- JustPlanes produced a 4 hour cockpit film on the flight deck of the EDELWEISS AIR Airbus A330-200 on a rountrip flight from Zurich to Las Vegas and return flying 11h30mins and 10h40mins. On this video you can follow a good chunk of the pre-departure work of the 3 pilots as they get the A330 ready for the return flight to Zurich. Watch the complete external walkaround and see some of the in cockpit checklists and briefings leading to the takeoff from McCarran Airport.

Did not know Las Vegas had non stops from Zurich..... sure loved the direct flight from Medford,OR. ( 1.3 hrs.) we took a few years ago............. Nice walk around, BIG Thank You to Just Planes and the Crew.
Its actually pretty amazing the airline you see at Vegas... Airlines from Switzerland, UK, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Israel and many others... Vegas is loved all around the world... or people just love to gamble:)

Brings me back to my Navy days when we did walkaround and aircraft checks on shore and the carrier. It took him about 15-mins to do it for the video but I suspect that normally it takes about 5. After you do a walkaround about 100+ times you can pick out something wrong pretty damned quick. For me it turned into almost not seeing, or in some cases feeling what is correct, you almost look past it, but if something is missing, out of place or doesn't look "right" you pick up on it.

We certainly do... We've filmed their routes to North America, South America, Asia and Africa and each project was done super professionally and the folks at Edelweiss are super kind. Glad to see this airline doing well!

What is that on the head of the pilet that is doing the explanation of the flight route & what is that used
for by him for during the flight?
There are some I e vews of the deparcher airport & surrounding landscape during taxying to the take of runway & during the behing of the take off from the airport as well after that thow unfortunetlly the landscap bellow the right side wing out the window becomes quite dark thow probably due to the time of day at takeoff thow so it is quite difficult to see any thing during most of the rest of the flight unfortunet.y at least as to what the flight is flying over so the only thing that can be seen their after is what the flight attendance are doing or the map of the flight rout & then the discription of the pilet after deparcher , flight route witch includes a little shortening of the flight time due to direction cha ge given to the piles by the airtrafic control tower AFTER take in order to avoid turbulence during the flight.
When do you use autopilot? 3600 feet?
Question: After the pilots get instructions from ATC, sometimes the ATC say....".Information Delta (or echo, foxtrot, etc.)". what does that mean? Thanks.
That's to determine a specific version of the ATIS. Just read about ATIS, then you'll understand :)
23:25 look at the red lights turning on on the runway, does that mean they don't have take off clearance yet?
Yes. They are called Takeoff Hold Lights.

I don’t know when this was filmed, but fun fact: because of magnetic drift all the runways at KLAS were renumbered. This video still shows 25R - 7L when today it’s 26R - 8L.
Flight plan dated 26 Sept 2015. Runway renumbering August 2017.

this is old. they still refer to the airport as "McCarran Airport"!
Why are the checks not done after passenger unit detached from plane and also catering unit. Are we just to trust that the drivers of these units have not damaged anything on the plane ?
That is something the ground engineer (Captain talks about him at the start of the video) does... he will generally do a visual inspection of the plane after all doors above and below are closed and before push back. Often the cargo doors are closed after the passenger doors close so it would not be possible for a pilot to do this.

My uncle is edelweiss pilot
He;s a lucky guy. They get to fly to beautiful places all over the world and because they only fly there 2-3-4x a week as opposed to other airlines flying daily, they get to enjoy each place for 3-4 days. They have it made :)

Yes Sako... every video is a bit different, sometimes its a bit more inside, other times a bit more outside, depends on the views as well.

Just Planes, do people actually buy your aviation films on your website? There are not many aviation enthusiasts and fewer might want to buy your films. Does anyone buy?
Yes, we wouldn't be around if people didn't buy them as they are really expensive to produce. Remember we have a team, we have tons of equipment and all of that costs a lot... so we need to sell a certain amount of videos in order to be able to continue producing them.
It is definitely a niche market so none of us will ever be millionaires and buy our own islands :) but this allows us to do what we love to do and we know we've motivated and helped thousands of pilots all over the world as we meet them in airlines and they tell us how they started by watching our videos and then there are a lot of enthusiasts who just want to see how cockpits work and last, but not least, there is a big following in the flight sim community and some of those folks like to see how it works in the cockpit and then reproduce these flights on their computer flight sims...
Days seeing flight crew without masks are gone. 😞
ya for now... hopefully this time next year we're enjoying a great summer!

THis is all edited Alex and sometimes pieces are cut just because we don't want to bore people with the same over and over again... Like the pre-departure briefing you see is about half of what we filmed, don't think you would want to sit through 40mins of preparations, calculations etc... but on the actual video we have available in our download store we go into full details...
