- I am going to show you the cheapest and the best way on HOW TO CLEAN / RESTORE ALCANTARA STEERING WHEEL. Alcantara Steering Wheel can get grabby and shiny very quick unless you are using gloves all the time. There are plenty of Cleaning How to videos online but all use special products that cost money!
TRUST me! all you need is Fairy liquid, warm water and microfibre cloth. and 10-15 min of your time!

is fairy liquid dishsoap?
Yes
Fairy is a potent detergent, so it works here to break up the oil deposits from the hands of people who have touched the wheel. You can also use this technique on leather steering wheels. Only a small drop of Fairy is required. For alcantara an old toothbrush 🪥 will work better at working in the detergent than a microfiber cloth
I use Dettoll and a wire brush, it's the same method I use for sprucing up my ball sack. I use a separate brush for my sack though, I'm not an animal...

Thanks a lot it worked. I have the thrustmaster 599xx evo wheel . I used it for 3 years without gloves so it was pretty dirty. In about 30 minutes of rubbing it looked like it was brand new. I definetly recommend this method over the special cleaning products as it saves money and time .

Trying this on my 2014 Camaro right now. My steering wheel looks exactly like yours did before the cleaning.
Thanks for that, my AMG with 35k on the clock was really shiny & slippy. Doing this has brought the nap back took all the shine away. Really impressed.

once it is dry and clean like that give it a hit with a small brush to bring the nap back up and it will look even better ....

I've just washed my Fanatec Club Sport F1 Esports steering wheel! I didn't use Fairy washing up liquid, instead I used Dove beauty bar soap! Since the bathroom is right next to me.

Is fair liquid similar to dawn dish soap? And would it work the same way with dawn?

I did this except the wheel was still on the car and it came up great.
I then used 1000 grit sand paper followed by 2000 grit for a light sand to level it up and even it out and it honestly looks brand new. Amazing!

Quick question why you sanding alcantara? Is it alcantara or standard leather lol?
@@pamperexpress1089 sanding it helps to remove the build up of tall bits and balls that appear after you wipe it this way. It gives you a nice smooth surface afterwards. Otherwise it all clumps up and it looks kind of ugly.

I just got a second hand BMW, I'm not sure if the steering wheel is alcantra, or if it's aftermarket or whatever, but it's really sticky for some reason, any idea if it can be fixed, cuz it is a nice wheel other than the stickiness. I think something melted the material over time. I have a similar issue with the door handle (interior).
Just tried it on mine and wow. I can say this does work. Tip to add. Use a toothbrush and gently go in circles. That helps too

I highly doubt it makes a difference ha ha. Any dishwashing liquid will work.

Is Fairy the same as any quality dish soap? My alcantara wheel is stock in my car and I want to restore it. In Sweden we have Yes dish soap, it's really thick and lasts ages. Do you think I can manage not to remove my wheel? I also have buttons on it so it's gonna be a looong day removing it all.
Yes any good quality dish soap will work. Be careful!!! Water and electronics don’t usualy mix! It’s doable if you are careful
@@RuskiWeldFab I should've mentioned that "Yes" is a brand we have, English isn't my first language so just want to make sure we both mean regular dish soap. Probably the most concentrated dish soap in the world. 1 litre have lasted me 2 years.
I think I will put some plastic over the buttons. I know water and electronics don't mix. But I'm always cautious wrenching on cars, especially on my dream car. I work with trains, trust me when I say you have to be violent, you go for a sledge hammer directly or a 1" pneumatic two hand wrench and they usually don't break when water gets on circuit boards or 3 phase stuff like inverters or converters, transformers or transducers :'D

Just turn the wheel and wash the bottom so gravity keeps it away from electrics
