Just to clear things up, I am aware that the "other airliner" landings are made in crosswinds or other difficult conditions and I am not directing any hate towards these pilots. For people saying that "not only the A330 butters" or "A330 landings arent always smooth" - this is a stereotype or a `Joke` which is not meant to be taken seriously.
As an A330 pilot i can tell you it also takes a lot more skill than other types to get a smooth landing. You have to flare correctly to grease on the rear tires of the main bogies, then pitch forward to rotate the front wheels of the main bogies down gently and then apply back pressure again to softly land the nosewheel. All while dealing with crosswinds etc. Its very satisfying when you nail it!
Awesome to hear this from a pilot, Nice explanation thank you. Now I know why the flare is so long. The 'floating as the other person put it is the reason I searched A330 landings. I saw a Swiss Air landing on big jet TV and noticed a kinda Zen like 'Stillness' moment at that (extended) flare point. It's awesome to realise all that weight can just balance or 'Poise' like that and for so long. I kept replaying it to get that Eckhart Tolle moment... little did I know all the effort going on in the cockpit.
How do you know where the wheels are in relation to the ground when you are all that way up there in the cockpit? Do you have cameras or is it just sense, ground rush and practise?
Correct It's harder to land an 330 than A359 because A330 height is less and the flight control is more delayed, the first flare height will be as early as 50 feet above ground. it's different from the A350 which flare height is only about 30 feet.if we use the same height as A350 with the A330, it could lead to a hard landing.
All aircraft can butter. It’s all about the weather, pilot skills, pilots decision, runway length and some luck. However, with A330s, everybody butters frequently,
@@benjaminspillane2623Of course it was meant as a joke, but it’s frequently the reality. That was my point. Then again, I might still be missing the joke, you tell me. 😊

The reason A330s always butter is because the back gear is tilted very much, resulting it in taking a lot of time to bring it fully down. So actually A330 pilots are FORCED to butter
is this relatable? me playing mobile plane games using tilt: me puts the top of the mobile 1 atom closer to my head. the plane: makes a verticle take off.
also no hate to those games but rfs is not good it costs money like just get airline commander instead it has free flight i think and its super fun i use it every day
@@l.n963 i don't think that the A340 is that much of a butter machine 'cause it doesn't have a ultra-tilted landing gear and (at least on the videos i watched) it doesn't generally has such good pilots as the A330 adn A320 + some variants are too damn long, short or undethrusted that is kinda hard to land them butter but the A340 it's still a good plane on my personal opinion
A smooth landing like the A330 is actually more dangerous because your descent rate is too slow in relation to your airspeed “landing speed in this case” which means that you only have a short amount of runway to slow down and bring your aircraft to a full stop and the chances of a runway excursion will increase compared to that of a hard, but safer landing. Though your descent rate is a bit fast which could lead you to slamming the runway too hard, but you conserve more runway for you to slow down and bring your aircraft to a stop. Hard landings are unpleasant to passengers, but are actually safer than you think.
