I still remember how this song made me feel the first time I started up PS3 as a kid in my Sega Genesis. It's a song of an ancient, desperate, forlorn struggle drifting unknown through the cold wastes of space but there is still one last thread of hope that's story is about to begin.
The legends of Landen, your homeland, tell of world-sweeping wars fought 1,000 years ago. Brave Orakio sought to foil the evil schemes of the dark witch Laya and her hordes of monsters. In the final battle, all combatants were killed, though Orakio and Laya's bodies were never found. The passageways between the Layan worlds and the Orakian worlds were sealed. In time, people forgot there were other worlds besides Landen. Two months ago, a young woman washed up on the shores of Landen. The woman remembered nothing of her life prior to waking up on the beach. This seemingly minor event sets an epic adventure in motion....
Three generations of pain, suffering, death, genocide, etc. And your fate, your father's fate, and your grandfather's fate had been planned from the very beginning... They don't make games like this anymore.
The legends of the past shape our lives and those of our children. One such legend is of a struggle that almost destroyed our world. The names of Orakio and Laya echo down through the years, still inspiring love and hatred even now, 1,000 years after their tragic deaths. Their conflict wiped out civilization and left the survivors in a world of mutated creatures and warring pockets of men. Into this shattered world you are thrust, to live or die by your sword and your wits...
I never beat any of the phantasy star classics games, but when I opened the rooms on my PC and listened the music for the first time I almost cried. Cause it reminds me of a time that never turn back again. My dream it's to play mainly the first one for master system back then. My life was very happy in childhood. I had the nes and played a lot of fun games there. But seeing some games for other systems now I wanted to play back then. Everybody talking about ps5 and scarlet it's a amazing systems but now I have a lot of problems to solve. Depression is one of them, doesn't let me up to play games like before. It's a shame.

I am in tears and I didn't even ever play the game. There's sadness and Hope at the same time. Will to fight even if a war is there since a thousand years.
I remember in Jr. high school I had a friend who played PS2 and PS3, every bit of it so he could record every song for me on casette. That took a LOT of work in 1991! At the time he was a Genesis Phantasy Star nerd and I S/NES/GB Final Fantasy nerd. Always discussed the two games and how much we liked them. But for us it was the music above all else (anyone who's played FF Legend also knows how teary-eyed FF can be). PS doesn't get enough love because it wasn't "traditional" enough in its day. Everything was DW or FF. Not fair whatsoevee. Not to mention PS being amazing as a CRPG, perhaps the absolute first. I wish they'd get Sega's ass back into this universe and do it properly with some single player RPGs. It's an amazingly unique world that everyone's forgotten. And thank you to Izuho Numata for the sound track! Only the composer for Cadash equals the same level.
I teach music. I've heard this story from several students. "I don't think I ever even played the game very much, but I used to just turn it on and let the song loop."
I used to listen to it over and over too... I still unconsciously start humming it when I'm worried about something, it's probably the song which matches my soul.
I don't know if it's only for me but most of the time I hear this kind of song I feel so at peace. It's as if I get drifted away and don't have to worry for any kind of trouble, conflict or differences. I shudder to think how the world would be without music.

God I wish I could like this game, the ear rape battle music and the awkward, imprecise battle system where you can't target specific enemies but only groups, ruins it for me.

It's a song of bittersweet evolving to victory. Kinda weird for an intro.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who reacted this way!
