I think you should watch the entire video once again, practice by writing the formula shown in the video and apply it for your situation. Moreover, I recommend my videos on basics to get clear idea about writing Excel formulas.
There are 3 types of references in Excel. Relative, Mixed and Absolute. Maybe the cell is displaying the corresponding number instead of Date. If so, you need to apply Date format to the cell. Right click on the cell > Format Cells... > Date > select the required date format and Click OK
