My 50” fab deck has a different spindle, it doesn’t use the star pattern blades. It’s more like a Z pattern. Blades are too thin and wear out very fast.
Why don't you just remove the deck to put on the blades . Gives you a chance to clean it and inspect belts and pulleys and deck engagement cable . Use slip plate on the underside of your deck 4 coats helps keep grass from sticking to the underside of the deck . my son taught me that because he uses it on his flatbed tow trucks . some will stick but easy to remove
@@ToolsnTechvids was a good excuse to buy a battery impact wrench. Botch blade bolts came right off!! I did try with a normal wrench first - it was gonna be a struggle for sure. Got it all done in about an hour yesterday.
Making your job harder. There’s one pin on each side. Pull those pins and pull the mower deck out and flip it over. Took you longer to jack the mower up.

I have everything but the impact wrench my drill didn't stand a chance
@@nowworld7420 You can try using a wrench with a pipe to get some extra leverage.
I bought a used mower jack for 60 bucks. Very safe and easy to use.

Glad you commented. I have the FAB deck and would have become frulustrated.
The deck should have a quick disconnect to drop it and roll it out, shouldn’t have to raise it.
Good to know!
It does have a disconnect, but it’s not really “quick”. It’s quicker to use a jack.
@@tedschmitt178 It's 3 measly clevis pins.... you think pulling 3 pins takes longer than doing THIS?? 2:23
Helped. Thanks.
Do the blades need to be timed to each other?
Ever heard of Jack Stands... 😂
Wish I had one haha
@@ToolsnTechvids They are 40$ here in Canada.
@@BrianR-ML I should get one haha
@@ToolsnTechvids Keep up the good DIY videos and RUclips AdSense could pay you a new pair of jack stands. 😅👍 thanks for the video
ever heard of simply pulling the 3 clevis pins and sliding the entire deck out......?
How did you keep the spindles from spinning?
Unfortunately I don’t remember, but I don’t think it was an issue.
I held the top with a pair of adjustable pliers
Probably because it was still attached to the drive belt and the brakes were locked

This was very helpful but I am still feeling a bit torqued that you didn't know what foot-pounds are.... ;-)
Is an impact wrench really needed? Seemed like it came right off - wondering if I can just do mine with a wrench and a cheater bar...
If it hasn’t been removed before it can be pretty stubborn. It’s worth a try, though.

@@ghettostreamlabs5724 awesome! 👊
What size socket do you need to remove the blades?
24mm
It's not that heavy. Just lift the front into the blocks or slide the deck out. Also, you are lucky the impact didn't spin the blades into your hand.

plus it looks really unsafe to me
question? prior to removing blades, did you disconnect spark plug? or disconnect battery?
I took the key out. I can’t remember if I removed the spark plug or not. Always a good idea, though.
@@ToolsnTechvids thnk you for getting back to me
you are not brave more on the side of foolish for thinking that you can use so many 2 x 4's safely
