  • Porsche has announced the Macan EV. But, is it worth buying? Or will it be a monetary black hole.

Your arguments are the standard ones that apply against all EVs. You haven't raised any arguments that pertain directly to the EV Macan.

I doubt many Macan owners will use it for hauling heavy things. If EV tech is improving dramatically, then the cost of public chargers could also potentially come down dramatically which will greatly improve the number of chargers. Compared to petrol might become an ever more precious commodity thus potentially having a depreciation effect on petrol models in some countries anyway. Massive EV depreciation will be less of an issue if keeping car for a long time though there is likely a premium if leasing, though savings such as charging with private solar panels or government business incentives will help offset. Battery range loss might be 1% every 10k miles so even after 200k miles, possibly more than the typical scrappage mileage of a Macan, there will still be 80% of range left. Battery failure is rare and likely covered by almost-decade-long included warranty or purchasable for longer I would hope. Tesla doesn't have all the same dynamic ability, luxury or aesthetic

Typically, you wouldn't need to consider replacing your battery until degradation reaches 50-65 percent. There is also a time component to battery life - it degrades even if you don't drive the car long distances. EV batteries are designed to perform for at least 10 years.. dont add to the waste of the world by replacing your EV youre suppose to have it for a long time ...spend the 14k to 18k to replace the battery...dont be dumb we drive EVs for a reason...because we care about the environment...look after your ev and it will look after you...dont get rid of it...because the abysmal market for used EVs is horrid...and longevity is a problem of our evs $$$$...do it for the environment...dont worry about your Money...the environment will reward you..whats better money or the environment and mother nature smiling? i hope you recycle as well...

Most people in the market for one of these cars aren't thinking about replacing the battery or depreciation.....they simply want a brilliant car to drive for a few years at most then trade it in for a new one....yes they might grumble about money lost at the time but that won't stop them because it's all about high end sporty driving and that's what Porsche do best.

defeats the purpose of driving an EV just toss the problems to someone else to drop $20,000 dollars to replace a battery.which they wont..youre suppose too keep it for longer.otherwise your just adding to the garbage already on this planet... EV used market is abysmal....like actaully horrible...majority of people aint gonna touch an SUV EV PORSCHE due to the replacement fee for the expensive battery when its already an Expensive car...see the problem...

I take your point.... but let's say the battery only genuinely requires replacing in 10 years time.... that's a long time in the world of battery tech and how much they will cost. So replacement might be a viable proposition.@@bpw8214

The point with this car is people will never NEED a Macan EV, but they will want it. Porsche know this, and they know people will buy it not to just get into an EV, but to get into a Porsche EV. This vid completely justifies why you wouldn’t get it Mark, and a lot of the points you make are correct but Porsche aren’t marketing this car at people with the similar mindset to you. This car will for sure sell to those looking for that. And surprisingly enough, there a quite a few of those people out there. However I think the Macan EV won’t be as huge of a draw to enter the world of Porsche EV’s as the Macan ICE was when getting people into their first Porsche ICE.

Got a Tesla S for 7 years. No issues with battery. Small losses. If I can it’s because I want a new car . What’s true the battery and range will keep evolving but not to buy a EV now because of this is like not built the latest pc or mobile phone because the new beter one.
