One of the best boss themes ever. The emotions that ran through the player the second time this theme played made this one of the hardest-hitting fights in all my years of gaming.
Especially when that battle emphasizes the need to kill him (Chaz's mentor/mother figure and Rune's companion killed by him, Rika's first experience of death and vengeance, Gryz's town destroyed and parents killed by him and Demi being kidnapped by him)
Huh. It's a shame because in my experience I didn't feel that - I merely thought of him as a pawn. That's the beauty of individual experiences I suppose.
Monotrematic Studios alys death music got me too,I was just feeling amped and anger towards zio with this ,I wish I had wren my favorite at the time of the fight.
Totally agree! Gameplay-wise I never find Zio particularly difficult, but his battle is fantastic atmospherically, particularly for a 16-bit game. I always felt like the unique battle backdrop (with the swirling clouds of mist / smoke emanating out from Zio, and pure black space overhead) complemented the track really well too, and made the battle seem like this struggle against something awe-inspiring and otherworldly. I think part of the reason they picked that backdrop was simply that they wanted to have the head of Dark Force hang overhead when Zio uses Nightmare, and it looked better if the head could fade into black and the top, but whatever the reason, I'm really glad they gave Zio his own unique backdrop instead of just using the ones for his castle / Nurvus.
No problem, now that Dark Force and the Profound Darkness were been wiped from existence for good, Lashiec will have an eternity in hell to repent his stupidity.
This shit got me into industrial metal music and the electronic metal genre in general. As a kid this blew me away and it still does. Thanks Phantasy Star IV! Hot DAMN this song is fucking awesome.
Playing Phantasy Star IV for the first time, man I cannot believe I never played it, it's so good, and the boss fight with this theme is so epic for how early in the game you get to hear it.
The remastered 1 and 2 are Japanese only. I have no idea if the translation patch was fully completed nor if the this was a region locked system or game, though.
This was the first game that made me cry. In fact, I think it's the first game that made me feel any emotion other than a little frustrated with a difficult part or a little joy with overcoming a difficult part. This game is some of the earliest evidence that video games are an art form.
As a kid I didn't know about using the Wand because unlike Zio it's not explicitly stated. It's doable but Anothergate hit's extremely hard. Wren was the one who usually survived to revive people. Grand Cross is very effective against Lashiec though.
Oh my god, how am I just finding this out nearly 30 years later?!?! It is the only fight that still gives me problems (I've beaten the game like 15 times). I've typically just grinded to beat him. Hahaha... I'm laughing at how I feel so dumb all this time.
At the time of being young most of us had no idea the Psycho wand worked on him. I remember how Lashiec will just go off his defensive course and spam Anothergate which killed me like 50 times. That stage and boss fight gave the majority of Phantasy Star III players a problem because it was right at the point of the game where you could reach without leveling too much but then begin to have a difficult time keeping your characters alive.
@@voidtalongaming4637 In hindsight, it's genius that both Zio and Lashiec's boss fights use not only this theme, but also "The Black Blood" during the pre-fight monologue. They build up the latter fight emotionally as an echo of the first, and help clue you in to use the Wand halfway through the fight.
Well given that Zio and Lasheic are the Act Bosses it makes sense they have a unique theme to them. The 3rd Act is of course the Profound Darkness itself. Each one grows in power because Zio threatens to eventually enslave large portions of Motavia while Lasheic threatens to destroy Dezolis with an eternal blizzard and of course TPD wants to destroy Algol so we go from Regional -> Planetary -> Cosmic threat levels in a pretty solid progression of escalation.
I think it would have been awesome if they played this with the random encounter darkforce in the edge. Sort of a like you fought me phantom last time now take on the real me type deal.
Feelin' DanDy can you refresh me on what that is, I haven't played the game in 10 years and I've gotten addicted to the soundtrack no less than an hour ago and nostalgia is pouring in like a violent river.
Oh that's just me LoA, it's the word "epic" but I sometimes change it to sound like a meme word lol Btw, I'm playing this game for the first time now, catching up on some oldschool backlog. It's phenomenal! My favorite Genesis RPG so far!
Feelin' DanDy I played this on the Sega Genesis collection for xbox 360, and now I'm very upset with Microsoft cause it's been 5 years and it's still not on the backwards compatibility list. I'd buy it on pc but it's busted. I'm at the point where I think I'll just buy a genesis and phantasy star 4 on amazon.

So even after 2000+ years Lassic/Lashiec still hadn't learned his lesson: don't challenge a group of 4 or 5 people
Lol
No problem, now that Dark Force and the Profound Darkness were been wiped from existence for good, Lashiec will have an eternity in hell to repent his stupidity.
Specially an swordsman , an wizard , an gunner/big weapon and an healer 🤣

finally found it?best boss music ever!
Hardcore!
One of the best boss music tracks ever made. Oh how I wish Sega would remaster Phantasy Star 1-4 for current gen.
they have actually remastered 1 and 2 for playstation
But they cancelled 4 before completion.
We need a Classic Remake in 3D. Kinda like Pokemon. 3D but with the classic 2D RPG gameplay. I'd buy all 4 full priced each.
The remastered 1 and 2 are Japanese only. I have no idea if the translation patch was fully completed nor if the this was a region locked system or game, though.
I wish all of you begging for remasters would shut up and play the originals.
Fun reminder that Chaz is 16 out here fighting gods
Underrated boss theme right here.
Lashiec is back from the dead, and with a vengence!
It's a struggle to stay alive with his use of lightning.
But it's a struggle you can win.
I always found Anothergate to be the real killer myself. Lightning was the weaker attack.
Just use the Psyco-Wand. Negating Dark Force's power applies to anyone using his magic; which includes Zio and Lashiac.
I just grinded everyone up to a higher level to where he wasn't that hard.
@@Kohchu
Just helps after his use of "reinforce"

Zio you're theme beats any other boss song.
The fight against Trent Reznor's evil twin was intense and very personal for Chaz,Rune and company.
Zio used Black Wave!

This game is some of the earliest evidence that video games are an art form.
Vietnam flashbacks to this boss.... don't remind me.
All this talk about Lashiec, but what about my boy Zio?
For real though. He killed one of the protagonists, he is in my eyes one of the most intimidating antagonists ever.
i sucked at rpgs as a kid. The fight vs Zio had me so scared and nervous hahaha. Took me so long to beat him, good times.
Incredible OST
Unique setting
Amazing graphics and artstyle
Solid gameplay
I still don't know how the heck Sega did it.
The 80s and 90s were truly a magical time.
Zio and Lassic/Lashiec disliked this video
Yeah cuz they died with good music playing
Or kept hitting Rune for “1”
Good luck beating Lashiec without using the Psyco Wand

Such an epic boss theme. Too bad it ONLY occurs in Zio and the original PS antagonist Lashic.

Because they are the human direct servants of Dark Force, so this song emphasizes their dark connection.

The musical compositions of PhSt1-4 were always bangers. Ok, let's forget about PhSt3, lol. 😂
Now imagine if Planet Palma still existed in PS4 and we could’ve listen an 3rd music of this lol
You mean in Dezolis? Because Lashiec would’ve been the Parma version
Zio definitely picked the wrong person to kill
