After reading the Breda owner's manual for this shotgun (and from my own experience), there are two things to comment on. First, the manual states that the trigger group is removed BEFORE the bolt assembly is removed. From my own experience, this makes it much easier to deal with the "tail" of the bolt as there are no trigger group parts to get in the way. Second, the manual shows that the correct placement of the plain washer is NOT installed against the receiver at the "bottom" of the recoil spring, but instead is installed at the "top" of the recoil spring along with the other rings. In other words, the spring goes on the magazine tube first, followed by the plain washer, then the beveled washer (Breda calls this a brake "sleeve"), and finally the brass ring with steel band. I hope this helps others.
Thanks. I took mine apart for the first time today and it was indeed in this order. Also there was a washer with teeth on its inside under the crush washer in the stock.
@@jameson7276 Just measured it for you. It is ID: 26.4mm, OD: 31.95mm, height: 1.94mm. Do you happen to know the measurements for the plastic washers that the newer ones came with on the end?
Thank you so much for this video! I inherited my grandfather's 20 gauge that was inoperable. Thanks to this video I was able to tear it down, clean it, and figure out the problem. When it was reassembled last time, the bolt tail was not in the recoil spring guide. All is good now, and it works like new. Thank you!!
This was really useful. I’ve shot over and unders for a few years now but I’m thinking about buying a semi-auto soon. Great to hear from another British shooter too
Thank you for the super helpful video. I recently acquired the same model (I believe). I just found our from watching your video that I don't have the spring washers and that first metal part. Do you have any link I can find those on? Do you the name full exact name of this shotgun so I can research myself?
Thanks man. I have a Breda but maybe different model, do some of them come without a friction brass ring?? mine has only 2 small metal rings one on each side of the spring
Brilliant video extremely helpful, one question if you don't mind answering? I've recently aquired the same shotgun and a total newbie to semi autos, on the left side of the receiver there is a little switch / lever is this to stop the next cartridge being automatically loaded depending on the position of the switch? If not whats its purpose. Many thanks
Hey. Yes thats what it appears to do although I'm not sure why you would want that, maybe when training someone? I noticed that when the latch/ lever is rotated forward it also hinders the cartridge from loading into the magazine so in essence it becomes a single shooter. If I find a better answer I'll post it here
Good question thanks.I'm in Canada and also just acquired a Breda Brescia and was curious about switch? So back is re-chamber and forward is single shot ? Anything else To know about left side switch ?
Yes, this is called the magazine cut-off. In some circumstances, you may wish to change the shell that's already in the chamber for a different type (e.g. a different target load, or switch from buckshot to slug). In this case, flip the switch towards the barrel to block any shells from the magazine from entering the chamber, then pull back on the bolt handle to eject the unwanted shell from the chamber, then drop in the desired shell and fire it. To resume loading the shells from the magazine, simply flip the switch back the other way.
Reading the manual it says the recoil mechanism has to be set for different loads , but how light can you go and still reliably cycle ? Like does it cycle skeet loads ? Most of the stuff I can find around here is around 28 gr but the manual says the break can be regulated for 33-34 gr or 35-36 gr
Nice Video. I have an old Breda Autoloader Quick Choke model, not the same as yours but similar Unfortunately, I managed to get the bolt stuck open. Pushing the carrier release button does nothing. Would you have any thoughts on how I might be able to free up the bolt without having to disassemble the shotgun? Thanks!
You could start by ensuring the washers and collar on the mag tube are in the right order as that can cause the bolt to get stuck. Start by slowly releasing the magazine cap. If the bolt flies forward then the washers are on incorrectly. If that don't work then best to carefully dissemble to find the problem.
@@brainteasetv Hi, thank you so much for replying. It turns out that the problem was that, with dummy rounds in the magazine and a failed autoload of a dummy shell into the chamber, the magazine latch lever and bolt seemed to get themselves stuck after I pulled the bolt back after the failed autoload. The bolt in the open position and the magazine latch lever in a closed position. When I freed up the magazine latch lever to unload the magazine, the bolt would then close with the release lever (after I freed my finger from between the 1st dummy round out of the magazine and the shell carrier - lol I should have used a screwdriver to free it). If I had to disassemble, your video would have been my guide. Thanks again!

Interesting. Mine doesn't even have the plain washer. Supposing it's necessary (although I doubt it) what are the dimensions of the washer?

Thanks, glad it was useful. Just picked up a Mossberg 500 so I'll do a video for that soon
Great video! I just acquired a 710 Magnum and this was extremely helpful in understanding how to tear it down. Thanks for taking the time to post it.
You are welcome, that's what this channel is all about
Can you show a video or send me one on the proper loading, and shooting. The two tabs get me confused on my old Breda.

No problem, well done for finding the issue, hope you get it sorted 👍
