Chevy Monza Raced to DEATH - Blown up engine! - Vice Grip Garage EP51
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 1 окт 2024
- I finally got the chevy Monza race car ready for a SCCA rally race! We were late, but we made it. What we believe vega engine has maybe just enough life left to make a few passes around the dirt track. She has enough oil pressure, but sure likes to puke it out! Get some behind the scenes views of a rally race, Plus maybe the engine blows up? I don't know, I'm pretty good at blowing stuff up. Just habit I guess.

haha how did I just stumble onto this channel? I love the way this guy talks. One of my new favorites now!
Glad to have ya! Make sure to hit the play list, there's over 50 vids and growin!
Vice Grip Garage and Zip Ties and Bias Plies are my two absolute favorite channels.
Same lol
@@jeep2nv92 Checked him Zip out, wayyy to much swearing, sounds like a nuclear reactor out of control.
Great fun. Thanks for the video. What about tossing an actual running enginator in her, move the seat back about 500 million meters and keep on taking her to the track. Also she needs a new paint dippin. Maybe something completely absurdish. Maybe purplishness or baby bottom pinklike
The thing I've learned about these kinds of events is it literally doesn't matter what you're driving or how last place you end up it's still a blast!
Exactly!!
A friend of mine got me into drag racing many years ago. I said, "Don't you need a fast car?" He said, "Nope, just safe." My first drag car was my daily driver 6-cylinder AMC Sportabout . Not fast, just fun!
Put a v8 350 in that mazda

or to start a new one
Great seeing you and Bradley hanging out, doing guy stuff. Even if I was a suppressed smile now and then. I can tell he adores his dad. Good times. Time spent with a child is never wasted.
Closed caption says “music” when you fire the Monza up...
I think the band was the 2 strokes or maybe the misfires.
🤣🤣🤣

My mom had a vega with same engine when i was a kid, we would pull up to the station and she would tell em " fill er up with oil and check the gas"
My mom had a white wagon , we had a saying around here only 2 types of vegas 1 oil leaker's and solid body,, 2 holy shit that one don't leak but look at the rust on it , don't touch it. 3 motors later and she had hardly any rust, mom wasn't good on checking the oil.
Ours had the little screw on covers for the plugs because they fouled every 500 miles. Covers got us to 600 miles. Worlds first bio degradable car!
Hahahah 😍
HA HA Tilemaniac i got me a worn out 454 and say the same thing LOL!!!!
If you ain't leakin oil, you're out of oil!
For those of us unable to do these things anymore, we can still live vicariously through you and those like you. Thank you for an enjoyable yet educational channel. As far as the Monza....What ever you do, get some still pictures of you and Bradley standing next to her. Happy new Year!
Exactly...memories of family are what lifes all about!!
The part driving through the pasture at full bore reminds me when I was a 13 year old kid learning to drive my fathers 1976 Ford Granada company car in our back pasture. The only one that would ride with me at the time was my old dog. Keep up the great content.
The stuff I did as a boy on the farm a million yrs ago with the one that would do them with me, my good ol dog...wouldn't sell those times for all the money. Get it Bill!!
At the end of your video, you mentioned what place you finished. Back in my weekend antique tractor pulling days, I would get to work on Monday, and the guys would say "what place did you finish in your weight class?" I would say, "I got a second place trophy!" Then I was asked how many tractors were in your class, I would say: "Two"! Oh, well. You can't win 'em all!
🤣🤣 exactly
Your kid is lucky to have such a cool fun dad. My dad is hard working, loving, and smart. But he never did any hobbies or anything exciting with me.
Most dont since they have to work. Just how life is.
Why don't you ask a dad? It is never too late to bond!! Good luck and Happy New Year!!
Did you miss a lot of meals??
@@robertquigley6753 Takes more than providing to make a good dad.
Just lost my dad..have tons of memories
You absolutely won !!! You took first place as a DAD. I just love watching you play with Bradley. He'll remember this for ever I promise. So you win. Happy New year
A fella can send off 2019 the right way with a cold snack and watching a guy race a car around. Happy new year!

Cheap SBC swap, do some frame strengthening and run her again......maybe some racing seats

You should be proud of your son MR. BRAD.!!

Thanks for the laughs. That looked like a lot of fun, plus some good father son bonding time at the races. Happy New Year brother.
I always let my son do shit at an early age when others said I shouldn't. He now owns an aviation mechanics business.
Great to see Father and son having fun together, it's rare enough in today's world. Happy 2020.🥳

This is by far the best channel i watch there is always a really good laugh and some serious things to learn. Keep up the great work i'm looking forward to the next video.
As for the blowing oil, I used to do the old vacuum balancing trick on my Vega, which essentially was the same engine. Plug every opening leading into the block and just go full vac with no PCV valve in it if the blow-by is severe. It cuts the oil consumption WAY down. First learned of the trick back when I had my 70 Chevelle and it was a tip in a Chevelle tip book I used to get.
Chevelle... or Chevette?... NICE!
That section of frame falling off into your arms that's just performance weight reduction don't worry about it 👍
😂😂😂
Happy New Year! Bradley makes a FINE crew chief!
good kid. wish I was smart enough to learn when I was his age.
Cold snacks and a VGG vidja = perfect way to close out the year. Happy New year y'all!
Gonna save this one for 12 a.m. and start the new year the right way
That is so awesome you can teach, be safe and funny at the same time and even have your family help
even though they do most of the work sometimes ( spark plugs & wires, change tires etc. etc)
you all are great
The force is strong in your little Vice Grip Padawan, Obi Derek Kenobi. You have tought hem well!
Just in time for watching before the new year, a guy can get like'in on that!
Happy New year 🎉🎆🎊🎇 great way to start the new year with a new VGG video. 🔨🔧

Happy New year to you & family.
What ever you do, don’t junk it. I’m sure you got an old half decent motor to chuck in it, glue the frame back together and she will be good to go again.
Can see why you put the lift kit on the truck now!!
Watching in closed captions. Everytime you shift is says " [Laughter] " LOL
😂😂😂😂
Probably the people (or AI) who are typing in the CC are lol'ing at this Monza struggling around the track
I had to go back and look.....LOL !!!
I have been watching a few weeks now and it has been fun to watch your "character" develop, keep up the good work. Oh and by the way the ones your wife is in are some of the best, to see her reaction to your comments is classic.
This right here is why I love the channel. I cant say it enough, you make mechanical stuff fun again. Thank you

4.3L Engine swap with a 5 speed and let er eat
Was thinking the same thing!!!
I agree! Junkyard S-10 donor, fix the frame and send it! Great idea!
Or... a 4.2? or a 3.7/3.5 5 cylinder from a Canyon/Colorado. Mostly because I'm pretty sure the sound would be hilarious.
As a guy that's done the "4.3 for Glory" swap in a Chevette, which is a near enough analogue for the Monza... Just go L67 Buick 3800 supercharged and call it a day. The 4.3 kind of sucks for racing, 3800, hella good.
@Dave Micolichek You're missing a few points. One, this is a negative value turd. Two, a rotted out W body GM with a 3800 can be had for $500 and under (our donor vehicle was $300). The 3800 in our Chevette put 250 to the wheels when it was last dynoed in November, before we put on a bigger throttle body and blower. Also running a slightly smaller pulley. It's pretty legit fast at this point, we run the risk of it being unreliable if we tune it up any farther. Car runs in Lemons, and while the Chevette is a budget exempted car, we're not super rich and wanted to keep it reasonable. Also, as the car sits, the weight distribution is 52% front, 48 rear. We have the motor counterbalanced with a '15 Camaro independent rear end. I'm not sure what a 350 or LSx weighs compared to our 3800, but it's probably more.
Our L67 ran for 16 hours straight of full on racing, 2 8 hour sessions, also did a 4 hour test session before that.
We killed 3 4.3s in about 7 hours of runtime before that.
4.3 = sucks for road racing. 3800? Great.
Also, for endurance racing, the SBC and LS both have a less than spectacular record on longevity. We all know they can run, but they don't like to run under G loads in turns for hours upon hours at a time.
Lots like a great fun day to have with your son creating memories.
You should chassis swap it with a 4wd Chevy chassis and go back and take out the 4wd modified class next time Haha
Love that idea!
Yup, bet that body would fit on an s10 blazer chassis about right.
I love the way Bradley keeps a straight, serious looking face as the old man goes nutzzzz
Love the show! You need a volvo! There are so many sitting in the grass for years with one small thing wrong. They are cheap and live to be run hard.
Agreed. A b230 cannot be killed.
There's a reason why so many of them are sitting in the grass with a minor issue. I ran the scale at a junkyard for three years. People were practically paying us to take them. We even fixed and resold some cars, but we didn't even check the volvos to see if they were fixable. They went straight to the crusher most of the time, because no one ever bought parts for them. They are a nightmare to work on.
Great video! And welcome to 2020!, from Montreal
9:40 LOL!! 8,000 RPM
A wise man once said "if you ain't first, you are last!" I don't care how many other cars were in your class!
The man who comes in 2nd. is the first one to LOSE!
"Igotta get a holder for my cold snack"!! HaHaHa Happy new year!
350 swap and get the setup back to dirt oval... and fix the frame. Don’t spend a crap ton of money on it, obviously!
Would like to see another video similar distance from you Chevy Mazda through.laughting out loud . If it's an Iron Duke you can have fun because blow that motor up the Vega chevy engine one fuff cook .own a few vegas . like the live live vedio this week edded from you . nice home too .
Where do you find a rally race event? I too live in MN and really wanna start doing this
check out SCCA rallycross. This is a Land 'o Lakes region event. Also a webiste motorsportreg.com has piles of car related events (including this one). This specific event happens in Pine City, MN once a month weather permitting. Also some good ones worth driving to in Iowa.
happy new year!!
You too
Lmao!! "The only car in its class" Awesome video!!
I dunno... it didn't look like it had ANY class. Love the fun and frolics!
@@odahithedubious2017 My car was the ONLY one in it's class also."Fastest Supra" it says. The track was rained out.
I’d say crush it, but if your having fun what the hell keep it for giggles...my friend had a green one and we used to call it “the monster”
He rebuilt the engine and I’m pretty sure it has cylinder sleeves that go frequently but you might get away with pulling the motor break it down and throw sleeves and rings in.food for thought... you can always let your boy learn to drive standard in your field to.
Well a guys been following your channel for about a month now. Running out of fresh videos to wrap my peepers around. I did the right thing and watched most videos out of order. Makes it more funner to re-watch on the second go round I’ll try to watch em in order 😂 thanks for the awesome content. My favorite video so far was the one with the ole combine with your boy Brad. Reminds me of busting knuckles with my old man. Keep on keepin on!
Thanks Justin
circle track races, patch the really broken parts, put in some engine restore, send it.
Great day of racing with your boy, priceless.
Put a Chevy 4.3 in it and keeper going!
Awesome looks like fun. Looked like your protege had a blast too. Best part of it. Highly enjoyed it thanks but was waiting on you to give her the beans or the onion.
I had a Monza, my first car with that same 140 inch engine. Yes it is a Vega Engine, but with a cast iron block instead of aluminum.
"Single wide here, and a shop from horizon to horizon. You da man!
Such spirit!!! If it couldn’t bring home the bread it tried to take out everybody. Rename it Thanos because that was inevitable.
🤟🤟
Man i love watching this channel. Makes me laugh and is fun to hear the "tech" lingo.
What a gay could do is drop a small block chevy in it nothing to hot maybe something with a decent size cam 4 barrel carb and headers then put a 2 speed powerslide behind it fix the frame and the seat so you can fit comfortably behind the wheel. then you can take it to a round round track or a drag strip or even back to that track you just ran it on
You should keep the Monza as an antique/keepsake. You could put a new engine in the Monza.
I’ll bet 7 tacos this is my favorite RUclips channel.
I liked this before I watched it! I too will be watching at midnight with a cold snack in hand! Cheers from Oregon, and Happy New Year!
So you're waiting 3 hours to watch this? Seems kinda weird seeing as you're already here.
When you started her up-sounded like my dad going to work in the early 80’s!!!
Build it for your son to play with! Love to see Jessica Drive too ❤🙈😂🤣😁
Get the cheapest rebuild kit for the engine you can find , and weld in some angle iron for the frame then try it again .
Good kid you got. Love seeing him involved. Makes for good family living. Looked like more smiles per gallons to me.
Holy Chevy Monza I bought one of those when I was 16 years old I can't remember what it had for motor but it was pretty fast for a small car. Man what a flashback...
1st place in it's class...... A fella proud of ya. Da mighty monza
A class by itself, to be sure.
That SCCA rally in Iowa? Im looking for one closest to minnesota, it looks awesome
24 hours of lemons, that car is prefect.
Dude ..you nailed it !! Id love to see that..after the motor is rebuilt of course cause that aint making 24 hours ..but great idea!!!
“I’ll bet you six tacos...” 😂
$13.00 for a timing belt and $50.00 for a "Good" set of rings and she is ready to take on all comers in her class
Yeah, that's what i thinking. I think a guy could get more out it before she really goes pooof!!! with a set of rings and shes back in action!! I really enjoy watching these carefree videos.
@@CJ7fun-zv2hs Well,you tested on 'er good!Well done.
it is not the rings! this engine had aluminum cylinders, they wore down fast, man! to bad it is not the iron block
Just run some heavier weight diesel oil in there, should reduce the blow by.
Weld the turd back up and shoe horn in some engine that doesn't belong in there.
i agree. plus move the seat back! maybe someone can donate a four cylinder.
That looks like so much fun! You shoulda put a For Sale sign on her for an extra laugh. Great start to 2020 watching VGG!
Haha.. maybe next time!!
Good video Derek nice racing @ViceGripGarage
I’m thinking of taking my 63 Dodge Dart 170 into some racing of the dirt.

Do the right thing and put a LS in it. This is my favorite car RUclips channel.
Anyone else getting a modern day solo Red Green vibe? Love it.
Take the 305 out of that camaro because you know you dont like it anyways, put a 350 or 454 in the camaro and put 305 in the monza
Not a bad idea

I laughed so hard at this on the video lol
Gotta be honest, when I saw the "Cold Snack " logo on the fender I did check the mech to see if you had them as stickers. Looked like a lot of fun!
🤣🤣..sure was!!
Ok, so im addicted! Love watching, good humor! Been a backyarder myself since i was old enough to hand my dad the tools! My ol man had a monza with a 305, im thinking you should find one to dump in yur monza and get er back in the races! I also like that the videos are kid friendly!
Truer words never spoken, I keep telling my wife, I have 40 acres, All I need is a single wide and a shop from "Here to there"...
That would be perfect
RUNNING THROUGH AND BINGE WATCHING ALL YOUR VIDEOS AND SHARING THEM OVER TO A BUNCH OF FRIENDS IN JOLLY OLD UK , I THOUGHT YOU COULD HAVE CUT A POP CAN IN HALF AND USE THE BOTTOM HALF UPSIDE DOWN AND ZIP TIE IT OR A CLAMPERLATER ON THERE TO BANDAID IT TO GET THROUGH THE RACE 🤘🤘
Use it as a decoration for your shop. Gravel a parking spot, park it and crank the wheel. Also flatten a front tire
Did the race thing with my son for six years and will never regret any of it.
Bradley will remember this all his life, hopefully you guys will make it to Volusia.
That is a strange looking engine for sure. I believe that is the same engine that the Vegas used but of course I believe the Monza was a Vega renamed....not super familiar with those cars.
Love your videos, keep them coming. I am catching up on your videos I have not seen yet and it's just great stuff.
If you really want to keep it, then my suggestion is to fix the frame, throw some tire chains on the rear wheels and weld a snow plow on the front and make some money plowing driveways. I absolutely loved the windshield replacement. It worked a whole lot better than I would have guessed. You are definitely a cool dad.
I like how you measured up your future garage.
Get a big rock and an 8 foot 2X4. Start the car and put the rock on the gas pedal, WFO. . Now, stand in front of the screaming car with the 2X4. Now, in a single powerful motion, jab the 2X4 through the radiator into the fan. .. Stand back and watch what happens. .. Bring your friends to watch and make video.
Dude you are....Fun to watch very much.....But are you sure this ain't the "Red Green Show" you know the old....Possum Lodge deal....Staring Duck Tape and a few more people.....lt was a fun show to watch its here on youtube....Look it up....Thanks...!....But l have an idea you already know about it.....Yea l do really.....!
Man, whatta blast! Bring the Camaro next time, people will FLIP their LIDS!
I also had a 76 Monza with that engine, but it died soon after I bought it. Swapped it out with an IRON DUKE (plus Turbo 200...)
The thing would overheat while driving, but was okay when parked. Couldn't figure out why till one day, as it was running in park, I walked by the radiator and felt hot air blowing at me. I thought WTF??? Then it occurred to me, I used the fan blade from the OHC engine which was turned by the idler pulley, which means it ran in the opposite direction. Duh. Got the right fan and all was well.
