- We're in the home stretch of making this Chevrolet Monza ready to race! There are specific rules for SCCA rallycross that needs to be met for each class, and I think we've finally done it! We'll cross off a few last-minute details like a "windshield", window net, and then some basic maintenance like an oil change and starter. Brakes, optional. Then, of course, we give it a little "test" to make sure all that works. Dirt track racing is my absolute favorite, whether a guy is on the roundy round, or a track. I'm really looking forward to this. How do you think it will do racing?

Bradley is a lucky lad as you are a lucky Dad. I worked with my Dad every chance i had and always learned doing things with him. He even taught me how to convert the 403 International Combine from Beans to Corn by crawling inside the combines guts with a pair of 9/16ths wrenches and remove the separator plates from a drum inside the machine. Mom had a cow when she came out to see how we were doing and she asked where I was. I yelled out I am in here taking these plates off. She thought i was stuck and would get combined up. But Dad explained he is smaller and can do a better job than i can so its OK, she still didn't like it. I think young ones need to be exposed to as much different learning as possible. Most don't know this but that's what the bottom drawer is for on a tool box is cold snacks it's so when you've had one to many and can no longer stand you can just sit down and still reach the next cold snack

Please wear a good helmet and some nomex gloves. So good to see your son helping you out. I have a teenage daughter and she is always with me everywhere. It is so important to be close to your family. I think you need a good stock fresh motor. More reliable.

Just a thought Derrick...if when you are bleeding your brakes with the plastic tubing/bottle it makes it easier if you plug one end of the flexible tube with a bolt say and put a small 15mm slit in the pipe next to it. You then immerse the end of the slit pipe into some fluid in the bottom of the container and you only have to open the valve on the caliper once to allow flow of brake fluid. When you pump the brakes the slit acts as a one way valve meaning you can do it alone. The only danger being running the master cylinder too low so you have to keep an eye on the level. handy if you don't want to strip that delicate bleed screw out. Love the channel, as an owner of older vehicles I can very much relate.
The door that goes to the wall around the 5 minute mark is my favorite thing.

I like to pour kerosene through an old motor at an oil change to flush out the dirty demons. Sometimes I add a quart to the dirty oil first and run the engine for a minute before I drain it. Once I drain it sometimes I pour more kerosene through while the plug is out to flush the pan...the old oil and kerosene mixture makes a great dirty lube for whatever squeaks and it holds off rust when ya put it on rusty things, no need to clean the rust when ya can just slather some old oily stuff on there and it’s good as new...handy stuff

I love the family helpers. It reminds me of my own young enthusiasm helping my dad fixing automatic transmissions in a room of our house.
Push the caliper piston out into a clean pan.
Then block the pedal partially applied.
Remove the caliper and take the thing to the bench and have a look.
I've saved some that I couldn't make a parts run for. Reused everything after buffing the piston with a 3m pad.
I suppose then it would put the left side to shame.

These old cars do good with high output oil pumps and modern 0-w30
Gives minimal resistance and lubricants better but it requires high flow to the cams

Next time u have to cut somethin like plexiglass or aluminum sheet use a cheep hand held jigsaw. It works. It'll come in handy. Cut off wheel creates too much heat

Another way to cut plexiglass, A guy use a circular saw 1000 and turn the blade around backards it cuts nicely.

Suggestion; Cut two vertical grooves about 2" in from the end of each brake pad and 3" on shoes for better braking. Keeping the brakes cool for increased braking distance.

For the next car use lexan instead of plexiglass, lexan can bend and take a substantial hit and not break! Love the content keep it up!!
Generic polycarbonate is much cheaper than lexan, but Plexi isn't up to the task for sure!
Count me in on the "Cold Snacks" decal, I know exactly where that is going! To that tight oil filter, I can remember my old man loosing his mind over a filter in a '76 Duster, he ended up driving a screw driver through it to get it loose!! He was pissed, LOL!!

Hilarious, had a 79 Pontiac Sunbird, same body, with the 2.5 liter Iron Duke engine, and a four speed. Was cool to see the " Durabuilt " Vega motor still in and still running. Didn't last too long, guess it was tired out. Awesome to see Jessica and Bentley helping, good family time. A Pontiac Iron Duke Carbureted engine would make a good donor replacement for that tired Vega motor, perhaps another S10 recovery might produce a good engine for future dirt track days out. Could use a custom " Craigslist " paint job, lets see what it looks like next time....
