@@BexsBoxofConfusion this earth hour shit hurts the environment more than it helps it, do you realize that lighting a candle releases a shit ton of CO2 into the atmosphere, when everyone does it at the same time, that just ain't good, earth hour is the dumbest idea us apes ever had.

What is the carbon footprint of a candle being lit for one hour compared to every household having ~5 lamps, the tv, a computer, etc. in for one hour? I’m not saying an hour of symbolically turning of electricity is going to have any impact, but to claim candles do worse is ridiculous.

Candles emit less light than your lightbulb, so say when a person lights ten candles to make up for a single lightbulb, they release a whole lot of CO2, a coal plant releases less in a day than there is released in that hour, and when everyone turns their lights back on, power stations need to fire up more generators to make up for the increased demand, releasing even more CO2, this much carbon waste is trapping more heat in our lower atmosphere, and speeding up climate change.
If you wanna help, don't light a fucking candle and do it for at least a week, the only change that hour gives is worsen the planets already terrible situation

When I think of Earth hour, I don't think of it as saving power. I think of it as making a statement and showing my support. I turned my lights off and left them off afterwards. I talked to my family about the world and things that were happening in it. We spent time being a group and communicating when the electronics were off and then went to bed. I don't see why there's so much argument about this. It's a cause to promote awareness, I feel, rather than an actual movement.

its easy to do, your doing your part in helping the ozone, and its quite spectacular to see an entire city turn its lights off like that. Im totaly doing this tonight.

I'm happy to support this uplifting, positive intiative. There's power in unity.
I participated with shuting of all lights and watching a movie with my family. I guess to go the whole way we could have turned of the tv too. I think Earth Hour is a great way to show that u care about our planet and want a change to happen. Even thou turning of lights for an hour isnt gonna save the earth but it works as a message. And maybe some people will buy more environment-friendly products.. i hope ;)

WOW, i loved this event, My family and i participated here in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, so sad that the city was well lite but we will spread the word better next time. It was fun having candlelit dinner.

This is fun!
Our family, 2 adults, 3 kids, come up with the idea of living 1 night a month without electricity. The idea happened after, due to a winter storm, we 'survived, 3 days without electricity. It is so much easier to do it when it is planned!

the event was success here in jakarta, indonesia, all of my neighbours was switch off their electrity and going out to the road with candle...

this year, my country Portugal and other europeans are joining. as of myself I will turn everything off except my fridge, freezer and one of the televisions because me and my neighbours have to watch the football match against sweden. This is not about reducing consumption for an hour, this is about raising consciousness.
I had every light in my house on for earth hour. I even turned my Christmas lights on that I haven't taken down yet, just a hair under 12,000 bulbs. I think I may have an all lights on party next year. We could use a little warm up in Minnesota.
