I love this movie. The fact that John and Max are in their late 60s and still getting told off by John’s dad like a couple of 10 year olds you a genius. It was sad when old mr Gustafson passed in the sequel
I love that these old pros got a chance to appear in such a great movie at this late point in their careers. Matthau and Lemon do their best work together since "The Odd Couple."
At 4:09 I love how he says "Mr. Gustafson" like he is 12 years old again(probably how they use to fight as kids) . In the sequel he does reveal how Mr Gustafson was more of a father than his own
The writing in this movie is phenomenal. There's so much about this scene I can say positive about. The particular line you're talking about some of my absolute favorites
Max admitted in the sequel that he had a better father figure in JW than he did with his own dad. John agreed mentioning that he was always fond of Max
You'd be surprised. Was fishing with my older brothers buddy one day and he was getting so pissed off that all we were catching was rock bass, he was literally punting them back into the lake. Anyways he catches another one and didn't realize I had moved to to grab another beer and he chucks one over his shoulder without looking, next thing I know BAM took a fish right to the face :D
old men fighting is funny as hell. I'm a property manager and alot of my tenants in a certain building happen to be about this age, and i actually see this shit almost on a weekly basis with a few of the tenants. It's funny as hell i have to record that shit and put it here.
My favorite part is Jack Lemmon briefly rechanneling Professor Fate screaming, "MAAAAAAAAX!" As loud as he possibly could. He even screams "Idiot" with the emphasis exactly the same.
Love The Grumpy Men Grumpier Men movies and the two Odd Couple movies they made and Out To Sea they also made with eachother ! They are awesome actors very funny had get me laughing when I watch thier movies ! Life for them was cut short!
- Amy was a good woman! - She was the best! - And she was a damn sight more loyal than May ever was! - Absolutely! - So! - So what? - Huh?? - What? - Huh? - So? - What? - .... WHAT? - What? - Well- So... Did ya? - What?! - YOU KNOW!! - Oh. That- that's a private matter.... - Private my foot! Did you?! - That's all I can tell you. - You'd better tell me. - ALRIGHT! WE DID THE HORIZONTAL MAMBO! WE DANCED IT! IT WAS THE GREATEST SEX I EVER HAD IN MY LIFE! ALRIGHT, ARE YOU HAPPY? (Somehow, I can imagine Walter Matthau and Jack Lemon having this sort of conversation in real life)
my 30 year old kids get in an arguement and I find myself saying the same thing,Hey you damn kids knock it off.....they know its time to stop ...ok Pop LOL
Yep, but Max realized how much John truly loves Ariel and lets her go. He was better off with Maria in the sequel because they have a similar stubborn streak and loves fishing.
Hearing Jack Lemmon screaming "Maaaaaaax" took me back instantly to watching The Great Race on VHS and hearing Professor Fate (Jack Lemmon) screaming at Max :)
Know Think back my mom use Date my dad uncle before my dad start dad my mom. Back old days. After 55 years still have ups and downs seven kids and I was oldest child. But then people think youngest we’ll eat less and work hard in life. One greatest film movie Ever made Thank You. My parents been together by April 13 th. I was born early first April 9 th. At same time. Wish people stop treat me I was youngest I am oldest child . Like my Dad is oldest child. More like my Daddy ways of Life. His kind of music and later my mom favorite music songs. All mix together. Hope put on steelbox Collection awesome film movie Thank You.
No matter how old you get your parent's word is still like the law! Me and my sister still bicker in our thirties and my mum will shout at us to stop and after watching this I get why she shouts she's has thirty years of our fights and she's done with it no wonder Mr Gustafson said "Damn kids! Can't live with 'em can't shoot 'em!" He's had over 60 years of their bickering he must be so done with that shit 🤣🤣🤣
Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ruclips.net/user/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
Yep. John pointed out that May wasn't a good wife and she often cheated on him with other men. He knew about her sexual prowess, but Max didn't. John mentions that had his friend married May instead of waiting for Amy, he would've been divorced and unhappy
Gustafson: She came to me! Goldman: Bull! You tried to steal her away just like you did May! Gustafson: Can I remind you Einstein? May was no prize. Goldman: She was to me. Gustafson: I was married to the woman 20 years, she was no prize! Goldman: She was to me! Gustafson: Yeah! Well, that's why you're a moron! If you ended up with May, you never would have had Amy. And Amy was a good woman. She was damn sight ball loyal than May ever was. Goldman: Absolutely. Translation: Gustafson's wife was a piece of s&%^ who cheated on Gustafson. Meanwhile, Goldman's wife was loyal, faithful, and was a devout mother until she died. So Gustafson admitted that Goldman won because he had the better wife.
I love this movie. The fact that John and Max are in their late 60s and still getting told off by John’s dad like a couple of 10 year olds you a genius. It was sad when old mr Gustafson passed in the sequel
What was even sadder was that Grumpier Old Men was Burgess Meredith's last movie. He died a couple years later.
He should have gotten an Oscar for both movies...
"Damned kids, can't live with em, can't shoot em" lol
"Looks like God remembered you, pop." 😢😢
A true parent never stops being a parent lol
"Kids, can't live with em, can't shoot em." Ahahaha
Classic! These days you can’t even have a great line like that in a movie...bc someone will get butthurt and complain!
@@kg6qzx you haven't watched many movies lately have you
Pure gold, love them, they are missed.
I love that these old pros got a chance to appear in such a great movie at this late point in their careers. Matthau and Lemon do their best work together since "The Odd Couple."
My favorite part was grandpa screaming “drop that FISH…..don’t make me separate you two again….damnit!” 😂😂😂😂
The enduring power of being a dad. Even at 94 your kid is scared that you'll kick his ass if he acts up
"Damn kids! Can't live with 'em...can't shoot 'em!" 🙂
I waited years to hear Jack Lemmon say "Holy Shit" in a film. These two were priceless together.
He says worse things in "Glengarry Glen Ross" and that was one year prior lol
Best actors of all time. I love this movie
Jack, Walter, and Burgess never should've died this soon. They're all too good at their jobs.
There's a line in that movie where Jack lemmon says "I've laid more pipe in this town than wabasha plumbing". Pimp line.
It’s hilarious how even at their ages Max still calls John’s father Mr Gustafson
At 4:09 I love how he says "Mr. Gustafson" like he is 12 years old again(probably how they use to fight as kids) . In the sequel he does reveal how Mr Gustafson was more of a father than his own
Deep down, they were always friends.
Haha! Plus he gets parental by saying don’t make have to separate you two again dammit!! Haha once a father always a father
I noticed that too....he shows respect to Mr. Gustafson when he hears his voice.
The writing in this movie is phenomenal. There's so much about this scene I can say positive about. The particular line you're talking about some of my absolute favorites
Max admitted in the sequel that he had a better father figure in JW than he did with his own dad. John agreed mentioning that he was always fond of Max
DROP - THAT - FISH!!!
Best line in a movie ever :P
3:55 Haha I always loved this part with the Fish Knife best improvised weapon ever made by mother nature.
You'd be surprised. Was fishing with my older brothers buddy one day and he was getting so pissed off that all we were catching was rock bass, he was literally punting them back into the lake. I LOVE Burgess's line delivery. :)
4:25 fav Burgess Meredith line of the movie!
We should all be so lucky to have a lifelong friendship like this. Take the good with the bad but they always have your back.

One of my all time favorites!🔥
"Kids, can't live with em, can't shoot em".
I love how they are fighting like 1st graders on the playground and all the other "adult" kids are egging them on... priceless.
And the oldest guy has the best line ever: "Damn kids!" 😂😂
Tried to stab him with a frozen fish LOL...
My favorite part is Jack Lemmon briefly rechanneling Professor Fate screaming, "MAAAAAAAAX!" As loud as he possibly could.
He even screams "Idiot" with the emphasis exactly the same.

I forgot how brilliant these movies were. Had to order the blu ray set to watch tomorrow. 😂

A great scene from a great movie! If people ask me why I'm laughing today, it's because I'll be recalling this vid ...thanks!
HEEY !! DROP THAT FISH !!!
my 30 year old kids get in an arguement and I find myself saying the same thing,Hey you damn kids knock it off.....they know its time to stop ...ok Pop LOL
Reminds me of when my adults boys got to wrestling in the kitchen , " Hey ! knock that shit off ... damn kids " lol
When he yelled, "It was the greatest sex I had in my life! " to someone who was crushing on her...I couldn't stop laughing
That line kills me the way he declares it from the hilltops!!!
I miss those two!! They both loved her.

Kids. Can't live with them, can't shoot 'em!
My personal all time favorite comedy.
I think every family on earth has a pair of these. Lol
Lovely film. I always laugh when I watch it :)
I just finish watching the first presidential debate of 2020 between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, and it made me think of these two scenes.
@@jozajomi That debate could also have easily been from movie The Odd Couple 2.
OM! Me too.
This is the best damn movie there ever was
These guys are great.
So, so what? What, what? Huh? So~? What? What? What?
Best back to forth with just questions.
I coulda watched a movie with Burgess as the main character. He was the funniest guy in this film
That was great! Yeah, I liked the part where John throws a dead fish in Max's truck. That is a great scene. :)
YOOOOOU SCHMUCK!!!
This movie and also the 2nd one makes made me laugh so very hard !!!
All were great actors! Rip
Hearing Jack Lemmon screaming "Maaaaaaax" took me back instantly to watching The Great Race on VHS and hearing Professor Fate (Jack Lemmon) screaming at Max :)
