Been here since 94 as well… (Im actually one of the few born here… moved away in 83 then back in 94 when 14). Being here so long I’d bet you probably don’t worry about the hurricanes too much either, nothing short of a Cat4/5 anyway. You know by now that even if aimed right at you it can turn last minute and miss almost completely. Honestly the biggest concern for me, being in Tampa/St Pete area is first the traffic, especially when snowbirds are down causing all kinds of issues. I see Deadly/severe accidents numerous times per week… second is all the drugs bc I have couple kids. I know drugs are everywhere now but Florida is saturated since a lot of it comes into country through the state. Gators don’t even make my top ten and I see them all the time. Now, if ppl saw from above how many sharks are constantly swimming around them when they’re in water at beach, most probably wouldn’t go in. At any given time there’s likely atleast one shark close and big enough to cause real damage if it wanted. Not to mention bulls and tigers are pretty common here. That said, I go in water all the time and am more worried about rays than sharks.
I did that for 10 years..... I hate crowds so every time I get through west Texas to Yuma I fantasize about winning a lottery and putting my house dead smack in the west with a 200 mile barrier .... No traffic

People living in hotel rooms, because that is the same price as rent. It's not some sleepy old folks home. That was what I went for, to get some R&R, but it's really just an over-crowded city. You need to leave the USA now, to get a quiet place where your money will buy you a purely recreational experience. Just my sample size of one, thanks.
