    I wanted you to know, last year I made this for a lady whom I hadn’t met (my husband’s aunt’s mother I law) .... she had been a crafter in her life but wasn’t taking care of herself and was getting sick. She was moved into a place with nurses where she could be cared for, I made this shawl for her in a matter of a few days (I found out about her birthday with only days to spare).... I used premier’s sweet roll in mint swirl.... she LOVED IT and I was sent a picture of her with it. She passed away a few weeks later and they buried her with her shawl.
    I’m so grateful to you and purple iguana. Because of her pattern and your perfect tutorial, I was able to gift a kind lady something of love at the end of her life ❤️

    I just wanted to thank you for taking time to explain the patterns. Not only do you explain the stitches but you go in depth about the placement and general construction of each pattern. This makes it much easier for me to step back take a look at my work and see where I am. You are a fantastic teacher and you make learning so much fun . I probably would have given up a long time ago if I hadn’t found your channel.

    Bless the spider, from all dyslexic and visual kinesthetic learners that want to crochet! I learned the basics as a kid, but couldn't understand written patterns, even into adulthood. I didn't know why until about 20 years later - so I spent that time making the occasional scarf or hat. Discovering youtube crochet along videos was a real game changer, and yours are my favorite! I felt oddly proud when I was able to remember this pattern before the last row. The work you do allows me and plenty of others like me to enjoy an activity we may not be able to do otherwise. Thank you!

      @@katherineharris2080 well, so aptly in the spirit of a spider itself it only looks intimidating! But I'm not fooled, I don't think I'd ever figure out the pineapple stitch without video guidance 😊 it's very very much a worthy challenge; you'll find yourself remembering the repeats before you know it! And if you don't, our beloved Arachnid in Chief lets you know exactly where to go for repeats.
      Much more attainable than it seems... while simultaneously making other casual yarnivores (from personal experience) say, "HOLY F***!" 🤣

      @purpleiguana208 6 лет назад +10

      Lynda, thank you so much! I don't know how much of me offering my patterns for free is kindness and how much is laziness. I think it mostly started because I don't really consider myself a designer so much as a person who has made a thing and hopefully I explained it well enough in case others might want to make it too. Writing patterns is the bane of my existence, which is probably a good part of why simplicity is my thing. I prefer charts to written patterns, but I don't have access to charting software, so all my patterns are "crudely drawn." No one tests them... there's no sort of professional polish to them. I guess under those circumstances, I don't see much point in charging for them. Not to mention how it might complicate my taxes. Although, I do have one pattern that someone told me I would be kicking myself for not charging for, and they were right--it's at almost 15,000 downloads... YIKES! Missed opportunities, maybe. But oh well. It is what it is. :)

Thank you for your videos, and thank you purpleiguana for this pattern! I think I have made every shawl except for the lakeside shawl and the trellis&fan shawl. I make them and then donate them to someone who might be going through a rough time, alone, or sick. I consider them a prayer shawl as I pray for the person I am making it for. Fiber Spider. Thank you for this pattern. I love it and would have never made it without your video. I looked at the pattern and I swear that doesn't say what you showed. LOL I am on my 2nd shawl for charity using this pattern. A tip that helped me quit tripping on that 3rd row repeat............put a stitch marker on the expanded shell stitch spot on the spine of the shawl. This way, you will just feel where that spot needs to be instead of having to go back and look at all the rows so closely. (I ripped out the spine spot many times on the first shawl due to not being able to 'see' the change was needed.

I was going to do the granny with neck line now, but as a relatively new newbie I thought I’d have a look through all your shawls and saw this one and love that it has the boarder…..as it’s a Christmas present I thought is just do this one instead. Really wanted to make a shawl for myself and my friend too and so here we are.
    I am making the seaside shawl and really enjoying it think its clicking hahaha but will go back 3 rows on video just to be sure its lovely.
    I did try the cloister shawl but have put that to the side for now as I was having difficulty when the video ended. This one I have taken off with and I am sure will help with the cloister shawl or (my friend has already done that one).
    Great video tutorials and lovely to meet you.

    Love this! I'm making one now with Malabrigo Rios and a size J hook. This pattern shows off the colors and the stitches pop. Off I go to listen to you read Jane Austen to me. Thank you so much for what you do.

    Thanks for doing this video. I was trying to follow the written pattern but ended up totally confused, when in fact it’s easy peasy, lemon squeezy 😀 Thank you.

    When I started this I was confused with the middle so I finally got an idea and put a marker on it three rows down so I can figure out what I am have to do I am not finished yet but I am really enjoying the pattern now that I understand the middle... and you give so many details with the patterns which is great for me since I don't read patterns very well... I was wondering how long it should be but I listened to the beginning of the instructions and got it...I make a lot of shawls so I am always looking for new ones and I have picked up quite a few of yours.. the one I love the most is virus meets granny I am a favorite of granny ... thank you for taking the time to do these especially for people like me who are not trying to learn to read pattern and why should I . I have you to show me. God Bless
