  • In the West, the individual is in the driver’s seat with priority for freedoms, autonomy, and decision-making. Yet, we commonly overlook the issues of inequity and accessibility within this system. In her talk, Kerry draws on her clinical experience to critically examine the potential powers of collectivism and the perils of individualism. Dr. Kerry Uebel is a highly experienced primary care physician with extensive clinical experience in HIV and tuberculosis (TB) care, particularly in South Africa. She is currently based at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia, where she plays a key role in educating and mentoring undergraduate medical students. She is dedicated to fostering a passion for holistic primary care, particularly in underserved and high-need communities, and convenes courses designed to prepare future healthcare professionals to address these critical areas. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
