@@ethancoster1324you guys are really struggling with basic comprehension. Kimber only says they’d be more nervous about Shamar playing because roach isn’t playing and he literally says “I still think he could be fantastic”. No one is saying he doesn’t play, just without roach there will be more pressure and he doesn’t have the proven control. The OP said Kimber was wrong about Shamar bowling badly in IPL because it was a road, but that has nothing to do with him bowling wides and long hops. Can anyone explain why they are putting Anderson out to pasture but then keeping Woakes as the experienced bowler? I like Woakes but surely he isn’t going to Australia either?
Is it just the fact that they only want one old hand so they can bring through other bowlers?
Shouldn’t you just pick your best team until other bowlers force their way in?
Or are the Bazballers gonna demand flat pitches so their technically flawed batters can thrive and they figure poor old man Jimmy will just wear himself out on roads and get 0 for 80 odd?

Atkinson isn’t first choice for Surrey and his only attribute is a bit of pace so why is a second string county player selected for England? Keeping with Surrey and I’m sure there are many more skilful bowlers across the country but Worrall, Clarke and Lawes are for more dangerous than Atkinson in English conditions. You can add another ten bowlers across the counties. As you say the spinner situation is another bizarre selection. As H says the top three English batsman are a concern. Pope looks particularly fragile at the moment. Surely it can be no surprise that England is ninth in the test table considering their selection policy.

I'm baffled by the selectors choosing either. There are at least 7or 8 better English spinners in the Counties. The County records of Hartley and Bashir are awful. They failed in India: does no-one get that? On spinners wickets they averaged in the mid 30s. Anyone will pick up some wickets because of uneven bounces. Their Indian counterparts averaged 10 runs per wicket less. Over 5 tests that 900 or so runs, the margin between winning and losing the series. And they bowled badly: far too many loose balls, Try someone else! On top of that I hear all of the pundits going on about tall bowlers getting bounce. Yes Ashwin is tall but the other Indian spinners arent plus, as mentioned, the ball stays low in India. Ashwin is poor outside of India. The only great tall spinners were O'Reilly and Verity and Verity didn't do well in Oz. Just more lazy punditry.

Then players like Hartley and Bashir goes with Eng strategy of choosing bowlers coz they can bat.
Plus look at height factor of English openers as well. Zak is taller, Ducket is shorter. Eng will get advantage as bowlers will have to adjust their length accordingly. Top sides will adapt to this change. Mid sides will yield advantage to Eng. Same case with bowlers.
