" I'm like a mountain goat." hilarious. Dude great video, fail videos can be some of the most enjoyable not all about catching fish, it's about getting out in the wild and enjoying it.
Actually, this may be my favorite of your "Fish w/ Me" videos. I liked hearing your thought process when youre just not into them seemingly immediately. As a 2nd year, still beginner its nice to see the seasoned ones have outings that look a lot like mine. Cheers!
I just love any content you post man. You’ve turned a huge bass fisherman into a full time fly fisher guy I try but hey. I can almost say I’m a huge fly fisherman!
I like the “fail” format too. Kinda makes us all feel better. Plus I also like the “just fishing with you” style as well. Kinda nice to relax and watch for 10, 20, or 30 minutes.
appreciate the honesty...see video clips of catch after catch...then I go out and lucky to catch two or three... and so the beauty of EDITING... but for a newbie.. good to know I am not alone.
Hey, its better than being cooped up in an office! Enjoyed, thanks for sharing.... 11, 000 feet... you could have at least pretended to be breathing hard... dang man....
Sitting down drinking a beer and fish are swimming every where...standup ad they are all gone...I don't get it.....ummmm....sit back down. From the looks of your shadow....yer stickin out like a trout fisherman standing on a rock. LOL great video
Great stuff! Doing this you made many many people feel better by knowing that even huge fly fisherman sometimes can't catch a fish he sees :) Thank you!
less than 10 seconds in on this video and i subscribed due to one line "im like a mounting goat". I just could stop laughing if this is how you open a video i need to watch more of these XD
Don’t mind a fish less video at all. Lord knows I’ve had more than my share. Surprising that trout in an Alpine lake would hit a woolybugger but I’ve had success doing exactly that. One wouldn’t expect leeches or forage fish to be present but I guess cutthroat aren’t the most selective of game fish. I enjoyed the video even if you didn’t bring huge numbers to the net.
I enjoyed that. I've had days when just being there was enough. I spent some time up in the Selway in Idaho. The alpine lakes usually didn't have any fish because they froze top to bottom in the winter. But, they sure were beautiful. As to the float; There sure was some beautiful water you flew through. That is the trouble for me when on a guided float trip. I want to stop and dredge all those great pools, and we just keep on zooming down. Frantically slinging at the scenery as it goes by. Like I said to begin with; I enjoyed that.
I like your videos with you catch fish or not ,keep making them......I would like to hear you describe and show the rod and the flyers you’re using in your videos. Thanks
Kind of surprised there are fish and fish of size in that high lake. A high laker guru once told me the key in high lakes, at least in the Cascades, is vegetation around and right down to the shoreline. The more vegetation, the more insects. General rule, no vegetation, no fish. Good video and realistic that we all have off days. Keep 'em coming.
The no vegetation, no fish idea is not true in many cases. I know several trophy producing lakes that are way above the tree line surrounded by boulder fields with little to no vegetation
@@4stringmanagmaildcom There are several examples in the Winds and a few in the Beartoothes. There's also a couple in High Uintas. It's true that the majority of lakes that kick out bigger fish tend be at a lower elevation where a lot of vegetation exists However, a lot of that has to do with the fact that those lakes freeze later and thaw earlier than higher elevation lakes. Photosynthesis occurs in the shallows for a longer duration which means more biomass--usually. There's a lot of other factors that play into it like the pH etc. One of my favorite trophy alpine lakes is above 11,000 feet with zero vegetation. The lake has a massive fairy shrimp population and kicks out some mega fatties.
I just moved out of Colorado a month ago. I never got to fish a alpine lake I got to fish the south platte. But I normally fished these pond/lakes by my old house I am just a kid. And have you ever climbed the manitou incline? It is bad.
I once dropped my pipe in the river and didn't know it until I went to get it. I was highly annoyed. About an hour later I'm wading along making my way back to the car and sitting in about 2 feet of water is my pipe! I wasn't even looking for it - didn't know where to start lol.
FlyFishers: always remember the two basic rules of catch-n-release: 1. Leave the fish in the water and 2. Don't handle the fish. An underwater camera helps with pictures when you leave the fish in the water and a Ketchum Release type device helps to release the fish without ever touching it. Tight lines!
As it happens... I am known widely for having Mad Skillz when it comes to failing hard on fishing missions... Hey hand me another larruping Pearl.... I'm on it! Thanks
actually i see you strapped up at some points but in general fly fisherman are way to cool for PFD's so its cool you wear one your buddy had a couple questionable moments standing in the rapids without... one rock strike from a knocked out buddy in waders floating downstream on the way to death.
I have a question for you or anyone who sees this comment. Recently after a day of fishing in my waders and boots, my feet always get really red and bumpy. It usually goes away after a few days. The itch is really bad though, I believe it may be heat rash or contact dermatitis. I usually wear cotton or wool socks in my waders. Any tips on how to combat this issue?
Anybody know what kind of pontoon rafts they are fishing out of? Looking to become a HUGE fly fisher myself and this looks like a good size raft for two dudes...
Hey, your in a kataraft in first part, I've seen your raft setup but haven't seen this raft in vids, I'm trying to figure out which I want to go with, I'm a ww kayaker, have 3 single person katarafts, but want to step it up to 3 person, mostly one person fishing, but the ability to take 2+1 on oars. Thinking 14' or even 16'. Your thoughts in what you like dislike of katarafts over raft?
We are well aware of your 'strong opinions'. If some comments are 'strong opinions' that are contrary to your strong opinions, you'll understand. Like that float toy you call a boat. It's not a boat. It's a beach toy.
Man if you want more failed fishing videos contact me!! I did have an awesome week in Summit county last week and one great day on the Arkansas on the way home. Other than that though.....😂😂😂 I am a Huge fan and huge fisherman!!
Showing failed missions let us ALL feel like Huge fly fishermen. Thank you for the failures as well as the successes.
Yes!
“Catching any?” Classic! Good timing on getting skunked... My Midwest “mud puddle” fly fishing season is over.
“We forgot dog food, you guys got any?” 😂

just midway through my first year on the fly so i couldn't agree more
Starting my Second year fly fishing I agree. I feel way better. Tight lines
Definitely like hearing your thought processes and rationales on things you change when the fishing is tough.
The FFBI hat made this awesome video 100% more awesome
I don't know man. This wouldn't count as a fail in my book. River trip and a hike in the mountains? Huge win imo.👍
How was that a fail ? A fish and beer ,that is a win in my book.
I appreciate these videos! Keep them coming! It's helpful to hear how you proceed with your plans when they aren't working.
Haha the way you admitted to resorting to a Wollybugger truly captures the spirit of what it mean to be a huge fly fisherman

I enjoy your videos a heck of a lot more than your rowing! Thankfully you weren't in a drift boat.
Keep up the great work and positive attitude.
Highly relatable. Great vid as always Ben.
I can’t imagine floating into a construction zone...
Sitting down drinking a beer and fish are swimming every where...standup ad they are all gone...I don't get it.....ummmm....sit back down. From the looks of your shadow....yer stickin out like a trout fisherman standing on a rock. LOL great video
This video was honestly super helpful for me to learn some strategies and lessons in patience because far too often, my fly fishing outings are fails
Stay HUGE as always Ben! Love the videos!
The you catchin anything to the excavator had me dying
Awesome. By climbing on those rocks, you made my new (3 weeks old today) left knee hurt. Thank you.
Great stuff! Doing this you made many many people feel better by knowing that even huge fly fisherman sometimes can't catch a fish he sees :) Thank you!
That looks a lot like my fishing trips...

Best fishing channel on RUclips, not even close.
TIGHT LINES!!!
I thought fly fishing was supposed to be calm and peaceful. Liked and subscribed. Funny stuff.
had an off day yesterday in the White Mountains, so this was a much needed boost
You did NOT list tenkara pole under things I use ...dude Im dying 😂😂😂 Great vids Ben, stay HUGE
Loved it. More failure vids to motivate us noobs.
"catching any" to the excavator had me dying
Set my alarm, absolutely worth it! Huge love
8:23 "catchin any?!"
Yes lmao
The segment that shows heavy construction equipment in the river brings up a question. Does that state have water quality standards for turbidity?

I love this we don't always Catch fish.
More rafting videos man, those are sweet
happy to see more like this, Ben! escapism is great in 2020.
You're definitely supposed to go over the rapids sideways and then backward! 💯 true
If you film it, we will watch!

That ffbi hat is sick🤙
Fly Fishing Bureau of Investigation?

Ah I totally struck out yesterday so glad to see it isn’t only me !
the old rich guy J park float eh? caught my biggest CO trout out there. Great country.
You looked more like me today :) Dry flies are my favorite also. I have yet to go to a high alpine lake. On the schedule for next year. Stay Huge Ben.
I enjoyed this video quite a bit.
Sunday night that’s extra huge
I’d like to see the failed trips. Only because I can relate to that more. lol
Ben, You are so F-ING KOOL Love the boat videos catch or not. Thank you.
That FFBI hat tho... nice
I like your videos with you catch fish or not ,keep making them......I would like to hear you describe and show the rod and the flyers you’re using in your videos. Thanks
We all have stupid things happen at times. I have felt like the biggest moron fly fishing at times

"Wanna come with me?" LOL. Thanks for the beautiful scenery and fish!! Cross their eyes...

For the one person that sees this, I wish you a good day!🤙
Right back at ya.
Well heres 2 people congrats!
Make that 3! Have a great day bud!
Here’s 4 everyone have a great day
This comment is the definition of wholesome
I like the failure too it make us human. Was great video!!!!
Hell, most the time I go fishing I hardly catch anything 😅
Fun video man! Just wondering why you don't bother for brook trout? Thanks man!
I have several videos with brook trout.
Why the brook trout hate?
“as soon as I stand up, there gone.” Typical Bigfoot issue. I know these things, I’m from Washington State. Blue Lake is my home waters BTW.
Domb question, do you walk to lakes with waders and wadeing boots?
That heavy equipment in the river made me do a double take.
If you ever want to come out to washington and run some whitewater and get into coastal fish lemmie know!
❤Love honest videos…..
This is an awesome video! Givr!

Sorry for the newb question... but why don’t you want to catch a Brooke ?

I thought this was going to be a Bill Dance type of fail video
It's a crime not to watch this on monday😳
That's what I'm talking about. Bust your hiney into an alpine lake and still refuse to go ugly.

Question?!?! What you got against Brook Trout?
Great video.
What's with the construction in the river?
Some billionaires are especially douchey with land and water.
Pretty fly for a Huge guy
should have had footage off you filling out a shuttle slip
I’m sure they could dig it up. Sick burn, btw

speaking of huge fails.... you should do an episode on lifejackets and whitewater safety.... ohhh wait.
