CHALLENGING CAMP on SCAFELL- Lords Rake West Wall Traverse Lake District UK with a dog Scafell Pike

- EPIC WILD CAMP WITH DAVID McCENTEE
As an experienced hiker but a novice to the Lake District, I planned a challenging route for Dave and I, led by Blue. We summit Scafell Pike along the Corridor route and then proceed along to Scafell up the unforgiving Lord’s Rake and the West Wall Traverse for a camp. A pleasure spending time with the nicest guy you’ll meet who has an abundance of positivity like myself.
Please check out his channel and his video of our trip which is mint😉

AWESOME!! What an amazing trip this was Al, thanks again for taking me out here - I can't wait for our next adventure! 😎
EDIT: It's so cool to see this trip from your perspective! Epic stuff mate🥳
Yes loved it mate! It’s definitely nice to see both side and types of filming. Epic!
Your friend's look really friendly, he is smiling all the time, true positive energy.
He is a lovely lad👍
Great video, as always. I’ll definitely checkout DAVE’s stuff. Cheers ATB
Yes he’s a good lad and loves to learn👍. Thanks Al
Hello Fella, just wanted to say a big thank you! From someone like myself who dreams of exploring our beautiful country but has been unwell with mental health for several years, you have given me so much positivity. Bless you and your beautiful dog blue!! Xxx Helen x
Thank you Helen. I’m so glad we are helping people like yourself even if just a teeny bit. It’s all about being positive 👍
Keep that positivity going Helen. One step at a time. ❤️
Top stuff lads, good to see friendships made from the Rab weekend. That looked like a brilliant route up Scafell, which incidentally is a finer mountain than it's bigger brother.
Yes we will have to get out at some point pal👊
@@BUSHMANandBLUE 💯 mate 👍🏻
Ab-so-lute-ly lovely!
😂 thanks
Hello mate, I was in one of the Lanshan 2's :D We did Scarfell Pike the following day after descending to Wasdale Head. Love the content, keep it up.
Ace mate! Shame we never got to chat👍👍
Nice partnership. I am doing mt Blanc in august so I have been following his vids.
Good ladzzzz
Brilliant pal good luck with it all and let me know how you get on👍
Blue is a trooper! Wise on many levels to not go solo on this one. Gorgeous 👍
He is pretty incredible at these adventures 😉
You guys are amazing
Fantastic video but I’m not surprised 😆 The vistas are amazing 😊 David reminds me of my son, looks around the same age and always smiling ☺️ Thanks Al for another great video 👍
Yes he’s a lovely lad and nice to be getting out on these adventures at his age. Many never do.
Good to see you're a craft beer fan now mate 😁 Nice looking tent that and great pack size. Top adventure and great collab. ATB 🏕️👍
Cheers Chris. I’m on the big hitting beers now mate. You’ve set a large stone rolling😂😂😂
Stunning. Simply stunning. And what a dog! I thought my collie was obedient but Blue is on another level.
He’s pretty good! It’s helps us keep safe up there 👍
Epic trip! Really enjoyed watching that!
Great video mate, I was in one of them lanshans 😂
Thanks mate I’m glad you’ve found the channel. Welcome!
Another great video Al, looked like a great adventure.😍😍👌
Love the vids fella 😊
Well done phil great video 👍thanks for sharing.
Outstanding Al, cracking video.
Excellent video, definitely will be giving this a go 👌🏼
Brilliant thanks for a new video 👍
Cracking video guys, and what a cracking route. Keep up the great work 🍻👍
Thanks Marc 👍
Another awesome video, really looking forward to the next part!
The next one should be good👌
Another hour of top quality entertainment 👌. The last 10 years have been all about cycling and road running for me Al but you've inspired me over the last few months to slow the pace down a bit and do some hiking. I've done a handful of local walks and wild camps here in East Yorkshire but I'm finally heading over to the Lakes on the 24th with 30 miles of hiking planned and a couple of nights in the tent, I can't wait! #no1youtuber
Yea that’s pretty much me. I always run and ride hard so I never take any of the scenery it just push my body. It’s worth slowing it down here and there 😉
Two adventurers …double the joy. Thanks again Al, I’m on my way to check out Dave’s channel. 😊
Thanks Tracy. I’m sure you’ll enjoy hod positivity 👌
Thoroughly enjoyed this! Apart from the actual journey I loved seeing Dave’s face full of joy and wonder. Brilliant! I watched his video of the trip and the drone episode was absolutely classic. Awesome work Al, thank you 💜
Thanks Toni. I love taking people to see these places and to see their joy. He’s a top lad.
Great video al! I was in the Scarfel range a couple day after you filmed this and the weather was perfect! Copied your route from last year and got myself up great gable, green gable, round how and great end, it was amazing!!! Cheers mate.
Awesome mate! On a good day it’s incredible taking in all that scenery. 👍👍👍
....2 peas in a poddddaaaaaa!! As Laurel and Hardy said! :-)
Great trek, the route up Scafell was so interesting, thanks for showing it to everyone.
I'm now going to read Wainwright's description of the route from my recently acquired 50th anniversary set of books bought from Amazon for the give away price of just £27!
An absolute bargain!
Excellent! An interesting man. It is a great route up there and the best views from the top.
Another masterpiece video what brilliant viewing. Magnificent scenery and a great companion to have alongside you. Of course not forgetting the Wonder Dog Blue. All the best Cheers here’s to the next one. B. K
Thanks Brian as always. Nice to have some company 👌
well done lads good video
Nice video beautiful views as always thanks for sharing:)
Enjoyed this video Al. I sat outside at 10pm drinking Belgian beer whilst watching. Set me up nicely for my mini adventure during the week as preparation for my multi day hike in the lakes in July. Thanks again!
Interesting! Half the fun is packing your kit and planning😉
Brilliant video this one AL, you, dave and blue have had a great time there. Loved seeing you in my neck of the woods and even more so doing my favourite route up my favourite mountain. New tent looks just the trick for summer adventures too, look forward to the next part 🤙
Cheers Si. Patreon camp soon up that way maybe. Oh can plan a spot 👍👍👍
@@BUSHMANandBLUE brilliant mate, if I'm available I'll be there. So many places, I know lots of places to walk but as you know I've only just started camping this year so you probably know more places to camp. Lot will depend on how many folk are on it as to the area you'd need eh 👌🤙
What a great collaboration Al, fabulous edit as always. I was in that area only last night on what was my third wild camp. I was planning a Scafell Pike loop but the weather came in. So spent the night at Springkling Tarn and the weather sure tested my kit. I am pretty sure I recognise the tarn from one of your early vids. As always thank you for the inspiration 🙏👍👊
Ace mate I’m glad you’re getting out there and testing the kit👍. Still a lovely spot there though👊
Absolutely epic, my favourite by far 👍
Awwww thanks😊
Great vid as usual, I'm already subbed to David. That route looked challenging but so worth it! ATB 👧&🐕
Thank you. Dave’s channel is really good. He puts the effort in👌
Another epic adventure Al 👍 👍 loved the views and Drone footage spectacular video way to go very enjoyable Thanks for that. Be safe out there my friend ✌️
Thanks Norm. Great to be out with some company too👍
Brilliant !!!!!
Good 1 there Al ...and a good colab with Dave👍🏻👍🏻 That hidden path upto top looks amazing if not a little sketchy 🤣🤣
It’s not too bad but all the way up it feels pretty epic as you get to see out at the mountain opposite 👍
cracking video Al and Dave
lords rake.? im avin some of that.!
looking forward to part two .
Thanks for the views and Blues.😎👍
Cheers mate. Yes it’s an awesome route up. 👊
I saw this on Dave's Channel. Nice to see your take on the Hike. New Subscriber here from Stafford.
Welcome mate. Yes Dave is a good lad👍
Perfect start to a working day again down this end Al. Freezing temps and a snowstorm just blowing through from Ozzie.... A few more weeks and we'll be up your neck of the woods!!! ✈. Great vid as always lad.. Love your work!!!
Thanks mate I’m glad you are skiving work to watch it😂. Yes when you arrive let me know as you never know we might get chance to meet. 👍
Excellent hike & video. That eternal struggle of too warm, too cold resonates with me. I use the general rule “ if you are warm at the parking lot, you are wearing too much.” Start off chilly & warm up as you go. Add / lose layers as appropriate just as you did. Beautiful countryside.
Definitely that! Thanks Stew
Great video and amazing views as always! 😍
I didn’t make the views😂 but they are pretty epic👍
Great video Al on your smileofest. Just recently been on a 3 nighter but after watching this it looks like I'll be packing my sack very soon. Thanks for taking us all along.
Definitely mate keep getting out there👌
I love your vlogs! This one showed incredible scenery, I used to know Dartmoor well and its nothing compared to those tors lol. Incredible.
I started watching your ones cos I have a blue merl Collie so like Blue but she was less lucky. One wall eye and born deaf. She has the same wonderful smiley face those lol. I stayed cos I do love all the beautiful rugged scenery!
Thanks for showing this incredible place!!
Thanks buddy I’m glad you appreciate the adventures. Collies are the best👌
Superb,😊loved watching you two,you must pair up and do some more.
Well I have the second part to come and it’s good as we answer some questions from subscribers👍👍👍
Stunning vid as always.
Atb Graham
Top video Alan good to see collaborations with fella you tubers great gully hike the west part is nice one 👏👏👏👍
Thanks mate. Yes it’s nice to meet people who get the effort put in to making videos. He’s a top lad👍
I joke about the blue crue thing... but at 26:00 ish he comes around like "I like this place, he is putting his stuff down... can we?" then he comes over to take his pack off when you do. It always makes me laugh. Fills me with joy is the phrase. But no seriously... great videos you are inspiring me to put together a little camping rig and get out there... eventually. Haha. Nice one man :D.
He’s definitely in tune with the whole camping thing and making camp. 🥰
i love your channel mate, cant get enough of your videos,,,,keep them coming
Cheers mate I’m glad you’re enjoying it👊
It was great to meet you & David at the start of your walk from Seathwaite. Had I started out later I'd still have had the wind on Great Gable as well, obviously 😊
Awwwww nice meeting you too. A lovely day to be out 😬👌
I think this is one of my many favourite climbs of yours. When you got to the top the views were indescribable. It felt as you could almost touch heaven. It was good to see you with human company and of course the lovely Blue was doing his usual mountain goat impression ❤️
Great route up to the summit and great to be out with good company 👍👍👍
Another great film Al. Always look forward to Sunday evening, highlight of the week 😊
😂😂😂 is that cos it’s bath night😂
@@BUSHMANandBLUE haha rumbled me
I said to you on your last trip up Lords Rake, take a look at the west wall traverse
It’s a lovely way up and Dave loved it too👊
@@BUSHMANandBLUE Keep up the good work. Have you ever been to the Italian Dolomites? If not you would love the place.
When i lived in the Lakes, I used to take friends up Jacks rake over Harrison Stickle. Then nip over loft crag and down under Gimmer Crag. Great mountain feel.
28k subscribers get in well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 keep up the great content 👍🏻
Thanks buddy 👊
Great channel you've got, loving your walking companion 👍
Thanks mate👊
Hi Alan dave blue that was so much beautiful scenery and fun thank you love our camp🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you. It was an awesome night out👌
Awesome video Al. Dave seems like a great bloke too! I did a very similar route to this a week ago starting from seatoller. Went up side of piers gill and up lords rake/ Westwall traverse and managed to pitch near the summit as winds were ok. Next day I went down to slight side then across to scafell pike via foxes tarn. Lingmell down corridor route to styhead then up great gable via climbers traverse across to green gable, brandreth and camped next to haystacks on green crag 2nd night found a slightly sheltered spot as wind gusts were 40mph+ and rain. Hard work with 18kg backpack but had a Fantastic time just myself and the mountains. Made watching this video even better as I’ve just experienced it myself. A lot of the inspiration to get out there is from watching your videos so thanks!
Great route mate and definitely a challenge even with out the backpack. It’s nice knowing others are getting out on these types of adventures. You’ll know exactly the feeling you get from it👊👊👊
We also did it from Seathwaite but avoided lords rake, so not sure which route we took??!!! I know the footpath had a lot of cobbled stones, wrecked my hubbies feet
The Lakes are stunning arent they. Great video of 2 happy chaps in their element sharing their journeys for the benefit of others. What’s not to like about you two. Btw couldn’t see how far in the distance the tent was away from you when you introduced it as it looked so tiny 😂 Cheers both & Blue 🐾🙏👍
😂 yes it’s a small tent. We were definitely in our element 👍
Great video as always Al. Super hike that is, and i remember you doing it last time too and it looks tough. What a nice young man Dave is. I have subscribed to his channel and will catchup with his adventures. Thank you once more and give that wonderful Blue a big fuss for me please?
Thanks Maggi. He is a lovely lad and deserves some more subscribers 😉👍
@@BUSHMANandBLUE agreed. 😁
Well what a smile David has not that you haven’t Al great vid mate love blue recently lost our Harry gutted but watching blue helps epic trip cheers
Yes he’s a happy lad out on the fells. I think we all are😬. Sorry to here of your dog pal. Keep those memories safe👍👍👍
I follow both of you and now you hike together... so so cool!
😊 awwwww thanks Linda
Another cracking video. Kudos to you for filming and sharing your adventures, its one thing to wild camp but to film it all and edit to this standard is another level. I wild camp in the lakes myself, you can't beat it, good luck with the channel, it's one of the best out there.
Thanks mate. I’ll always try to keep the content to a decent standard and interesting. Im glad you appreciate the effort it takes👊
hi big Al, seen you do this before, but still great. the scenery, photography great. stay safe👍
Cheers Tom👌
Mateee, I’m commenting at 24:31, not even finished the video because that west wall traverse was epic. Bluey Dog leading the way.
Absolutely love these adventures
Stay safe mate
😂 glad you enjoyed it pal👊
awesome 👌
What a stunning location . It's like a mini Scottish Highlands . At least you got a clear day on top .
It’s an amazing place as you never really see any houses or roads 👍
Fantastic video mate, yet to do that route but it looks awesome, and it's probably steeper than it looks on video! Love the drone work, the place is effing epic, I have more of a appreciation for it from the view of other people's photos and videos, when I'm there I'm just walking, head down, blowing out my arse.
Top job mate, you still feeling the buzz from that 11% haha..that's heavy that🍺🏞🤘
😂 you best get fitter then so you can enjoy it more😂. That beer is 👌
That was a great watch, I loved your new terra nova tent, but I've gotta be honest, I'm not sure you'll use that more than 4 times more, for you and Blue I think it's a bit small, I seriously hope I'm wrong and it becomes your go too tent for the summer and autumn this year, it is so light for even a 1 man tent. No wonder you could carry a kg of milk for your granola 😊.
Enough of me trying to sound like a professional lol 😆.
You had great weather and the views were as good as it gets, I hope you didn't wake up after your spicy chilli regretting it 😀. I can't wait for your next wild camp 😜 🤙👍
Thanks mate. It’s a brilliant tent for lightweight backpacking. I think I’ll get it out on the bike too👍. Not big enough for me and blue in wet weather though.
I’m fairly large - 6’5” / 118kg and really struggle with tents as I hike with my 42kg dobie. I now use my Crux Assault and love it.
Nice little tent 👍
Brilliant video. Stunning scenery. Been hiking on the Jurassic coast today so this video was a perfect end to the day. Thanks to you and Dave.
Wow you think you’d have had enough of the outdoors mate today😂😂😂
@@BUSHMANandBLUE ha never can get enough of it! Always need a large dose of the outdoors before the working week starts! Thanks for the videos.
Omg what beautiful surroundings, I literally had no idea that hills and valleys like this even existed in England!!!
Blue looked completely in his element, the connection that you two have is truly beautiful to watch it's clear just how much he loves you ❤️❤️❤️
I don't know if blue will do this for you but when you take him out and pay him loads of attention, does he come up to you later on that night and cuddle up to you and give you kisses I ask because I see so much of Fin in Blue and I'm sure it is a collies way of thanking you for a good day 🤔😎👍
Take care of each other m8 absolutely gorgeous to watch the pair of u together 😍
Darren and Mr Fin 👍❤️
Thanks Darren. He periodically comes up and has that ‘thank you’ vibe to say I’m loving this. Great to have a companion like him on a mountain👍👍👍
I feel like I’m getting ready to watch the movie “The 10 Commandments” with the music at the beginning. Ha! Keep up the great work.
😂 nearly worthy of the music😂
I was up Scafell pike as well this week with my dog. I wasn’t as lucky with the weather though, couldn’t see a thing for the rain and mist. Good excuse for a revisit though soon!
It’s a different place when you can see up there👌
Just started hiking looking at your videos gives me a lot of information thank and your videos are awesome you have got some balls man stay safe lad
I’m still learning but I find hiking boots are a bit tough , would recommend me any hiking trainers
Excellent get out there mate. I like boots but lighter weight ones usually goretex. My trail running shoes are either Nike wildhorse or inov8’s

😂😂😂 yes between me and my dad
@@BUSHMANandBLUE Blue is a shining testament to your and your dads hard work and amazing dog training skills! as i said, 'awesome, just awesome!'
That's got to be one of the best routes in the lakes, up there with the high level route on pillar as part of the mosedale horseshoe ...
Yes it’s pretty good. Definitely a challenge with a backpack on👍
Thanks for sharing this, I've done Scafell once, but not via Lord' rake yet, has been a nice little insight, cheers. Love how much you take care of gorgeous Blue mate. Just wish my little companion (Shih Tzu) was able to get up those peaks with her little legs, but alas she stays at home unless it's Binsey or similar then she pulls me up haha PS 11% is deadly lol
You’ll have to give it a go at some point. Great route up in dry weather. You could throw your dog up in stages😂
@@BUSHMANandBLUE haha yeah true or get her a doggy backpack LMAO! I've stood at the top of the gullies on Scafell and they appear menacing. I bet they're not fun in descent though!?!
@@BUSHMANandBLUE PS I notice you went off Scafell Pike down Mickeldore gully, rather than the sketchy orangey looking path that joins Lord's Rake that I nearly went down but chickened out on because it was too eroded haha
Nice intro mate!

Stay safe mate,
