think either the desert isn't that dry, or it's such a treat for you guys that you all purposely go out and film yourselves when it does. 🙂 As for those ranches? Wow, what a tough life that must have been! Again, up here there certainly are some serious difficulties to surviving too, but just to get water?! Or how to grow food? No idea how they did it. Must have been tough.
I can relate to the same feeling you are describing, I have been watching some RUclips videos of Canada beauty and I am in awe how beautiful it is up there. For the most part the desert is dry and during the Monsoon season we can see more frequent rain which can cause flash flooding. I went out during a wet spell that was giving us reliable moisture. I knew the chances were high for rain, but I was anticipating the rain to be short lived. Which is how they usually are. That wasn't the case for this storm unfortunately. The old ranch homesteads are such a neat thing to come up to. There is a lot of them in New Mexico and I enjoy finding them. I agree the life would have been challenging. I have no clue how they made life sustainable as far as food and water. It would have been an interesting lifestyle. Thanks for watching and I am glad you enjoyed the desert scene. It is beautiful and it never gets old. I often tell people the state I live in we get both opposites. We have the desert low elevation and in the northern part of New Mexico we can climb up to the highest point which is 13,131ft. Take care!
ManzanoMan Adventure It can be breath taking up here. Like really, something that can change your mood, how you feel, right into your soul. But at the same time, at certain times of the year, swarms of Mosquitos that attack at night, in the shade, and black flies which are tiny little things, and they bite with punchers so you bleed a little, and they can come in clouds. Then the deer flies, no seeums in some places. Then we can get much hotter than you think in summer, and so cold in winter that frost bite or hypothermia can be a real danger if you're far from shelter......so sometimes it is .....well, tough to love. The biting insects are worst in spring, from may to June or July, then they aren't too bad. There is a channel called Norther Scavenger, and they're doing a trip across part of Quebec, and Labrador. Really worth the watch. Some a,axing scenery that almost no one has ever seen before, and a good example of how bad the bugs can get in some places. They have a bunch of other stuff too. Explore The Backcountry is a good canoeing channel BadkCountry Angler has done some good canoe fishing trips. The last two are mostly from Ontario, and do most trips north of Lake Superior. Jim Baird did a trip on foot across Baffin Island. Really spectacular. I don't know much about out east, but obviously in the Rockies is something extra special too. Have fun camping, and don't get caught by any ban dittos!
Looked like a great trip. Not sure what you use to navigate out there but you really have those trails dialed down. Nice timelapse and drone footage. Thanks for sharing
It was a great trip Jonnie! I don't have a navigation system yet. What I did was google earth the area and made lots of mental notes. I came out this way last year and didn't know much about the place and still don't. Off road trails are everywhere back there. The timelapse and drone footage did come out pretty cool. Thanks for watching and your support. Have a great day friend.

Hi Rueben. Great video man! I’m getting ready to retire and one of my dreams is to go exploring and camping in New Mexico and Arizona on my atv. So greetings from Minnesota buddy! Thanks for sharing!
Hey there. That is a great retirement plan to go explore New Mexico and Arizona on your ATV. There is a lot of beautiful places to ride and enjoy. There is a guy by the name of Philip Arizona Kid and he is beginning a channel about Arizona ATV riding. I am sure you might learn some things from him also if you’re interested. Thanks for watching buddy and I am glad you enjoyed. Take care.
I got to tell you Guy you’re exactly right about the retirement that’s the thing I did to I haven’t got out to his neck of the woods yet But I love the way you think nice job . Except for your camping choices ... dude Next time I can see your wife giving you something that says something else on that blanket
It was a fun ride. My camp spot was trampled by the cows a little bit, but I made it work. One thing about New Mexico is cows are everywhere in the primitive outdoors. I am happy to have been able to fly over to get a view of the homestead. You used to be able to drive through the gate. But the closed it for unknown reasons. Most likely to homestead and maybe new findings. Dinner was pretty good! I will have to do some more cast iron cooking in the future. Thanks for watching and all your support. Have a great day!
looks like a fun time. only one thing I would add you really should ride with someone buddy accidents happen and your all alone out there would not be good. When we ride always at lest two of us. And like Quaddingsous said use your racks safer that way. other than that outstanding video keep them coming big guy.
I learned a lot about managing weight and how to distribute it evenly and the next one I go on I am going to go with the needed changes. The ride wasn't to off balance, it was the cargo crate that kept bumping when I went over uneven terrain. But the next trip will be much difference. I understand the safety issue. It is better to ride in twos in case of accidents or trouble. This trip was spare of the moment go. Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate you watching!
Ain't nothing like cracking a beer by the fire... you looked relaxed! I'm a little late but great video man. Fantastic job composing your shots for editing.
Hey buddy. I am glad you enjoyed the video. This is a cool place to come explore and do some camping. I’ll have to hit it before summer comes. This place gets hot as heck in the summer since it’s the desert part of New Mexico. Take care bud.
Like you channel! I was thinking about building a trailer hitch carrier. I was going to raise it up closer to the center of the quad. Looks like you got a lot of stuff on that. I seem to over pack like a woman when I camp. Lol. Great video.
Hey buddy. Thanks for dropping by. I was hoping to have a hitch carrier workout for my trips. Turns out I wasn’t a fan of it at all due the the excessive weight on the rear. So I manage to make it work using the racks. But I hear ya man. I always over pack or seem to forget something lol. I’ll be checking out your channel this week sometime. I love watching outdoor videos. Enjoy your weekend bud.
@ManzanoMan Adventure there might be a thing or 2 you will like on my channel. I miss the desert. I used to drive truck. Went through New Mexico and Arizona many times. I'll never forget a lightning storm I watched in Phoenix. It was amazing!! I sat on the roof of my truck and watched it.
Hey there! You are right, rain is part of the fun and makes it more adventurous. I'll definitely get in here this winter for a camping trip. Thanks for watching bud. Have a great day!
It is a lot of fun going on solo trips. Prior to heading out I plan my route and let my wife know my route. I have thought about break downs or flats happening. I am hoping this never happens. Along the way I do have cell service in select spots. I keep a mental note of where at so if I am in a situation I can at least hike to that point. Thanks for watching.
@@mikequyl8754 I rode for my first time up in the San Mateo Mountains in the Mount Withington area. It was awesome up that direction. I hope to plan another solo trip on the ATV soon. I am in the process of moving so it might take a few weeks to get settled before my next one pops up. That is a sweet unit to hunt in also.
Way cool buddy! That desert was beautiful! Although, I'm not sure I would have stayed in that spot you picked; it looked like a littler box for cattle - LOL You cracked me up right off the bat with that carrier on the back of your quad and your front end stickin' up in the air. Why didn't you just strap everything to your racks without using the storage containers? Or strap the biggest container on your back rack for all your small stuff; with the tent, sleeping bag, chair, etc. strapped to the front rack. You definitely needed to balance that weight out. I love your ball cap. I want one too. WOW, that homestead with the rock walls was super cool! Loved the beer can info - HAHAHA!!! When thinking about the phrase "Camping in the New Mexico Desert", I don't associate it with rain - LOL Looked like an interesting (good) experience! Thanx for sharin'!
Quaddingsous That spot I camped in used to be a sweet spot. The cows took over big time lol. I thought about moving along to another spot but my pickings were slim. Oh yeah lol. Trust me I learned from this trip to balance the quad and make some needed adjustments lol. Thanks for the tips 👍. It was a great trip and that beer can quote is funny! The crazy thing about the desert is when monsoon season hits us the rains can be hard. But mostly we are a dry state. I will look for a hat for you buddy and send you one. That type is no longer in stores, but there is a similar one that is a different camp design. I’ll have to send you a picture when I make it to that store on Facebook. Thanks for watching buddy.
I hope you get a chance to experience ATV camping. It is so much fun! I have not put together a video on my preparations, but I will have to make this a video. I have many request for it. Thanks for watching!
I am glad I can bring the desert to you buddy. Desert camping is pretty awesome. That is cool you spent a lot of time in the Magdalena mountain range. I would like to head up there this year and shot a video. Maybe do a quick and easy overnight backpacking trip up at the top somewhere. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day!
Great Content sir- Can you do a video showing off your tents supplies ETC , like getting ready to travel? I am wanting to start doing this looking for tips tricks equipment etc?
Making a video like this is actually on my to do list. I've been asked many times if I can make a video on my gear load out. Stay tuned for a video to come. Thanks for watching!
I’ll tell you man, that beer and fajitas were pretty damn good. I know the feeling on watching food being cooked up. Cheers 🍻. Thanks for watching bro.
Now this is a really good video and I really appreciate this video I just found you here today..... So what was it that you cooked over the fireyeah this is really a good video for me to watch and how far did you have to travel from your home to way you ended up getting on your ATV... how many miles did you have to travel and how long did it take you I'm from Maine so I don't have any idea the geographic situation out there
Hi and welcome to my channel. To get to the trail area for the ATV is about 1.5 hrs from my home. From the time you begin driving the ATV to get into the back section is about an hour in. It’s a super fun trail with lots of obstacles. What I cooked on the campfire is marinated steak cutlets in a fajita sauce for about 10hrs and then I added onion and bell peppers. It comes out soft and tender. I appreciate you watching and commenting. Thanks and take care.
i came across your channel and enjoyed the trip you did but would a high coverage trailer do better and take the weight of the back end, just asking. have a great day as well i will be looking at your channel
Thanks for stopping by and welcome. This was my second ATV camping trip and I quickly learned I could do without the crate. I now take smaller gear and it all fits in a storage bag on my ATV trips. Or I could also used a trailer, but the storage bag is working fine. Thanks for watching.
Just found your channel, very cool vid, couple questions.. -Why don't you have a trailer, seems you have enough stuff and trailers are pretty light. -For the camping spots, is it free range?? just find a spot and make a fire ring and you are good? -Is that BLM land? Here we have designated places we can ride.. noticed there was a 50" gate, guessing you have the same. -is it too cold for the critters to be out.. scorpions spiders and that... we have bears, cougars, etc..... where we have to tie up our food in trees so they cant get to it. going to start filming our rides this spring... show off some of our trails we have.. Cheers from Montana.
For this particular route a small trailer would probably not work due to the landscape. This is the second time I have ATV camped and I plan on making adjustments for future trips. The area I was camping in is on BLM land and is open range to camp in with no fee or pay station. It is part of the Quebradas Scenic Byway. In New Mexico there is not a whole lot of support for OHV trails. We do have areas to ride, but most riding is done on forest roads or you can create your your own trail as long as it isn't marked to keep of for vegetation growth. In the area I filmed this video is for ATVs and Jeeps so we had 50 inch crossings through fences. As for critters. In the winter time spiders, scorpions, rattlesnakes etc hibernate and are not visible. At least I have never come across them. In the summer time it is totally opposite, they are everywhere. Other wildlife to be found in the area I was in is mule deer, coyote, bobcat, gray fox, raccoon, porcupine, opossum, squirrel, cottontail, and jack rabbit. I had no concerns for this trip with wildlife being a problem. Thanks for watching and I hope I answered your questions. Good luck on beginning your riding and filming. I will subscribe to your channel to follow you.
So you went from a Sportsman to the Outlander. I did the same thing. That Sportsman looks pretty well equipped. Was there something you just didn't like?
I actually still own the Sportsman’s. I decided to buy the Can Am so my wife and I can ride together. We ride, I just don’t film these rides. I do plan on taking out the Polaris on some trips this year. But to be honest since I now own a Polaris and a Can Am that I am a big fan of Can Am. Thanks for watching.
There is very little concern for snakes in the winter time out in the desert. Probably your biggest concern would be coyotes and bobcats. Of the two, coyotes typically stay away from humans. A bobcat might get curious and close the distance on you. Thankfully in all my time in the desert I have no had an encounter, I hope not to either. Thanks for watching.
It is so much fun and a awesome change of pace from hiking, backpacking, or any other outdoor recreation. I encourage you to give it a try. I thoroughly enjoyed it and want to make it happen again. Thanks for watching buddy!
This spot was overran by cows, but about the only access to firewood in this specific location. It comes with the desert terrain that wood can be hard to come by. But the advantage of desert camping is the remote isolation you can find. Thanks for watching.
Welcome to the channel. I am glad you enjoyed watching a video on some of the open land we have in New Mexico. Kentucky is a beautiful state as well. I would love to hike in the Red River Gorge area one day. I plan on making more desert videos this coming winter. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching.
It took me a few times to get the audio right. I am using the Power Dewise lavalier mic with a dead cat mic cover for wind protection. I wish the audio of the train and coyotes would have come through. It was so cool to listen too.
Looks like great time. I also like to solo it. How do you like that hitch carrier? I have a rear rack extension and load everything on front and rear rack. I learned the hard way and now bring one gallon of gas no matter where I go, & I balance it with a gallon of water. Subbed & thx for posting
Being solo is a lot of fun! The hitch carrier worked out pretty good. It was a little low to the ground so I was hitting the ground at times, but it was manageable. I think the next time I do this I am going to even out the weight and put some weight toward the front end. I will have to remember the balance of gas and water as you mentioned. So far I have not ran into any problems using just a full tank, but I have got low at times. Thanks for the tip and subscribing to my channel. Take care.
how do you know where you're going do they have GPS for this... Cuz you're in the middle of nowhere how I mean and everything looks the same how do you know where you're going and how do you know how to get back if you're not familiar with the area
I use a phone app called GAIA GPS and it comes in very handy to navigate through the area or areas I visit. I should probably invest in an actual GPS for these adventures to be honest, but for right now the app works great. It give you the terrain and the ability to mark waypoints. So far it has not done me wrong at all.
Steve Andrusko round trip I rode about 25 miles. To get to my camp stop is about 8 miles in. The ride back there isn’t long, it’s just a slow going ride because of the rocky terrain and rapid rapid bumpy trails. It’s awesome back there and if the rain didn’t shut me down I would have rode into some cool canyons. Thanks for watching 👍.
What I did was rented a space Escondido Lake where there is a host who stays there and monitors the ground. I know what you mean by being afraid to have your vehicle broken into or something. But the lake works good. Thanks for checking it out man.

I appreciate you watching and commenting! Oh and the thumbs up! I will tell you what, this was a great meal on the campfire. It was tasty! I hope you were able to get some fajitas.
Get this@@ManzanoManATVAdventures, I drove the 70 miles to Baker City Oregon where the dealer is to pick up my Outlander. But before I stopped in I swung by a Mexican restaurant and had fajitas! You really planted that meal in my head! Ha ha!
@@Snarge22 Sounds awesome man. You got the best of both worlds. A meal and your ATV. You can't go wrong with that. I am glad you are feeling better. Have a great day!
Beautiful country man I'd love to c it
It is very cool how all the canyons and dried up stream beds have formed. What makes it even better is the opportunity to ride through it. Thanks for watching.
Lots of cow poo....LOL This looks like it is a ton of fun! ATV trips are awesome! That drone footage is sick . Fun trip man .

I love all the videos you share with us!
Hey man. Thanks for leaving me a comment. I appreciate your support and feedback. Have an awesome day.
@@ManzanoManATVAdventures thank you so much. You have been a huge help. Your videos have helped me make my decision to go out there. Thanks again!

As for those ranches?
Explore The Backcountry is a good canoeing channel
BadkCountry Angler has done some good canoe fishing trips.
Great video. Motivating me to get out in my backwoods and do the same thing.
Oh man, I hope you get a chance to get out and explore your backwoods. It’s so much fun to ride and camp. Thanks for watching!

Absolutely loved the video sir. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us.
Christine Smith thank you for your kind words. I am glad you enjoyed it. I really appreciate your feedback. Have a great evening.
Like 😊 great ride out, drone tour, camp spot - and I could almost smell your awesome dinner!
Great video. Nice channel too. Ciao from italy 👍🇮🇹👍🇮🇹👍🇮🇹👍🇮🇹👍
Thank you very much!
looks like a fun time. only one thing I would add you really should ride with someone buddy accidents happen and your all alone out there would not be good.
@@ManzanoManATVAdventures cool thanks for the reply

Hey buddy. I am glad you enjoyed the video. This is a cool place to come explore and do some camping. I’ll have to hit it before summer comes. This place gets hot as heck in the summer since it’s the desert part of New Mexico. Take care bud.
just watched this and its after midnight now im Hungry, nice trip and some good looking food hip hip!!!
Glad you enjoyed buddy. That was such a fun and awesome trip! I can still remember the steak fajitas lol. Good stuff.

Great trip big guy! Rain’s part of the fun right? Keep it rolling 👍
Hey there! You are right, rain is part of the fun and makes it more adventurous. I'll definitely get in here this winter for a camping trip. Thanks for watching bud. Have a great day!
Wow so bad ass you do this Atv riding solo . You don’t find it freaky in case of a break down unless you get cel. Service
Have you ever been out to San Mateo mountains unit 17 ? I ride out there often
Any more solo video out .
I got a good place that part private blm that I ride if need directions hard to find it. Beautiful tho
Way cool buddy! That desert was beautiful! Although, I'm not sure I would have stayed in that spot you picked; it looked like a littler box for cattle - LOL
You cracked me up right off the bat with that carrier on the back of your quad and your front end stickin' up in the air.
When thinking about the phrase "Camping in the New Mexico Desert", I don't associate it with rain - LOL
Looked like an interesting (good) experience!
You have me re-thinking quad travel. Do you have a video on trip preparation and safety tips? Great work all around and sure appreciate it.

Just found your channel, very cool vid,
couple questions..
Great video and adventure! Any concerns with snakes and other desert creatures while tent camping??
There is very little concern for snakes in the winter time out in the desert. Probably your biggest concern would be coyotes and bobcats. Of the two, coyotes typically stay away from humans. A bobcat might get curious and close the distance on you. Thankfully in all my time in the desert I have no had an encounter, I hope not to either. Thanks for watching.
Watching you drive thru the desert looked really enjoyable & made me want to try it brother haha.
It is so much fun and a awesome change of pace from hiking, backpacking, or any other outdoor recreation. I encourage you to give it a try. I thoroughly enjoyed it and want to make it happen again. Thanks for watching buddy!
Sounds like Chaco Culture. National Park would be a good video.
Chaco culture is awesome. I’ll have to check the place out to make a video one day. I love historical places.
Hey brother new to your channel awesome rides and views ..
Hey man, thanks for stopping by and watching brother.
Ruben, that was the crapiest, spot you ever picked, but I loved the adventure, ty
This spot was overran by cows, but about the only access to firewood in this specific location. It comes with the desert terrain that wood can be hard to come by. But the advantage of desert camping is the remote isolation you can find. Thanks for watching.
New to your channel loved your video. I live in Kentucky I’ve allways love your part of the country
I have to say your audio quality on an ATV is awesome! What mic are you using? Dam no audio on the train and coyotes!
It took me a few times to get the audio right. I am using the Power Dewise lavalier mic with a dead cat mic cover for wind protection.
I wish the audio of the train and coyotes would have come through. It was so cool to listen too.
@@ManzanoManATVAdventures Thanks!
What type of ATV do you use in this video??
This is a Polaris Sportsman 570.
What was your total miles, did you bring extra gas? Seems like you were driving for ever back there.
No one missed with your truck out there I’m always worried and it getting screwed with out there been there 10 k times ?
What I did was rented a space Escondido Lake where there is a host who stays there and monitors the ground. I know what you mean by being afraid to have your vehicle broken into or something. But the lake works good. Thanks for checking it out man.
@@ManzanoManATVAdventures do you pay by the day to rent the spot which is smart thank for the info .
