    Time for a new How To Detailing Video, this time round I show you how to deep clean that scary surface that is alcantara! Expand this box for the products used!
    This time round I show you the different steps you can use to restore and maintain any alcantara surface. Detailing and restoring surfaces should not fill you with fear. Hopefully this video will help you!
    Different ways to deep clean alcantara:
    Basic Clean / Maintenance:
    Spray a small amount of interior shampoo to a microfiber cloth. This could be a clean such as the ones listed below! Next grip the steering wheel with the microfiber and twist and rub the surface. The cleaner with pull out any dirt whilst the microfiber will plump the feel of pile of the alcantara.
    Brush Cleaning:
    If the basic clean above was not enough, grab a short bristle interior brush such and one listed below. Spray some interior cleaner onto the brush and give the surface a good scrub! Be sure to get into all of the stitching and corners. If needed use a tooth brush to get to the tighter areas! once every square mm has been scrubbed dry down the surface with a microfiber towel.
    Top Tips:
    -Once dry use a seude shoe brush to plump the alcantara surface for that factory fresh feel!
    -If your alcantara has bobbled up do not fear. Grab a Colourlock 1000 grit sanding pad and lightly rub over the surface. this will cut back the dead material leaving fresh alcantara underneath!

    This is the most thorough video explaining how to fully restore an Alcantara steering wheel. I followed everything you did and was able to bring the grimiest dirtiest Alcantara steering wheel back to 98% like new condition

    Just saw this very helpful clip. I did the same on an E63 and we have the same G-shock so I thought I was seeing a video of myself, LOL. I like your technique and find it more efficient than using a strong vacuum to 'lift the pile' after brushing and wiping in down. It's always a treat to break up the day with a nice clip from you. All the best!

    Thank you very much. I restored an Alcantara steering wheel from a 2012 Camaro ZL1 and that Auto Finesse product worked insanely good! Also used the leather brush and suede brush you recommended and they did not disappoint. Love from America 🇺🇸
    P.S. your video was the first and only video I watched for cleaning and restoring alcantara!

    Really helpful, thanks. I have a Momo on my sim rig and I have been wearing karting gloves to try and protect the alcantara from shit and oils on my hands, however I think some of the rubber from the palms of the gloves has kind of mashed in with the pile and given it a bald look. Was worried about brushing it, but after watching this I may get some fine wet and dry sandpaper and give it a going over, thanks :)

    Question, once the pile begins to " pill" where little strands of it lift and become clumped up, Is there a technique to repair this? I can't remember if I ever heard that you could use a lady's leg razor to shave and sort of even out the material, then follow up with a deep cleaning and pile lift like shown in your video? Have you ever attempted to do this? Please advise.

    Great video...very informative. I'm in the process of putting an order in for with my local MB dealer. The steering wheel finish was one of the decisions I was struggling over. Alcantara or regular leather. I really wanted the alcantara but I know those things look hideous after some use. This video is making lean towards the alcantara. Quick question, doesn't the sanding remove material or does it just raise and even out the texture?

      Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on my video!
      This technique actually removed a small amount of materials. A very small amount.

    Nice work - I have the same wheel in a CLS63, but I have pilling, like on a woolen jumper, on the alcantara. I've seen people use fine sandpaper to remove, what are your thoughts ? Is this what you mean by "bobbles" ?

    • @JoeHuntley
      @JoeHuntley  2 года назад +1

      Exactly yes! The Colourlock 1000 grit sanding paper removes this a treat!
      Thanks for watching!

    Question on this, doesn't the brush and hard handling eventually strip the stitching? I have a cla 45s and want to keep the yellow stitching vibrant, but my experience on normal sewing is that the cotton threads break over time with cleaning.. Is this something to be concerned about?

    • @JoeHuntley
      @JoeHuntley  Год назад +1

      I would advise a softer approach around the stitching but keep it wet with cleaner!

    Lol. It’s dark because it’s wet. It always looks better right after you wipe it with a wet cloth. Wait 3 hours when it’s dry it will look worse than before.

      Smart comment, unfortunately for you it didn't. You cant sand a wet steering wheel, it has to be bone dry. A week later the owner had me come and do others because they where so happy with the results.
      Next time don't be so confident my friend.

    Very good but when Alcantera has got to the stage of needing this amount of love then that is it…it’s game over. Sure, you can revive it but in no time it will be back to how it was before. This is a bandaid solution. Once it’s perished, revival is good for a week at tops.
