    A minor bump to the head is highly unlikely to cause a concussion. It takes a significant amount of force for a concussion to occur. Here are some reasons why you might be feeling like a minor bump to the head has caused a concussion, though. This question came from a live Instagram Q & A that was done on January 29, 2020.

    This was helpful, for someone who's had a concussion in the past, every little bump to my head I can feel anxious about so this was reassuring that I don't need to super overthink the little bumps

      It's usually not your head it's your neck the top bone is misaligned and any small bump causes it to irritate the vagus nerve. I would see an upper cervical care doctor like NUCCA and get x rays done they can fix the problem. This guy won't tell you about them for some reason.

    Love this video. Here I am as a physicist trying to calculate whether I got a concussion and turns out I think it’s my neck from a true hard hit not some weakly little head bump

    I just found your page and your videos are so helpful! I have had PCS since I was in a car accident last year. One of my only symptoms are headaches. I was doing MUCH better but accidentally slipped running up a muddy hill recently and my symptoms came back :(. Both during the car accident and the slip I didn't even hit my head (I caught myself with my wrists), the force alone (acceleration-deceleration) was apparently enough to concuss me.

    • @juliahalkey3205

      After listening to this though I asked my doctor if maybe for these symptoms I can try neck physical therapy for the whiplash instead of more medications! My neurologist agreed that would probably be a great idea for circulation to my head and help soothe these headaches! So I just wanted to say thank you!!!

    What if you get a subconcussive impact a couple days after a concussion? Don’t subconcussive impacts cause slight damage as well, so can’t they exacerbate the concussion?

    I fell backwards into the bathwatds into the bathtub hitting my head twice on the back wall causing a call. I chose not to go to the hospital. 4 44ks later I fell from my walker unto a cement walk hitting my spine & banhing my head on the cement as well.
    A ct scan proved I had a brain bleed.
    It is now a complete 4 months later and still have concussion symptoms. I also have Associative Identity bDisorder. What can I expect as far as recovery!

    You said that minor bumps after a concussion are not enough to cause another one and I agree. However you acknowledged that you are more vulnerable to concussions in the first few weeks, so can a small hit cause another concussion during this recovery period. How much force would that theoretically take?

  • @neobooger
    @neobooger 2 года назад +2

    So I’m clear you are saying that even if you have had a diagnosis of concussion it will still take the same high level of force, 70-100 G’s to create another concussion? You wouldn’t be more susceptible to concussion after the fist therefore requiring lower forces to trigger another one?

    6 weeks later after a concussion and I’m still going through symptoms. Not as bad but occasionally have had major pressure in my sinuses. I have “tapped” my head during this time. Is this hurting me?

    Even just driving in a car makes my symptoms way worse. Every bump in the road messes me up. How can I ever heal if even just riding in a car exacerbates my symptoms? Every bump is a sub concussive hit for me. It’s been 3.5 years. I can’t just not ride in a car for years. This disease sucks so fucking bad.

    I walked into a door pretty hard. My forehead and knee took the brunt of the impact. Most definitely resulted in a headache and I'm hoping not a concussion. Thoughts?

    Dr. Cameron, is a “ little bump “, that causes the same symptoms concussion, would you consider those sub-concussive hits if they caused symptoms?
    Also , are uneven pupils ( with nausea , tiredness) from a little minor hit or bump to same side that got injured, which would not normally do anything prior to initial injury be of concern or the same a what your talking about in the video ?
    Wish you were in my area. Thank you

    • @CompleteConcussions
      @CompleteConcussions  2 года назад

      What is a "sub-concussive" hit? Well it's anything that does not cause concussion. A light tap on your head is technically a sub-concussive hit...so the problem is in the definition and we have no good evidence that "sub-concussive" hits matter at all. So I think you're getting hung up on a fancy scary word that really doesn't mean anything. Small bumps don't cause concussion and we have no good evidence that they injure the brain - it's all speculation at this point. Again, your best bet is to check out the Concussion Fix program! I am in everyone's area through that program :)

      @@CompleteConcussionsThis is the point that makes me suspicious about the data that 70-120 G’s are required for concussion. I’m pretty sure most KO punches don’t cause as much acceleration (a quick google says that a pro boxer’s punch causes the head to accelerate 53 G’s). What are your thoughts on this?

    • @CompleteConcussions
      @CompleteConcussions  2 года назад

      @@Ollieng6 Yes - for a jab. Linear acceleration requires 70-120G for concussion (according to bulk of evidence). Now, when you look at a hook, the rotational acceleration does surpass concussion thresholds (about 5500 rad/s2). This is why you're much more likely to be KO'd by a hook than a jab.

    I accidentally hit the to of my head on a car door with a helmet on this weekend. The hit wasn’t pretty hard. It was at least a minor bump. It doesn’t mean I will get a concussion?
