    Today we test two secret little guys with FLEX written on the outside of them. Are they FLEX's new compact impact wrenches? Who knows for sure, but it's not our jobs to wear the suits and return emails to the big guys, so frankly not sure we care! They look like impacts os let's test 'em vs DeWALT DCF921 Atomic and Milwaukee Gen 3.

      Someday, in the distant future, there will be portable tools in the kilovolt class. The mind- (and arm-) bending torque may require entirely new metallurgy for fasteners, and three or more burly men to control. The TTC will by then have become the dominant force in all entertainment, and stadiums will have been converted to torque-dueling arenas, with graphs' y-axes now reaching into tens or even hundreds of kilofoot-pounds (pound-feet having been banned by popular vote).
      It will be glorious.

    I know in an auto shop weight doesn't matter much. I spent my life working in the hvac trade, all my tools have to be carried to the chiller, boiler, cooling tower, etc that I am working on. Which is usually not very close to were I park. So power per pound would be of interest to me.

    • @jinxtacy
      @jinxtacy 6 месяцев назад +2

      I would disagree and say weight does matter in an automotive shop. I mostly concerned with operation though and the initial kick. I'm slightly curious as to what feels better because if you look at some of these tools they ramp so hard which is nice if it gets the fastener off, but I wonder about if it doesn't, how much force is transferred into the user? Maybe the ones with a slightly softer start but then ramps up feel better but I'm really not sure. As far as what you're looking for, all the data is there you just have to divide whichever metric interests you by the weight of that model. Unfortunately, you're not investing into a tool unless you have a consistent workload. They have a few videos on brands like DeWalt and Milwaukee and how much power you need to do certain jobs in their opinion. It seems these days you have to look at the EU for leadership and they seem to invest heavily into worker health and creating standards and determinations on damaging things to workers health in professional environments. It's never really bad to look out for yourself long term. I would say in automotive a lot of times. It's the toll that actually fits that gets used but if there was a choice to have a little bit more weight that lessens the strain on the user it could be worth it as long as the weight isn't what's causing damage either.

On videos i have seen on milwaukee vs dewalt, the milwaukee fastener mode looked superior to me, on tightening mode, stopping at lower torque rating, and staying stopped with trigger held. I did buy 4 Flex power tools, and so far, every tool and battery has performed perfectly. One thing about Milwaukee; I've had 4 Milwaukee tools fail, electronically. The Milwaukee M18 tools cannot be considered as a highly reliable tool. I own 10 or so different M18 tools, and 2 of the models have died on a consistent basis, and I'm a very careful user.
      That's a 20% failure rate. Both of my M18 impacts died after only 1 year of normal use, indoors only, and never left in the rain ever--due to electronic speed control failure.
      Both of my M18 round canister vacuums failed electronically, after ONLY using them to pickup cat hair indoors (I had to remove the digital speed controller and voltage regulator and shunt the motor directly to the battery to make them work again). In both cases, I went and bought a new model, only to have the new model fail exactly the same way. I've not heard of Flex (or Hercules) having the same reliability issues.
      Overheating and stopping momentarily is totally fine. Failing permanently from normal humidity and moisture is not ok. The Milwaukee tools don't overheat, but they certainly fail routinely, which appears to be a problem with their electronics being more fragile than some of the other brands.
      M18 tools are a good value, for their performance, but they are not as reliable as the old brushed power tools.

      @TorqueTestChannel unfortunately so am I. I feel they are focusing on Flex and the most we will see from kobalt is a refresh on drills, drivers and maybe the saw. If they keep the line that would be great too.
      I mean I do see from a business perspective not keeping the kobalt line up to date. They have Flex and Craftsman. The koblat tools they have now aren't terrible and would make a decent "value line" as they age. Imo

      @dancearoundtheworld5360 a long neck ratchet would be nice for sure. I find the ratchet they have to be unusable for a lot of jobs due to the size of the body with the short neck. I did find the Skil 12v ratchet to be a good size to fit in more places. I picked it up a couple years ago for ~$100 for the kit. It's actually my go to. I pick it over the kobalt or milwaukee most of the time.
      The milwaukee isn't a bad tool so don't flame me,I just like the extra hand space of the skil, I don't have to grip the battery on it like I do the milwaukee. However if you need a long ratchet, the milwaukee is your best bet if you got it.

    Super new to the power tool scene and thought since I’m starting out and have no clue what I’m doing, now is the perfect time to take a chance on Flex since we are both start ups 😂 (yes I now flex has been around via its parent company for over many many years). I only got the Flex compact combo for $199 and decided I will buy as I grow. I also got the Skil circular saw as I wanted to stay within the same family and Flex and Skil are under the same parent company. I have no clue if my buy and choice of brand was a good decision, but I’m ignorant enough in the world of power tools that ignorance will be bliss in my case.
    My new year’s resolution was to start building things and stop buying them, like simple bookcases and storage shelves. Let’s see what happens.

    Btw I doubt the are going near that 40A, they would risk blowing the fuse. Makita 18v impact drivers also have 40A fuses but don't use near that.
    And how shocking, flex tools overheating? They have just tuned them for peak power so they can win power tests like this, but not perform in real world which is a shame. But marketing works I guess...

      Not in any mobile application so it's pointless compared to pneumatic tools which are self-cooling in operation.
      A pump, pack and radiator are too bulky and a finned Peltier cooler would be bulky and devour amps. Not everything needs to be electric and people needing what air does buy pneumatics,
      I use epicyclic manual torque multipliers, corded, cordless and pneumatic tools as suits the job. (BTW driving pneumatics for short periods off CO2 cylinders works nicely and you can use the same vapor withdrawal CO2 cylinders for wire welding and rapid tire inflation in the field like many off-roaders do.) The solultion is not just more beans but variety of beans.

      @coyoteseattle 6 месяцев назад

      @@Comm0ut I won't argue with you, there. I wasn't thinking of water cooling to be useful; I just occasionally appreciate horribly over-engineered and impractical "solutions", like that gas-powered milwaukee impact conversion Torque Test Channel did a video on last year. :p

    Do you guys have a column for perceived cost per volt? I'm curious if that is something to consider. 40v does X work, 24v does X work, 18v does X work. Compare to see cost per watt of power. So 24v does 200 ft/bls, 18v does 180 ft/bls. So per price of watt the at is more cost effective? As everything is getting pushed to electric, I expect costs to go up on electric bills and with all the brown and black outs going around.
