- In honor of women’s history month and the 20th anniversary of the fifth and final Destiny's Child album, Destiny Fulfilled, I wanted to revisit this iconic album and era from the trio (Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams) as I believe it is their most underrated and under-appreciated project. This was the first project I was really old enough to enjoy and appreciate, but for whatever reason I don’t see this album get as much love as their previous projects like Survivor or Writings on the Wall. So before we get started, don't forget to like this video and subscribe, grab your snacks, get comfortable as we a take a trip back to 2004 to relive the farewell era of Destiny's Child.

I feel like groups, particularly girl groups should take notes on how to bow out gracefully and how to end an era on great landing. Destiny Fulfilled is easily top 2 for me. The album is flawless from top to bottom. Destiny fulfilled really turns 20 this year lol.
I think so too but I feel like what’s missing is the genuine friendship between the ladies (other girl groups), which is the key element to having a successful run and bowing out gracefully. Destiny’s Child really set the standard and were the last of a dying breed unfortunately.

It really is their best work, and all members get to equally shine on the record which I absolutely LOVE
Not only that, other girl groups can take note of how to end a group and still remain Friends and outgrow the drama. The thing about kelly beyonce and michelle is that their friends first and group mates second. Not Hating on other female groups, But when they come together, it's like a business deal. With DC they come together cuz they enjoy it.

I think the problem is a lot of girl groups today are PUT together. They don't grow together. Shoving a bunch of random ladies together and putting them to work without letting some chemistry brew is always a bad idea, personalities and ideas clash, and because there's no connection a consensus isn't peacefully met.

@@ashleykaira man, I feel old, I was six years old when this album came out, I wasn’t a hard-core DC fan, but I knew that they were big though.
She’s in the middle on the album cover for that exact reason 🤭.

The Writings on the Wall was the album that made me fall in love with Destiny's Child, but Destiny Fulfilled is the album I keep coming back to. It was the perfect tie end to the group.

TWOTW is undoubtedly one of the most influential RnB/Pop records ever released but its production is so heavily tied into that late 90s/early 00s Timbaland,RodneyJerkins, Shekspere sound that it can feel more dated whereas a lot of the production on DF feels more timeless (GIRL, Free, IF, Is She The Reason etc) it's much easier to listen back and not feel like it's from 2004.

😞💔😞After having such a personal deeply heartbreak, from a guy who turned out to be a narcissist, along with emotionally abusive.😢😔😥I truly loved, & thought “loved” me, on-top of the devastating loss after a lengthy sickness right before Christmas.💔 Of my beloved adopted mom, during a Covid Surge, completely has shattered me, still has, & is. Been a personally dark heavy season of grief, heartache, sorrow, & pain.🥀😰💔 This album, was one of those out of many I’ve listened to while ongoing through the internal pain, grief, & so forth.😥😔😥 “Free” from this album, it is a definite top favorite of mine, the lyrics, spoke to alot of pain and hurt/betrayal by adopted family members in my beloved mom’s absence who’s behavior shifted for the worse in how I was treated. Amongst others, the Ex, certain so-called friends lots, of hurt, pain, darkness.💔 Love hearing Michelle Williams (Love her period) also shine more within this album, I have her book; “Checking In” as a treat to myself to try to heal while still in the depths of my heavy grief, dark depths of deep sadness, & pain.💔 As she’s openly vulnerably, if not, courageously bared her struggles despite her successes/fame. 🥺💜🥺Nevertheless I know my feedback is pretty lengthy, and I’m bearing myself openly. Great video/mini documentary breakdown of an incredible era of Destiny’s Child. This album is timeless despite all of these fabulous women’s individual success. 💐🌸💐 It was briefly refreshing to come across as I am in, a dark heavily grief emotional state.💔😥💔 Especially as my beloved adopted mom’s birthday is nearing,😰😭😰 #GriefTrulyHurts She will, “always” be the mom I never had I tremendously miss her, honestly don’t want to still be here on this ravaging planet without her, & the biological father I too barely knew. #Parentless 💔🌏😪 Again fantastic job, Ashley Kaira. 💜

My favorite songs from this album was "T-Shirt," "Through with Love," "If," "Bad Habit" and "Love" which was co-produced by Michelle's brother. Both Kelly and Michelle got to shine on this album.

Artists back day weren’t afraid to experiment and it always set them apart. Like you said, nowadays artists are so simple and do whatever to get a quick viral hit as opposed to creating timeless music.

This album has a special place in my heart 💓 It signifies the end of a beautiful era and their destiny as DC was truly fulfilled. Beyoncé became a global superstar, Kelly a Dance music Icon and Michelle a Gospel music Legend. I was 10 years old when this album came out, and now as a 30 year old woman I can relate to the lyrics having experienced heartbreak. My favourite songs are Cater 2 U, Free, T-Shirt, Through with love and Girl.

I'm a huge DC fan and this album is so underrated. I still listen to it. It's timeless. Even the bonus tracks are incredible. Michelle's verses on Game Over and Gots My Own are flawless.

As a 24 yo destiny fulfilled was the first album I remember going to Walmart and telling my mom to buy it for me lol. I only listened to the popular songs but then in high school I listened to the entire album for the first time and was in love😩The fashion and videos in this era definitely captivated me. And they still do. I couldn’t wait to dress like them when I grew up😂

I’ll say this, Destiny Fulfilled was and is deemed DC’s most mature and grown album. Folks still are talking about this album in 2024. We will definitely see another collaboration in some form in the future.
I really hope so. It’ll be a huge disservice to this project if they don’t honor its 20th anniversary in some way.

Destiny Fulfilled aged so so so well… I remember when it came out and it was so fresh and all the ladies got some shine on it, vocally. I’ve been a fan since Writings - it was my first CD! Haha - and I love and grew up with all their albums but Fulfilled definitely has a special mark.

Beehive member here, I remember this entire era like it was yesterday! They really promoted this album with appearances & performances everywhere. That "Lose My Breathe" TRL performance was lit! The marching band, the crowd, the Roberto Cavalli drip, it was everything! The "Soldier" collab with the T.I. and Wayne was a surprise and it worked. The Bet Awards really boasted the "Cater 2 U" song, because everyone was talking about it. "Girl" was cute, I enjoyed that S3x and The City theme. It was like watching a tv show. That one part on "Free" when they harmonize was nice! "Love" and "Game Over" are still on my playlist. Destiny Fulfilled is a great album and in some ways reminds me of SWVs New Beginning album. It’s insane how pretty much each song has its own memorable moment. That is very hard to do and is a testament to the love they gave each song and how well received it was from the fans.

i grew up on this album it came out when i was a baby but my mom LOVED IT. you know it’s one thing to just enjoy music once you’re younger but when you finally understand once you get older? the music sounds better.
It hits different as an adult. It aged incredibly well.

Underrated classic
Omg yes - thank you for bringing light to this album - it really is a masterpiece. I hadn't even been aware of the concepts and sequence of themes being so carefully planned - but that's so cool! They were so intentional and brought depth and meaning. But what always had me was the music, the melodies, the lyrics and defs the sisterhood energy. This album was on repeat when i went through my roughest breakup. It's so uplifting to women. And I can look past "cater 2 u"...it was the era and it's so fun to sing along to. And even though we might not wish to emulate the details of that song these days, I think the notion behind it that once you find a man to be safe and surrender to, it's nice and you want to pour your love.
Yesss they were so intentional and their goal was accomplished by creating a realistic narrative of the highs and lows of a relationship. It makes sense why it resonated so much with people and that’s a testament of their artistry and sisterhood. And I love your point about Cater 2 U, it definitely makes sense.

That DVD CD lived and still does live rent free in my mind. They were the first artist I had ever heard sing, perform, and watched live (on CD). They were the only artist I knew until Sophomore, until I came to know Mariah Carey😂

Great video, I had no clue they wrote that much on this album. This is one of my fav albums from them it’s so cohesive and the harmonies. A great era and it definitely aged well except for cater 2 u for obvious reasons. I still love the video for it tho.

destiny fulfilled is just as old as i am (a little older than me) and its absolutely my personal top 2 albums from the group. that album is so intricate and deep from top to bottom. sometimes i wish i wasn’t born so late bc i never got to experience the greatness that is DC.
Righhht!! That’s why I hope the give us new music one day so that the younger generation would be able to experience their greatness first hand. I was super young too, to really enjoy it when it came out.
This album is my favorite album of all time. It's been over 20 years and I wear this album out just like it was yesterday. This album help me out so much through a breakup because I literally felt my life playing out through this cd. I love how this album told a story about the ups/downs of a relationship that we all have went through. Beyonce era from this time to Bday is her best. She gave us everything. Her body, looks, aesthethic, just everything. Lose My Breath is her/their peak video. Bey & Kelly left everything on the floor when it comes to choreography. Their NFL Performance from that era also top tier, personally better than Bey solo NFL Halftime. That era was just fucking everything.

thank you for this. this album was also the first one i truly followed because i was old enough and it felt so good to going back at it. i think that what will forever make DC one the best girl group (if not the best) ever is the bond between the girls. these women really loved each other and we don’t have that with the recent ones like 5th Harmony.
Right!! The bond they had for one another is a true sisterhood and their closeness poured out into the music which is why we have this classic album.

Man, this album was apart of a WONDERFUL time in R&B history. A lot of great music . I have so many favorite songs on this album but hands down my favorite is Game Over . One if my favorite songs of all times .It damn near brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it as soon as the beat comes on. It’s so sultry and nostalgic sounding. It’s the ultimate summer love song .

Destiny Fulfilled is a masterpiece. I’m not sure why it’s not heralded as such. From the writing to the vocals, you can tell a lot went into this project. I argue there hasn’t been a better r&b group album since. My fav 3: Love, Through With Love, & If. Thank you for making this video!

TWOTW was my first cassette tape. Survivor made me a stan but out of all their album, DF is my favorite. It’s a concept album & there aren’t a lot of those out today. My favorites are Solider, Free, & Is she the reason
Yes, artists these days hardly create well executed concept albums like this. True artistry is missing nowadays.
This album was the soundtrack to my life when it was released. 19 years old and living on my own, I thought I was the ‘ish lol😂

i love love love the fact that you talked about this album. this album has a special place in my heart. i fell to beyonce with crazy in love and introduced to DC by this album (i know, weird timeline). but i looooovee this unit wholeheartedly. and this album is so amazing and cohesive and such great body of work. my faves includes the whole singles, but my most fave one was and is always bad habit. it's so beautiful the way kelly sang it and i still listen to the song daily till now. trust. and even before all crazy internet frenzy i knew that girl and bad habit talking about kelly's real struggle. i didnt do any research back then.. i just knew

I loved this album it showcase grown women status and my favorite songs on the album is mostly songs that weren’t singles like If, T shirt, is she the reason, Through with love, and love but I also love Cater 2 you , Girl and Lose my breath
