Another beautiful piece! My mom was a leftie. She always said that left handed people are the only ones in their right mind. Lol!
She was right 😜😜 Thanks
Yes, I think It is right... Greetings from Canary islands.
I'm a lefty so yes we are.
I have two apple trees that have been in my yard since my parents planted them in the 60's. They are in bad shape and I will be taking them down to make something for my kids who grew up eating the apples off these trees.
This post was an inspiration, as have a few others as to what I'll do with the trees, especially the smaller limbs.. I've also got a few neat cracks that I think will be awesome filled with gold inside dark blue hypershift epoxy.
Thanks, Jim.
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
@@SpragueWoodturning I'll send you pics of my "journey". I can see light through a knot in the trunk of one of the trees, and that was what caught my eye with this turn. I'm trying to find ways to use less epoxy by using "fillers". Maybe even PVC pipe and fittings.
I bought a lathe about a year ago. I thought finding wood to turn was going to be an issue for me, but just keeping an open eye and feeling comfortable to ask has kept me stocked. Many people don't know what kind of wood they have and don't really care, unless they are woodworkers themselves and even the woodworkers will share.
Yes, I’m most cases it’s easy to get turning wood either free or at a reasonable price. Thanks for watching!
I can’t ignore the irony of the color red with Apple Wood. It’s a natural combination!
Sure does! Thanks
Naming a rock. Surely Hudson. An icon who had a lot he had to hide. I hope society has grown up and that kind of forced closeting stops. Be who you are inside - you matter.
Agreed, however I’m going with Dwayne. Thanks for watching!
Wood Turning was my favorite subject in shop class. I’ve always wanted to try my hand at it again..
Thanks for watching
This bowl looks like flames in a fireplace to me. Lovely work.
Thanks for watching
Oh please! I left all my wood turning equipment in Cleveland, Oh. when I moved to Florida in 2001. You are making me really regret that! I loved doing tiny things...the size of your baby finger. Little chairs, etc. Now, watching your beautiful bowls and vases, I'm chomping at the bit to get back to it! Gorgeous work! Bravo!
Craigs list is your friend, lol. Start buying, lol. Thanks
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your videos. Here I have been looking for solid pieces of wood and missing the fact that smaller pieces can be combined to accomplish incredible work. Thank you, Jim, for all you do. You are not only an inspiration, you are an amazing instructor. R'Amen!
Thank you very much!
That is a really cool look. I did not expect it to come out that way, but it really came out neat.
Thank you very much!
Love this piece, and as a person who has really no knowledge about wood turning, I appreciate the commentary and your insights and thoughts as you work on it. I also loved that you included in the failures and unexpected challenges you met along the way.
Thank you very much!
This is going to be one of my retirement hobbies. If I'm good at it a part time business. Thank you for the educational and inspiring videos.
Best of luck! Thanks for watching!
Stunning. I love your comments about how you get wood for your projects. I am relatively new to turning but lucky for me I am already tripping over bowl blank material in the yard. In May of this year we had a tornado rip thru our little town. I was out helping the neighbourhood with my chainsaw and tree climbing skills. In many cases people just gave me the wood for helping them get the sometimes 30 inch diameter black walnut trees off of their roof or car. We have a sawmill at the house so some made it to lumber and other pieces like crotch and burls made it to the bowl blank pile. We have a pressure pot being delivered today so I cannot wait to try it out on a piece like the one you just finished. Keep up the good work. I still plan on dropping by one day to see your shop. cheers
Storm wood has been a good source for me too, just be wary of ring delimitation. Thanks for watching
This piece is really nice. I can definitely see the difference from this time period and current day.
Thanks!
Love the flare, grain, epoxy and spacing of this piece. Yet another gem.
Thanks for the lesson Jim
My pleasure! Thanks for watching
Every time I see a video I think it's the coolest. Very beautiful piece.
Thanks 😊
Wow, this is another gorgeous bowl. The pearl red is so delicious looking. Putting it with the apple pieces, then turning this. A dynamic duo. I never thought turning wood with cut off branches, that so many would use in smoking meat. I absolutely love, love this bowl. You walk us through everything. I learned to make stained glass years ago. That is cool. This is amazing. Thank you again for sharing this artistry.
Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!
Harvester operators are a good source for the most interesting pieces of wood.
I can see that. Thanks for watching
WOW, that pearl red is just the perfect color, showing the perfect amount of wood!! That was scary, jumping almost off the lathe! Such a beautiful bowl, completely happy with it’s balance! You always get those perfect finishes! Great work!
Thanks for watching Joe!
Lots of teaching moments in this video. Loved the end result. 🥰
Thanks for watching
I always look forward to your videos a true Artisan.
Thank you very much!
BEAUTIFUL! The red really highlights the grain in the wood!
Thanks 😊
Awesome bowel Jim !!! That gives you a lot of different ways to go in the future. Just Beautiful !!!
Thanks for watching
The names I came up with are guardian, heavy boy, tough, caveman, foot crusher , toe bender, and rock'n roll.
I hope you saved the pieces for a future project.
It turned out fantastic! Beautiful bowl, it will grace which ever table or shelf it sits on.
I did save the pieces and thanks for the suggestion!
A man with great skills and creativity like me. Greetings from Tenerife, Canary islands.
Thank you very much!
Name recommendation for the rock: Dwayne
That’s the one! Thanks for watching
A very nice apple, that color and that wood were born for each other dude!!!
Thanks!
Ohh, that pearl red with the apple is just stunning! Really love the patterns both from the pour and the woodgrain, and the shapes they make together. Another gorgeous project, Jim! Love your content.
Thanks for watching!
Last week or the week before I mentioned wanting to see more reds, and more red I got! Love to see it, this is absolutely beautiful.
It was all about you this week, lol. Thanks for watching
absolutely stunning... I love the contrast of the red against the apple branches...
Thanks for watching!
Another beautidul piece. I also enjoy your commentary on different subjects. Thank you!
Great! Thanks for watching!
You make my Friday’s special with your entertaining and beautiful videos. Who knew sticks could be turned into such an amazing bowl. This is definitely one of your best.
Thanks 😊
Wow! From all of your creations (i watched every single video) this is the one i like the most. Greetings from Switzerland
Thanks for watching
Absolutely beautiful piece, would look amazing in apple green too. Love from the UK 🇬🇧
Thanks
Cool idea
That is a beautiful rock; looks like a Tiger's head in texture and pattern. Wow. I like this beautiful piece of art you made. Thank you for sharing. I liked your video.
Thanks for watching!
A suggestion for people looking for wood, maybe reach out to an Amish community or those who log wood for furniture. They tend to leave a bunch of off cuts behind that they can’t use and most of the land owners especially farmer would be glad to see the “waste” taken away for them. I am currently helping a gentleman I met through a local ren faire get wood from my grandmother’s farm (Black Walnut) and in exchange for all the wood he could ever want he’s making me some goblets and he’s also said he’d make a bowl for my grandmother. He makes beautiful mugs with the bark and moss still on the outside I gifted my dad one of his mugs several years ago as a Father’s Day gift. The goblets will be wedding and Christmas gifts for my family.
Great! Thanks for sharing!
Honestly, at the end, the light shining through that made it flame!
Thanks for watching
I love how this bowl looks like a candy apple from the pearl red 💖 if you haven't done anything with the off-cuts that might be a neat project with the tumbler Ben sent
I used them in the 70K bowl. Thanks for watching!
Haha I said it looks like a candy apple too!
8:18 th coolest shot...love this so satisfying 💜
Thanks 😊
You are taking it to another level. Beautiful work
Thank you very much!
This week's project did not disappoint. I love this bowl and I love Ben Noble! ❤
I’m going to assume you know him, lol. Thanks for watching
@@SpragueWoodturning lol! I don't... I just love it when you receive gifts from viewers and yoy show us how you turn the raw materials into something so cool. 😄
This piece is just stunningly beautiful!
Thanks for watching
Ooh so wonderful. The piece of wood that's different looks like pure gold from the video.Super!!!!
Thanks 😊
Another beautiful bowl. Love the shape 😊
Thanks 😊
Thank you Ben Noble...these apple branches went into a gorgeous bowl!
Glad you like them! Thanks
Amazing piece, Jim. Kind of makes me think of wandering through a cave filled with stalactites and stalagmites and an eerie red glow in the background which you're hoping is just a mad scientist and not a huge pool of lava ready to explode.
Love your imagination, lol. Thanks for watching!
Wow! Kinda looks like a flame crown of sorts. Love it!
Thanks for watching
Wow beautiful piece. Brought me back to my youth, my grandfather had an orchard so I started turning apple. I used a treatment for green wood that worked great and have since forgotten the name any help out there would be appreciated. Thanks again Jim.
I would like to know it too, apple can be very hard to work with. Thanks
@@SpragueWoodturning hey Jim, I was searching my shop and found the name of that green wood treatment, it's called Pentacryl. It worked great for me, either treating before or after turning
Love the size and the shapes of the beautiful red. Really beautiful
Thanks for watching
I know this bowl didn't go as planned, but this was a definitely a success. And that red color is just incredible!
Thanks for watching
Wow that a beautiful bowl love to see one in walnut branches. Love the dark colors you pick.
Don’t have any and I’m not sure if you know it or not, but the branches from the walnut tree that’s the same as the ones I used are in fact whiteish in color with just a tiny black center. Thanks for watching
@@SpragueWoodturning never new that good to know
It should be named Lobster....it isn't a rock its a rock lobster. :)
A B52’s fan I see, lol. That makes the list too, thanks
OMG! I love everything about this weeks project.
Thanks for watching
LOVE, LOVE this piece, it's beautiful! Of course they are 2 of my favorite colors.
Mine too! Thanks
Awesome piece. The red pearl is awesome. Stinks you couldn't save the middle of it like you were trying. When it broke I was like darn it. Have a wonderful weekend
Thanks for watching
Beautiful piece Jim. Enjoy your instruction and commentary.
Thanks for watching
Love the bowl. Thumb down! You must be kidding. I can't imagine anyone doing that. It is interesting to see way the resin spools off for you at first and then after you give it another day to harden. Great fun watching this come together.
Thank you very much
Awesome bowl!! We have 300 apple trees so this is definitely a project we will be doing.
I guess so, lol. Thanks for watching
One of my favorites..... Love the colors and wood choice.... Dudley Do'Rock.... LOL
Lol, thanks
Got to say it again Jim … what a beauty!
Thanks!
Beautiful piece. The spalting in the limbs made the project. Look forward to the next.
Thanks for watching!
You have a great eye. That red goes really well with the apple wood. It's quite lovely.
How did you manage to view this video, it’s not posed yet?? Thanks
Interesting 🤨
I went to your RUclips site, chose "Playlists", then "Resin work". I saw that there was 61 videos listed, when previously there had been only 60, so I checked and found the Apple Branch Bowl, and watched it.
A very beautiful bowl and a good way to use branches.
Thanks!
It looks like it's on fire. Stunning.
Thank you very much!
Wow,that's just awesome Jim, love turning apple
It can be difficult to work with but I really like it too. Thanks for watching
Shape is perfect, beautiful work yet again.
Thanks for watching
I live for friday mornings!! and today did not disappoint! i would love to own this if i could... just love the design and red is my
favorite color! the way the light plays with the pearl is so beautiful! love it!!
Thanks 😊
I love this piece! I love the red around the branches.
Thanks for watching
Hi Jim I would like to thank you for such a great presentation and inside, you have inspired me to start wood turning 3 month ago,
Awesome! Thanks for watching
Fantastische Arbeit, wie ich das von Dir gewohnt bin 🤗 Sieht wieder klasse aus👏
Thanks!
Oh my God!!!! It's really amazing!!! How do you always manage to leave me open-mouthed?! It's perfect. It's beautiful. It's a joy to behold, you do a wonderful job, even though you say you didn't mean to. If this is how you fails, what will be like when u does something wonderful? Nop. You are an artist, not a craftsman. That attention to detail, being able to impress the one who sees your work is only achieved by artists. Bravo.
Thank you so much 😀, I really appreciate it!
Once again, as always great bowl. I love how you change it up every so often. Haven’t seen you use this shape before.
It’s mainly because of the branches. It’s a good fitting form for them. Thanks
@@SpragueWoodturning have you ever thought about expanding foam as a filler for some of your larger pieces? Use that instead of rice in a bag. Not sure if it would work, it might melt while curing, have you ever tried it?
Jim awesome bowl. Just stunning I can see why your in love with this piece.
Thanks for watching
This has got to be one of my favorite ones now.
Thanks 😊
Like flames between the wood! So pretty, and a little different than the usual burl. Love it Jim!
Thanks!
That is breathtakingly beautiful!!
Thank you very much!
Very, very cool. A beautiful piece again.
Thanks 😊
Your channel has been very inspirational to me. I. Recently bought my fist industrial grade lathe bandsaw. Picked up a pressure pop, designer epoxy, vacuum chamber. Waiting on my chuck. Thanks!
Welcome to the addiction, lol. Thanks for watching!
I watch every chance I get. You have great instructions and tools you need. Thank you!
Another great bowl, the red surprised me when it was finished I thought it might too dark . great work Jim.
Thanks for watching
Verry nice, the resin is fantastic, and iI do like
the new shape very very nice. Bravo Jim
😍🤗
Thanks 😊
Might just be one of my favorites. Nice job Jim!
Awesome! Thanks for watching
Beautiful bowl! When I type in (beautiful) my IPad automatically brings up (bowl) as the next possible word choice.😂 I’m pretty sure.. that’s entirely because of your channel! I’m going to have to start commenting.. ‘Gorgeous round hollow object’ just so I’m not sooo predictable!😆 Great job Jim!
Lol, thanks!
This bowl is another beautiful example of your fine work! When lit from within, it looks like red candles with tips of yellow flames. Congratulations on a job well done!
Thank you very much!
It almost looks like it's on fire. This is my favorite time date!
Thank you very much!
You are really an inspiration, thank you for advising me and the other viewers along your journey. Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Absolutely gorgeous every one of your videos I learn something new

Beautiful work. Can't imagine cleaning up afterwards. But the product is well worth it. 😍 🥰 😍
Thanks!
I think that’s my new favorite piece 👍🏻 Thank you for a wonderful video
Thanks for watching
I'm really impressed with the luster and contrast of color and tinting of the wood work.
Thank you very much!
Outstanding as usual Jim. Master of the craft.
Thanks for watching
Really enjoyed this one. You hit that one out of the park...or rink!
Lol, thanks for watching!
I’ve spent several hours going through your videos and I am fascinated.
Thank you very much!
Always love hearing different options to get these woods you work with. In Tennessee it’s hard to get nice woods for free.
Really? Isn’t there lots of walnut and cherry there? Thanks for watching
I saw the thumbnail to this ages ago and thought it was so pleasing to look at that I would "save it" as a treat to myself. It seriously did not disappoint - such a beautiful piece. Incredible colour choice for those apple branches and almost a fairytale like feel with the shape you've worked it into. Just beautiful. I will definitely be giving this one another watch or two just to experience it
Wow! Thanks so much!
Good evening, Jim.
Excellent design. I can see why you like the way it came out. Great answers regarding how to source wood for turning. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Lovely bowl. I love the hourglass shapes created in the branches and resin on the side of the bowl.
Thanks 😊
I find what you do so fascinating and the product so beautiful. That has to be a God given gift t be able to learn and do such work.
Thank you so much!
GREAT JOB. This is a beautiful piece because of some superior creative thinking on your part.
Thanks for watching
Apple wood and red are a perfect combination. That bowl just glows!
