  • With the 1986 release of her third studio album, "Control," Janet Jackson officially established herself as a pop star in the music industry. Following her previous two albums "Janet Jackson" and "Dream Street" that underperformed, Janet was able to regroup and collaborate with the new producing-songwriting duo, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Together, the trio created an album that helped pioneer & popularize the genre of New Jack Swing originated by Teddy Riley, and they helped the genre become a mainstream style of music, in which Janet's superstar brother, Michael Jackson was later inspired by.
    Control featured the classic songs such as 'What Have You Done For Me Lately', 'The Pleasure Principle', 'Control', 'Let's Wait Awhile', 'Funny How Time Flies (when you're having fun)', and the number one song 'When I Think of You'.
    In this video, we will take a look back at the creation of this iconic album. As well as highlight how this album helped start the trend of "eras" in music and set the tone for artistic expression, in which artists such as Beyoncé & Mariah Carey gained inspiration from.
    Let me know in the comments if you were able to catch Janet on her Together Again tour or if you have been able to catch her live at a previous tour/concert.

    As a little girl, the Janet Jackson was one of the first albums I purchased. Years later I purchased Janet. That will always be my favorite album. Rhythm Nation 1814 would probably be a close second from her albums. The Pleasure Principle,
    Funny How Time Flies, Let’s Wait a While are probably my favorite from the Control Album.

    I love the Control album. It's her declaration of independence album from her family. My favorite songs on this album are in the order of Control, The Pleasure Principle, What Have You Done For Me Lately, Nasty, Let's Wait Awhile, Funny How Time Flies When You're Having Fun, When I Think Of You, He Doesn't Even Know That I'm Alive and You Can Be Mine. This is my favorite Janet Jackson album because of the boldness of the messages and styles of the music in the album. The 2nd favorite Janet Jackson album is Rhythm Nation 1814.
    Other albums that have changed the culture for me are True Blue and Like A Virgin in addition to Like A Virgin by Madonna. I know that you focus on black artists but can you do a video on Madonna's eras and her impact on music and the culture please?

    • @ashleykaira
      @ashleykaira  Год назад +2

      That’s a really good idea. I am a Madonna stan so a video about her will definitely be coming. I briefly touched on her Ray of Light era in my hiatus video too.

      @@ashleykaira I see a lot of similarities between Janet and Madonna. They both came from the Midwest, a large family and they had controlling and strict fathers. The differences between them are that Janet's the youngest of the children and Madonna's the 3rd child of 8 siblings and the oldest daughter of the sisters. And Madonna was the first in the family to go to college but dropped out and the only one who became an international pop star and cultural icon among other things.
      I love both of them but l haven't been following Janet's music career for her since Damita Jo or Discipline album.
      As for Madonna I have been liking less and less of her music for the last 3 albums. I like a handful of songs from MDNA and Rebel Heart each. I only like a 2 songs from Madame X: Come Alive and Faz Gostoso.
      I a ticket for the January 15th 2024 SF show for Madonna's Celebration Tour. I'm gonna try to get a ticket for Janet's Together Again Tour in Mountain View, CA. If you go to any of their shows it would be great if you made a video about your experience of the show/s.

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis did help take her singing career to another level but Janet started her career at age 7 dancing and singing with her siblings in Las Vegas as well as her acting career at age 11. Prior to Janet she choreographed for the Jackson 5 their first video called “ Torture” then went on to choreograph their “Victory Tour” then she was referred to Janet. Then after she decided to record her first Album “ Forever Your Girl” which was the first Album to have 4 consecutives #1 Ever at that time.
