This video is a review of Jacqueline Woodson' s "Feathers", a slice of life middle grade book set in the 1970's America. A book that asked complicated questions.
Great review! Its been a while since I read a book... I should start reading again
I recommend that you start with "Feathers"! It's an easy read and really deep.
Very good review! Very thorough! I love how you talked about human kindness.
Thank you! Human kindness was handled so well in this book, so had to discuss it :-) Thank you for watching!
I love how much Woodson you’ve been reading lately! I like the sound of the beginning of things becoming less segregated and how the children are handling it. I agree - children are a lot smarter than a lot of people give them credit for and I love seeing that reflected in books and writing. It covers so many topics as well! Brown Girl Dreaming had a similar “slice of life” style.
Ms. Woodson has been becoming my new favorite author, so it's hard not to cover her work in videos; I'm glad you enjoy it! And I agree, it's also pretty rare to find a book that doesn't (for lack of a better term) dumb down kids in books. It is amazing to see a more nuanced portrayal. I felt that the slice of life aspect made all the themes flow into each other very naturally :-) And I plan on reading "Brown Girl Dreaming" this month!
Great description of the book. Will have to make a list of books to check out. This will be on it. Thanks for sharing!
Ernesto UnderdoggTV Thank you so much! "Feathers" is also just about 120 pages so it's a quick read :-) And hope you like the book too! Thank you for commenting!
Amazing review of this book. Never heard of it but seems like a really great book. With deafness. It’s not a disability. It’s an inability to hear. Many people, generally, don’t know how to interact with someone with a “disability” other than norm. It’s crazy. I’m a Sign Language Interpreter. All these injustices still is crazy. Human kindness needs to be more. Great job!
Nay's Days Thank you so much! And that's so cool your an interpreter! It's sad people lack the knowledge how to interact with people with inabilities. I agree, we need more kindness like the sort I found in the book. Thank you so much for commenting!
Really good thorough explanation and real good explanation of the book. I'm not a book reader myself except when it comes to book that are made from real stories :)
Nonfiction you mean? I'm trying to get into that genre myself :-)
Thank you so much!
Try "Forget you had a daughter", its really good.
Will do! Thank you for the recommendation!
Interesting review! I never heard of this author/book but this one sounds quite interesting! Thanks for sharing~
Thank you! Jacqueline Woodson is a fantastic author, I definately recommend checking her work out :-) Thank you for watching!
Great review ❤
Thank you!
Loved the review ! Wanted to get back into reading maybe I should start with this 🤔
Thank you kindly! If you are just getting back into reading, "Feathers" is a good start, since it's a short book and a quick but powerful read!
Towards the end of your review, it touched me. Human kindness is something I’ve definitely stopped believing in for the most part. In terms of your topic, it gave me some ‘hope’ 😂 nice review
I should look into more book reviews:)
Aw, I'm so happy to hear that! And I understand, it is very hard to believe in kindness in today's world, I often feel like Humans are just the worst - "Feathers" was in that way very uplifting to me, so I'm happy the hope it gave me was passed on
Interesting type of read. Maybe I could relate to it. Great review.
It's a very moving book, and I'm sure you'll relate to it! Thank you so much!
Very nice review. I can't get myself to read such books (or watch sad movies, for that reason. I am too sensitive, and usually break down and can't continue.) So, reviews like these make it easy for me.
This book is actually not sad at all! It's in fact very moving and makes you believe that people are good at heart, despite missteps.
It's good to be sensitive, it means you are empathetic
Good review, Appreciated ~ from South Korea !
great review
Thank you!
