Die raue Stimme von Chuck Ragan, akkordbasierte, treibende und oft hymnische Songs... Bei Hot Water Music weiß man, was man bekommt: ehrlichen Punkrock.
Eine der beliebtesten US-Punkrockbands kommt ausgerechnet aus einem Bundesstaat, in dem man Punkrock wohl am wenigsten erwartet: Florida. 1994 gründen Chuck Ragan (Gesang/Gitarre), Chris Wollard (Gesang/Gitarre), Jason Black (Bass) und George Rebelo (Schlagzeug) in Gainesville die Band Hot Water Music. Ihr Stil: Rauer Gesang, persönliche Texte und melodiebetonte Songs mit verzerrten Gitarren.
Hin und wieder hat die Band eine Pause eingelegt, eine Zeitlang war sie sogar offiziell aufgelöst. Seither entstehen aus Hot Water Music immer wieder einzelne Projekte, u.a Chuck Ragan solo oder The Draft, um nur zwei zu nennen. Aber irgendwie gehört diese Band auf Gedeih und Verderb zusammen. Denn viele Jahre und viele Alben nach ihrer Gründung zählen Hot Water Music immer noch zu den großen Helden der sogenannten Post-Hardcore-Szene und gehen international auf Tour.

So awesome to see my dude Chris with HWM. I remember being in the van with the Flats on a NOFX tour in the US back when they were just kids. They finished the tour and the next day played to 5 people in small bar behind a laundrette and they played just as hard. Absolute road dogs.
Man, Cresswell just fucking annihilates it. Saw them two nights in a row in San Francisco and the dude is so spot on but also respectful of the role he’s been given. So much love for them to keep going not in spite of Wollard, but for him.

Cresswell does an incredible job. Puts his own spin on things but absolutely nails the hwm spirit and feel. They've literally just put out one of their best records with him in tow too. Loving this era of hwm. Also this live mix is the bomb 👌
That stretch of songs once they're done Caution is ridiculous. Old Rules, State of Grace, Drag My Body, God Deciding...all my favourites one after the other, Mainline not far behind... wow

Ive seen them several times and they never disappoint and have gotten better...chuck is one of the best songwriters and his vocals hit me in the chest like very few others can..
Damn that version of Old Rules really let's Chucks voice shine. I love it so much I don't know how he keeps it in shape, to sing like that for this long is really something

Chuck Ragan acoustic set is fantastic. I'm impressed his raspy voice has kept together after all these years
Such an amazing band. Lyrically empowering and uplifting even through the darker or in despair themed songs. Chuck Ragan is in the ranks there with Bob Mould, Joe Strummer, Chi Pig, Rollins, Ian McKaye, Cash, John Prine, Dylan…imo. 🎼✌️❤️
At 50:43, damn!, Chuck is roaring like a lion! This is fucking awesome, amazing performance.

Just saw them a couple weeks ago, June 2024.. 30th anniversary tour and they shredded the place to pieces as usual. Best band ever
same. caught them in San Diego. Quicksand AND HWM together... insane! amazing! one of the best shows i've ever seen!

Cresswell is an incredible guitarist, Chuck gets all the power chords, but damn, the complimenting guitars with Chris playing those awesome octave fills on top of the power chords is so freaking badass and original and unique as the gravel and sawdust filled throat that is Chuck's voice... awesome band. Humble as can be

I flew from Mpls to Richmond VA to see them in February 2020. Last big trip I made before Covid struck. It was hard to listen to them for awhile. After 20 months, they came out with their new single on the same day I’m getting my kids their first shot of the vaccine. So grateful for these guys.

Wow, I remember the first band I was in playing a show with these guys at Delareto's in Absecon, NJ back in the 90s. Cool to see that they are still at it, and killing it!

From 1998 to 2003 I probably saw HWM five or six times. We went to Dennys with them after their show in SLC.
That was my time man!... That album Fuel for the Hate game. lol

Jealous. I was in SLC from 91 to 2000 and I never saw them. I want to probably 90% of the punk and ska shows that came (including all the tiny ones in the basement of DV8), but never saw HWM. I did, however, got stomped by bonehead skins and lost a tooth after Suicide Machines/Suicidal Tendencies show. For the life of me I can't find the date of the show anywhere. Do you remember that one?
@@BikesAndBatallasI saw the Suicide Machines with the Vandals at the Fairgrounds. Also with Ensign at Bricks. I don't know how I missed them with Suicidal Tendencies. HWM played in the DV8 basement. Saw them with Leatherface too. Sorry I couldn't help. What about Avail at Bricks, DV8, The Union Ballroom, Kilby Court? I rarely missed a show. Cheers.
@@reidellis1988 Was definitely at those shows as well. Funny to run across someone who shared my same stomping gounds decades ago. I've lived in Spain since 2007, but I have great memories of those days whenever I visit.
I remember Mr. Ragan got me and a friend into a Ragan / Draft show in Austin when the venue was packed and not letting anyone else in. I really thought they were going to do a short reunion cause they were all there but it didn’t happen but that’s okay. It was still great.

This is the closest I have been to seeing HWM live. I some how always miss them and seeing these live shows on RUclips tells me I need to get my ass out a HWM show. On a side note, is it just me or is the guy at 0:55 with the “Make America Great Again” at the wrong show?
Last flight i took before all this madness took over, saw the show and back to Athens. I would prefer the last song without the guest, but whatever. Great show!

If anyone could help, I'm very confused ... Chuck's guitar looks like a Reverend Sensei or Yamaha Revstar, but it has a Gibson headstock on it, so, what guitar is it ?
It's a newer gibson les paul jr tribute doublecut with a p90 sized humbucker swapped in. sick guitars, barely weigh anything and sound great 🤘
Nice to see them dip back into Caution songs. Miss Wollard, happy to see Rebello, I think Wollard's replacement is fantastic. Good to see these guys back!
The whole tour was anniversary shows for Caution and No Division. They would play 2 nights, 1 album in its entirety per night and then a mix of other material. The shows were great.
I'm so F-in envious of Chris Creswell (lucky bastard 🤨). He's such a good fit with these guys until Chris Wollard comes back.

@@maxamillion6958 Initially I heard it was something personal (this was 2 or 3 years ago) but after I posted this I read that he has a couple side projects going and apparently just wanted some time away from hwm. I just listened to the album "Irruption" from his band "Ship Thieves" and it's pretty fuckin' good.

Chris creswell is now an official member of the band making it a 5 piece. I saw somewhere Wollard couldn't tour because of panic attacks. Not sure if this means they'll tour as a 5 piece too but both Chris's are here to stay.

I like Chris Creswell in the Flatliners but I don't like him for Hot Water, he doesn't have enough grit to replace Chris Wollard. His voice reminds me of an angry panther or cat.
