I was a stoic, 60 year-old man when I heard this song for the first time, four months after my father passed. I cried harder than I ever had before, and I still get very emotional every time I watch someone react to it. Yours was a genuine, heartbreaking reaction, and I cried right along with you.

Me too brother. I grew up in a nightmare existence because of my dad. When he passed I felt nothing (2011) not until I encountered this song. I found some forgiveness to a man who had his monsters too, only there was no help for him like there was for me. this song breaks me every time I hear it.

This amazing , powerful and emotional song always get's me choked up no matter how many times I watch the video. All those of us who never got to say a proper goodbye to our dads (or mums) have their hearts ripped out by this song, and remember, he refused to use 'Auto-Tune' because he wanted the whole thing to be 100% real, raw and genuine. James and his dad were both former UK military guys, and served in Kosovo. I heard that James donated all the proceeds of this video to the UK charity 'Help For Heroes' who do so much wonderful work for ex-servicemen & women here in the UK, and God bless him for that. What a man!

James's dad who had only recently been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease and was not expected to survive, although they did eventually find a donor and he made it. Both James and his dad are former officers in the British military. First time I heard this was 3 days after my Dad passed away and it broke me I lost my Dad 4 years ago this August after he fell and hit his head sadly he didn't survive it caused a bleed on his brain I sadly never had the chance to tell him I loved him and that hurts but i know he is at peace now.

It was also the very first time his father had heard or read any of the melody or lyrics. They were his father’s first reactions. It’s also a song that saved his life. Gets me every time, especially the monsters line and calling his father “daddy”. Daddy can be seen a rather juvenile term, but it cuts to the core of how he sees himself with his father.

Did this particular reaction video to James Blunt but his father is on the mend and he’s doing very well now. In the video, that was his real dad, and apparently the lyrics were written by Jameses sister. On a lighter note. Did you know that James blunt actually put his sister on eBay? LOL. There’s a long story behind it but it wasn’t out of sibling rivalry. He did it as a favour for her. Please keep your videos coming because I really enjoy them. After finding this song 1 day ago, I cannot stop watching and I can't stop crying. This is what it is to be human, life just comes down to the closeness of people from the first breath to our last. Somehow we get lost in chasing the 'things' and do not invest enough in our humanity. Now I am going to find anther persons reaction and subject myself to my reactions to this song.

A distant cousin had seen the video when it was released got tested and was a match. James's father has some years previously donated one of his kidneys to someone else in need.

When James and his father were both officers serving in the Army as James left to deploy to Kosovo apparently his father said to him “I’m not your father, you’re not my son, we’re just 2 grown men saying goodbye”! So emotional.

I just found your channel watching Oliver Anthony reactions. I was hesitant to watch this because the song makes me cry every time I listen to it because I too lost my father and I said to myself you’ll get through it. Here I am about halfway through crying like a little baby. Such a beautiful reaction. I’m subscribed!!

Sweetie...I'm 72 years old and have lost my parents a long time ago. My mother's death had to be the toughest thing I have ever faced. Your reaction was the same as mine. This song reminded me so much of her. Please don't dwell on the death so much that you forget about the good things that happened between you two. Please accept my condolences and I am so sorry for your loss. Just remember you are loved by me and all of us here following your channel.
