in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve

I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Hi Charlotte, RUclips suggested a farm to me to checkout. Its was 'Master Farm' and it's a 130 pure-bred Jersey cow dairy farm. The owner gave us a quick tour of the cowes inside their shed and shows the padded beds with very fine wood chips on the beds. He showed the robot 'poop' scaper' and the 'feed wheel' that pushes it up on both sides. Chris from Victoria, Australia 🇦🇺.

One of our cats once came home with concrete on hes paws turns out our neighbours freshly finished new driveway was coveted in paw prints he wasnt best pleased 😂😂😂
Inky is gorgeous, reminds me of my black cat, Jasmine. Best ratter ever, she'd sit and wait in the feed store for hours coiled up ready to pounce. When I walked in she'd just instantly turn in to the softest cat ever. I miss her eye kisses.

You guys are making great progress roll on the end of march and then we can see the cows arrive, with the red hair and the black cat all you need is a big wart on your nose and you can be the…..itch at the end of the lane! ( had to say end of the lane cause I couldn’t remember what the name of the valley was, forgive me I’m from another country after all) as for the wind blowing through the shed I wouldn’t get to anxious until you see how it is when you fill it with cows when you have been at this game as long as I have you will see that if you have to choose between a bit chilly for a few days in winter versus a bit stuffy for a few months in summer, the wind blowing through would have to be very seriously cold-10 or worse before it will make too much difference for the cows but a stuffy airless shed will have the half of them sick in no time. you will have to stick some yorkshire boarding up the sides and end of that shed i think charlotte........when its really cold and the wind is coming from the East you will get things freeze up.........deffinately not a good thing in a milking shed

So we have two now friendly cats who follow me about and come and find me on the farm at tea time.

When you hear things bang in a machine in future can you please look because sometimes it can cause personal damage! Better still have your repair man visit once a month. He will in a part morning notice anything needing mechanical repair.

The cows will be laying on cubicles with mattresses on and to be honest the passageways will be rather on the damp side anyway with all the animal mess in there
