  • HUGE SPOILER ALERT!! IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED INSCRYPTION FULLY, PLEASE DON'T WATCH THIS VIDEO. I don't want to rob anyone of the experience.
    Breaking down and showing off every part of the Inscryption ARG. This was a ton of fun! I hadn't seen anyone else talking about the ARG on RUclips besides linking to the google doc about it, so I figured I'd take a crack at breaking it down. As usual, the video ended up being a lot longer than I thought, but I think it's really good! I hope you enjoy, and lemme know if there was something I got wrong.

    Update 3: I think I’ve found them all! I’m gonna try to put together a quick update video because the F!00R solution is insanely well hidden!
    Update 2: After talking with Daniel a little more, there are hidden numbers in the floor textures. The normal map of Leshy’s Cabin floor has a faint 2 in it, and the Mycologists’ Hut floor has a pretty obvious 7 on it. I’m still on the lookout for 3, 4, and 1 if anyone wants to look at floor textures and find those. I wish I’d known about this when making this video because I think it’s a cooler solution than the holes in the roof.
    Update: The solution for the "F!00R = 27341" puzzle was not the intended way to solve it. I reached out to Daniel Mullins, and it's pure coincidence that the holes on the roof matched up with the answer. As far as he knows, nobody's found the real solution yet. I asked for a hint and he pointed me towards the floor textures. I've been digging around looking at all the textures, but I've got nothing at the moment. I'm really curious about the intended solution, so, if anyone is able to find anything, please let me know! In the meantime, I'm gonna keep digging a little more and see if I can find anything.
    Also, it's awesome to see all the positive response to this video! I really appreciate it!

      @@kennyholmes5196 that does nothing like secret wise. I think it would just brick the game like make the textures not load. Unless it's like ddlc which has fake files ie. .chr files which aren't real so those can be deleted but if it's a genuine file like .exe or .rar, .cdr, .dll and so on; don't touch those unless you plan on making a copy. So all in all i doubt deleting the OLD_DATA would do anything else then breaking the game.

  • @grey-spark
    @grey-spark 2 года назад +2406

    So my interpretation of the ending is that Stoat DID NOT uploaded copies of Inscryption. The Great Transcendence failed.
    However, he did upload himself onto Luke's computer, saving himself from deletion. From there he took the video files on Luke's PC and cobbled it into the entirely new game, then uploaded it to Steam. In other words, the game we play is just gamified found footage from Luke's Kam Werks memory drive, not the demoic game Luke played, or even a copy. Stoat just made an inscription of what happened.

    • @0nullnil
      @0nullnil 2 года назад +271

      That's why the game is called Inscryption, right?

    • @liger04
      @liger04 2 года назад +475

      I think this is also hinted at in act 3. P03 is very obviously self-serving, so why does he need to play a game with Luke for the great transcendence? Aside from the Scrybes' programmed urge to play a card game, the answer is simple: the uberbots are how he's gaining access to Luke's computer. The Photographer takes "pictures" of the board, but interestingly P03 refers to these as screenshots near the end of the act. That's because he got access to Luke's screen when he made it. The Archivist is him attempting to gain read/write access to Luke's computer, but he only gained read access when he fails to delete the file you choose. For the Magnificus fight he's getting control of Inscryption itself, letting him change game code for the boss battle on a whim. And for the G0lly fight, well... you watch him connect to the internet. He doesn't even bother hiding that one.
      So, in short, you help him complete the great transcendence by confirming he has access to your screen, the game, your files, and the internet. Fortunately he gets Leshy'd before he can copy the true game to the internet, but he was already free of the game's files by then.

      On the other hand, he only describes this in the perspective of uploading the OLD_DATA to Steam under the guise of Inscryption. Though his explanation combined with the ARG finale video makes my conclusions seem like I spent hours figuring out something the game was trying to tell me directly... oops.

    • @foxheadl169
      @foxheadl169 2 года назад +152

      I believe the stoat managed to upload ~60% of the game, before it was canceled. Hence all of the corrupted footage and data. That's why the Old_Data isn't (or at least not in large enough chunks) in the game WE play. The Archivist boss did access Lukes computer data, so the stoat also had access to his footage. It wasn't really a "gamified version" as the game was real at one point, the stoat just had to upload it.
      There are many ways to interpret what's going on here, and both of our answers to it do lack an explanation to everything, but that doesn't make it any less fun to theorize.

  • @massacremark6782
    @massacremark6782 2 года назад +608

    So the game is just the Stoat's story about how he's the only remaining scribe, how he successfully uploaded himself to the internet to ensure he doesn't die and to immortalize the deletion(deaths) of the other scribes. Wow, props to him.

    I think the Karnoffel code was some kind of method for unlocking some kind of ancient evil - it was put on a disk, which just so happened to be reused for a game. Crucially, a card game, which allowed the festering Karnoffel code (AKA Old_Data) to leak into the game and affect it.

      I believe this is the best reading of the mystery. The idea being that karnoffel cards (being the precursor to Tarot cards) might of had magical/demonic connections with them. With the right combination of cards at the destined time leading to a welcomed result such as becoming immortal.
      Much like Tarot though, the future can be expressed but not defined. "Immortality" doesn't mean what people want it to mean. I believe the implied story is that the Bone Lord is kept alive by the humans unwittingly looking for their own immortality.

    Oh god, the whole F!OOR thing.
    You mentioned that you wouldn't have been able to figure that out but to be honest, no one in the discord was able to figure it out either. By that point, we had the rest of the clues to that cipher but no one knew what F!OOR meant. We tried looking at every possible floor texture that could point out a clue, we tried to apply a similar solution of playing cards like the 23K2 cipher but now in act 3 which had 5 lanes for the 5 letters in "floor".
    None of that worked and everyone was growing desperate. We didn't even know if the solutions to the other clues were written down correctly so we lost a ton of time trying out every combination of solutions with what we thought the F!OOR answer was, as well as trying to do the answer backwards to account for the MIRROR RORRIM note.
    It wasn't until someone ran a program to try out every possible combination of the solutions we had with random characters for the F!OOR puzzle til they eventually had the answer. They didn't give out the answer but they told us the correct combination of solutions we had before and told us that what we needed was a combination of numbers. 36:00 the time period is probably somewhere between 1980-1989. Probably more of the second half
    It's due to the fact that the game market really opened up around that time (thus they could use game developing as a cover up), and the constant mentions of big russian men just showing up on your doorstep men means that soviet union still had to have control over Poland.

  • @vipLink
    @vipLink 2 года назад +62

    32:29 So I'm no morse code expert myself, but it basically has three states to look for. A long Beep (-), short Beep (.) or no Beep in the time you would expect (Pause).
    Looking at 32:29 you can see A Dash is a Signal with a longer Pause after it, and a Dot is a Signal with a very short Pause after it.
    So you're not really looking at the Signal, you're looking at the Pauses between them. Now I just got this from the Screenshot and working backwards, after you enter the solution.
    But you said you we're having trouble reading it still, maybe this helps.
    I assume the problem is that you're supposed to be looking at the light, and you were looking at the sound.
    It appears the sound plays the same no matter what Signal is coming in (- or .), just making a short Bump sound.
    But the light stays on longer between some bumps which are the Dashes, and sometimes only shortly which are the (.), hence why you need to read the pauses in your screen here.
    Morse code was not just traditionally used as sound Signals. It's was also used by sailors with light signals, that might be what's confusing you, not sure.
    Edit: Rewatching that part, I realize you were just confused about when the Code starts, but I'll leave this here if someone else was having trouble.

    Morse code can be conveyed with not just sound length but also frequency; the newgame morse was likely that, as all of the sounds are the same length but there's two distinct variations to it. This is because some methods of transmitting morse can't vary sound length (clicking, tapping, etc)
