If you're wondering what those black discs are that I'm using when free motion quilting, they are Martelli Palm Quilting Paddle Set. You can find them at:

Thank you. Was helpful to see 1 motif and multiple variations. I can imagine there are countless of other variations one can experiment with.
Thanks for the video..... very helpful 😊
I've got to say that loops are one of my favourite quilt motifs and it's so easy to vary them to create a new look.
thank you for quilting practice sheets.. at last i can improve on the shapes and swirls 😊
You're welcome 😊
I recently quilted a quilt of valor made by a friend. I used the loopy meander with stars and fireworks throughout the outer border. The border fabric was a navy and I used the same thread as in the rest of the quilt: a med tan. Wow! I couldn’t believe how striking that design looked! I believe I will be using it a lot more in our QOV quilts. Thanks for sharing!
Kim, this was fantastic! I make charity quilts and need simple, attractive FMQ designs to crank out numerous quilts. These fit the bill. Thanks again.
Nice loops and good ideas, thank you for sharing
Glad you like them!
I am currently fmqing a baby quilt using loops and hearts. Have done your olive loops and those look great too. Will have to try the little c’s in the center as those can be interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Kim ♦️
You look great! I love your new look! It takes 10 yrs off your age! Also, I love your videos - very informative and helpful!
Oh thank you!
I like the looks of all the loops. I find them very beginner friendly. I have not done free motion since last summer so am going to use the pillow case style on a dog quilt for practice. Thanks.
Loved how the middle section looked.
Glad you liked it!
I love the c loops!!
This is such an easy and attractive design. Thank you for your excellent tutorial. I have been dreading starting new patterns because I have so little experience and have only barely mastered the meander design.
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you, you are a big help to me. I’m just learning to do FMQ.
You can do it!
Thanks for the interesting video. Never could get into FMQ on my domestic machine but recently got a longarm and jumpig into FMQ. I find loops come easily and really enjoyed the variations you showed.
Great to hear!
Super
Looks good ...... I’m going to have a go!
Have fun!
Very interesting
Love the variety of loops. I am quilting a loop design now on a quilt for a friend, and it looks lovely. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
Thanks for this video, you have inspired me to try loop quilt. I'm curious about the quilt palm pals. Why do use them? How do they help you? I know when I quilt my hands hurt. Thanks for your time.
You're welcome, Debora and I'm glad that you are going to try loops. The Martelli quilting palm paddles are so good to use. I like that I don't have to take them off (like gloves) when I need to adjust something on my machine and I don't have to grip them to use them. I can just put my hands on top and move them around. If your hands hurt when you quilt, you might find these helpful. Check out the link for them in the Description below the video and also check out my video on them at ruclips.net/video/0yPX0zyD_RA/видео.html to see more information on how I use them.
What stitch length are you using for the loops? It looks so nice!
These are free motion quilted so I'm not sure as to the length - it's just how they turn out when I free motion quilt.
I just bought free motion foot for my machine
How did you set up your Janome? Did you use the free motion function on the machine? My stitches look a lot smaller than mine. P.S. you’re lucky to a Canadian.❤️
Yes, I used the free motion quilting settings. Check out my video on how to set up the Janome M7 for free motion quilting to see how I did that. You can view it at ruclips.net/video/IZ4-gkOTfHA/видео.html.
Your Janome is so quiet
Thank you for this great tutorial Kim! Where did you get that foot? TIA
It comes as a standard accessory with this and other Janome sewing machine models.
Your free motion video popped up on my feed. I have tried your loops on my Singer heavy duty machine and the back side of my project has very loose stitches which ruins the look of the backside. Ive tried every setting possible to elevate the problem but to no avail. What am i doing wrong?
I'm not sure if you are using a true industrial machine or a Singer model. In any case, you need to start with adjusting the bobbin tension (I have a video on this that you can check out) and then see how it runs. Also make sure that your machine is properly threads (nothing has popped out of a thread guide) and that the bobbin is in properly. Using the same weight thread top and bobbin is also helpful. Janome has a special bobbin case to use for fmq so perhaps one might also be available for your machine and this might help the problem.
Looks like you have raised the foot so that it doesn’t touch the fabric. I tried using this foot but could not get the quilt sandwich to move. Right?
You have to be in the right free motion quilting setting so that the foot is above the sandwich. Check your manual to see what settings you should be using on your machine when doing this type of stitching.
What threads are you using?
I'm not sure what I used for this video as it was some time ago but probably a 50 weight polyester like Glide.
9 minutes with 3 commercials??? Can you check your settings, pretty please? Love your thoughts, creativity, and your personality...thank you for sharing you and your quilting!
Thanks for the heads up - this is an automatic "feature" that RUclips sets for all videos so I'll see if I can disable it.
Pay for premium! So worth it…
Did you say ‘palm paddles’?
Yes, these are Martelli palm quilting paddles. The link for them is below the video.
