- Hello everyone, hope you've all had a great Easter.
In this episode we do a lot of working out in order to get all our levels for the first floor perfect. then and only then...we can build!
Also, at the end of the video we answer your questions from the previous one.

Thanks!
Cracking episode again, brilliant to watch.
😁
Ah Jim that's great mate, thank you so so much. That's another £2 in the pot for the kids in Birmingham's Children Hospital this Christmas. Thanks again mate, take care.
@@mrabuilders6723 , it’s an absolute pleasure!! I find your videos a great watch. £2 ain’t much but keep these videos coming and I’ll pay £2 a week to watch them!!
Sunday’s would not be Sunday’s without Mr A builders, you guys are a class act…..
Ah thank you, Graham! Hope you're well mate.
Nice to see quality tradesmen at work 👍
Nice one! Thank you!
I couldn't agree more! Quality tradesmen like this are hard to come by.
Bet these customers are glad they have you guys on the job!
Very knowledgeable and trustworthy 👍
Fingers crossed, Peter! Haha! Cheers mate, all the best.
That last part being filmed in flip revers proper through my geographic off as you were explaining it 😂. Took me a while to realise.
Same!
Me three
Sorry all! You're right, it was! My bad!
Took me too long to figure it out too but it was staring me in the face all the time. The logo on your clothing was the wrong way round 😂
with regards to underfloor heating in timber floor, I've done between joists, on top of 100mm PIR, 25mm battens straight on top of joists then all infilled with a traditional screed to provide thermal mass, then 18mm OSB (stronger than chipboard, so doesn't need to be 22mm) and LVT on top. The OSB has good contact with the screed and thats where you get your thermal transfer. Has worked great for us all winter in our semi renovated house. We are on a heat pump, and have a low design temperature. It's called a "biscuit screed" system, and is fully designed and supported by most of the UFH companies. Way cheaper than the routed boards too, i wanted to use proper size pipes (16mm) so that wasn't an option anyway.
My SUnday is blessed!
Praise be!!!
Got to love a Sunday “Beauutiful” from Adam. Just seals the weekend off nicely. Looking great as always chaps. Have a great week all 👍🏻
Haha! Cheers mate! Nice one, pal. You have a great week too.
Love the Sunday episodes. Never too long. Excellent work as per usual. Very well explained and very thorough. 👌👍.
Thank you, Alan. Hope you're well mate.
Use “K.A tanking slurry” for internal perimeter walls 👍🏻 just for peace of mind
Do you think that that's all it needs?
Another brilliant update. Can't wait for the next part this coming Sunday. I'll go back to the house renovation series in the meantime.
Thank you once again, Marcus! Hope you're having a great week, mate.
Fantastic, I love it when a plan comes together. The A Builders 🙂👍 Once again, smashing background music. I look forward to Sundays. Keep the good work up. 🙂👍
Thank you, mate! It's ace to hear that you like the music too, we never know quite what to do with that so we really appreciate the feedback! Thanks again, take care.
I follow a lot of professions on youtube but building still amazes me with the breadth of skill and knowledge needed to do the job correctly. Great work explaining and really entertaining to watch 😊
Thank you, Peter. That's a great comment to receive, nice one. Take care, mate.
water issue on the inside is usually just put tar paper or tyvek against the exterior wall. usually its just for the foundation sweating and keeping it away from the wood and insulation. if you are getting more moisture than that then you have bigger issues than what you are using to keep things as dry as possible. your weather is way different than ours so the issues probably dont make such a big difference between the 2 locations. love the long eps.
Yet another demonstration of fine craftsmanship again gents. Keep it up and I’m looking forward for the next one to drop.
Best quote ever…..’piece of paper that we have to turn into reality’ 👍
sweet. another nice sunday afternoon with the boys. will get some beer chilling.
Get them in the freezer mate! Just don't forget about them! Hope you're well, pal.
@@mrabuilders6723 would never let that happen. all good here. hope you and the boys are well and the job is a success! though with some drama for us watching...lol
@jayboo8495 haha! Drama...the algorithm's best friend!
Brilliant work.
Thank you, Craig. Hope you're well mate.
Great episode guys. Could watch your channel all day. How you explain what and why your doing it. Also, you pick easy listening music. It does not overpower the the film segment. 👏👏👏
Ah that's ace, Ian! Thank you so much! Glad you like our stuff and long may it continue! Thanks again mate, take care.
Love the length of the episode and the format explanation and time-lapses etc. Great work lads loving this build and love sunday upload from you boys! Keep up the great work 💪🏼
Nice one, Jack. Thank you for your comment mate and for watching. Hope you're well.
Cold deck vented we normally do herringbone wants/noggings to help ventilation, great videos fella
That brick pad stone makes a lot more sense 👍🏻
Well, I thought so but we shall see!
Love watching your videos, even though I know nothing about building and will never build anything, but I still find them interesting! Also, a great accent like mine.
Haha! It's not often that the accent gets called "great"! Cheers, Liam! Really appreciate your comment mate, hope you're well.
I can assure your viewers that there is nowt "bargain basement" in the quality of those Evolution mag drills. I've used them in an industrial environment for years. They are absolutely diamond. Light, powerful and reliable. Have drilled many, many 20, 30 mm holes through 25 mm and thicker steel plate without the thing ever pulling a face. The only thing cheap about them is the price. Cheap enough for a diy type to afford. They will last many years if used with respect. Another great vid.
Couldn't agree more regarding the drill, mate. Thank you. Hope you're well.
Looking mint
Luvin the vids
Superb episode and great progress
Fascinating build, its going to be amazing when finished.
Fingers crossed mate! Cheers, pal.
Looking fabulous! Hope you can keep the engineering brick instead of the pad stone?!
The emphasis on keeping the viewer clued in really is helpful. When the video is 50 minutes long it’s great how 50% is all about prep. The 50% makes it then all become clearer and enjoyable.
Customer must be delighted.
Thank you, Don. Glad you like the format as it's a bit of a gamble really! Finger crossed they are, mate! All the best, hope you're well.
Top content love your work ethics 🏴👍
great job guys .. as always VERY professional
Great work lads 👍🏾
Thank you, mate.
Coming along nicely
Cheers mate!
Thats an epic build guys. Dont know how you get your heads around all the things going on at the same time 😳 . Really enjoyed this episode. Hope you have a dry week. 👍👍👍
Thank you, Doug! There's been a few head scratching moments and no doubt there'll be a few more to come! Thank you for your comment mate and your continued support, have a great week
...and just like that we have a floor😎looking good...
As if my magic! Cheers mate.
Great lads 🙋♂
Cheers, Jo!
Luv it
Cheers, Steve. Hope you're well mate.
great stuff
Cheers John, hope the fight for the resistance is going well.
Excellent work
Thank you, Rob.
😊Great video, really enjoyed it.
Cheers Paul, glad you liked it mate. Take care.
Great job gentlemen 👌 what a team.
Thank you, mate. Nice one. Take care.
This is great to watch, so glad you got this job.
Cheers, pal! So are we! All the best.
I used to make pad stones for my steels .old school .
Long episode was fine, loved it 👍
Nice one! Cheers mate!
Great build guys, keep it up.
Cheers The Stath! How are the bees, mate?
@@mrabuilders6723 Much nicer than those flipping sharks!
When I do steels I tack weld the spaces to one of the beam's, can make life easier if the beams are close together.
Great to see the progress your team have made on this build.
Thank you, Dennis. It's getting somewhere now.
Great watch.
Thank you, Barry.
Warmup do a system where the chipboard is routed out for the pipes to go within in. It’s quite pricey but it works. Only downside it’s 12mm pipe and you should latex it for thermal mass
Nice one, Harry. I'll look them up mate.
Great job lads
Cheers mate! How's things?
@@mrabuilders6723 all good mukka, made great progress with the carport, it’s looking good. Thanks for keeping us entertained
Nice one mate, hope the weather is being kind to you!

Thank you, Dennis! Really appreciate that mate. Hope you're well.
Loving the pink friendship band Adam !!!!!
Haha! Cheers Jo! I find it brings out my eyes!
Excellent! Best vid on this project imho...
Thank you mate! Out of interest, why do you think that is please?
@@mrabuilders6723 I'm no builder but, in my younger years, was keen on DIY but nothing, obviously on this scale. I'm finding this whole basement project fascination and there's lots of explanations about how you go about achieving the end result which seems to me will be a really great achievement.
@BLAZERSEAMS thank you for getting back to me, Blazer. Really appreciate the feedback, mate.
Nice you care,so much .
Attention to detail
Thank you, Mr Bond!
Haha you're doing well with ky 3mm to 4mm differences 😏 we get them sometimes 6mm to almost 10mm different out of the same bunch of Timber.
We get differences in steel dimensions also which makes me wonder why they bother with British Standard.
But all looking good lads, much nicer work now than working in that relentless mud & rain 🙂
We did an underfloor system a few years ago where the piping is in grooves in the 22mm chipboard flooring then a 9mm ply is glued & screwed on top. The grooves come pre done in the 8'x2' boards & you just route out the loops.
Haha! The difference's are quite something aren't they!
I quiet like the Grey engineering Bricks would left them as face brickwork 👍
Love your videos, I am looking to build a basement extension next year, I would love to hire you guys! Fantastic work 👏
Don't rule us out, mate!
@@mrabuilders6723 yes for sure, I will be in touch via email once I have the approved plans 👍
Fabulous work as always from you chaps! Good to see progress being made. Adam, I love the pink bracelet! 😉 Looking forward already for the next episode, Sundays are so much better after watching your videos!
Ps I got confused at the end as the camera was reversed! 🤔
Thank you, yet again, Simon! Really appreciate your support as always. It's a lovely bracelet isn't it! I might start selling him as official merch!!!
@@mrabuilders6723 I’m not sure I’m man enough to wear one of those bracelets mate! 😂
Has the last bit of the video been flipped? My heads constantly trying move the walls so it makes sense 🤪😂
Haha! You know what, I think it may have been! Soz!
👍👍👍
Measure twice cut once rule , good job
Love the pink wrist band Adam does the wife know you got that lol great vid by the way look forward to the rest
Haha! She's never getting it back! Thank you, Nigel. Hope you're well mate.
For your potential damp issue on the left hand basement wall, could you use heavy duty DPM sheet up against to wall from the footings and up to past soil level. Do the same again but with heavy duty weed membrane over lapping at the bottom near the footings then fill in between with gravel to allow any water to soak away?
Hello Martin. I'm not too sure mate, I'll run it past the inspector and see what happens! Cheers mate, hope you're well.
Jaysus ! don't like to see steels on a padstone ? what do they mean ? concrete, engineering brick, steel pad, natural stone, what don't they like ? I remember reading that a bath stone block was preferable because the steel can slide on it easily ! ( quietly, nobody ever stopped me using thick quarry tile !) I also used to shot nail timber into the steel web to take the joist hangers (black cartridge). We all do it differently, it's what you trust.
I like the care you take.
Re venting the cold roof. As each joist bay needs a vent, it's easier, & and neater to box out the wall abutment and use a continuous over fascia vent under the flashing instead of having to install & seal around individual vents. Heating under lvt would probably result in expansion & possible buckling of the lvt, I've experienced this with lvt laid in a timber studio, which got really warm during a rare summer heatwave.
Nice one, mate. We'll definitely be doing that. As for the UFH, that's a great shout! I'm glad we're not doing that now!
Keep up the good work. Always a good watch.
Thank you, Tim. Appreciate that mate.
Once again a well explained video from "professional builders" who take pride in their work. love the Camaraderie / Banter you have within your team?
Thank you, Poddy! That's a great t-shirt by the way!
👍
Nice one, Paul.
Good stuff again gentlemen. A question I wish I knew, perhaps I should know, what's wrong with putting the joists into the webs of the RSJs? I have before ; have I been naughty?
A lot of progress Adam looking at the video start page pre-air! I see the cat has lost his/her exclusive access ramp! Where's Arthur Askey?
,
Hello Nicholas, hope you're well mate. Make sure you watch all the video, there is something in it especially for you!
Adam - you wern't wrong! not one but two cats!
Haha! I presume you've seen the special guest appearance from Arthur Askey?
@@mrabuilders6723 Yes! that didn,t go unnoticed!
Have you guys seen the corner padstones? Ive not seen many places selling them but a cmpany called SNS building products sells them. They do a lot of the more random sizes out there.
No I have not mate, but they would be the answer! Nice one mate, I'll look them up. Take care.
Ive started getting those fabricated lintels galvanised now. Its not too much more money
I was wondering why put put a dpc in, types of dpc include flexible and solid, solid dpcs consort of engineering bricks class A or B , the amount of Class A courses you have ran would easily repell any damp anyway.
You can also but grp mushroom vents for cold roofs.
Hello, hope you're well. We wouldn't be able to not put a flexible DPC in, as you call it. To be honest I can't think of an instance where if i wanted that protection I wouldn't install one.
How much movement will there be in the joists as they dry out do you think, if at all?
YOU LET OUT THE GIANT CAT !!! 😱😱😱
We wondered about the little window!
Arsenal, as in a plethora of arsenal shots!
We couldn't contain the beast!
@@mrabuilders6723 We note it tried to attack you, but decided to wait until the floor was done!
@OuryLN haha!
Hi Adam. Great vid as usual. What’s the reason for the large cavity and double wall please ?
Morning Jock. That's a cavity wall mate, two skins 150mm apart filled with insulation. That's how we've got to build it.
@@mrabuilders6723 cheers matey
Arthur askey eee who called him that 😂😂😂
Haha! A fella called Nigel, here in the comments somewhere! It's ace isn't it!
Use lock nuts on the bolts they have blue seal dnt come undone
I know this might sound bonkers but could you not add a bitumen to your concrete if you plan to fill the exterior wall void between path, or add bitumen to your sand and cement mixture, because joints are normally the most porous.
Ooohhhh....not sure about that, mate! I'll have to look into it as I do love a bit of bonkers!
@@mrabuilders6723 Yeah it was just a thought by no means do I have any experience in building. Just that I know that bitumen products are used to waterproof, I did ask the same thing to Colin Furze when he was talking about damp and rust associated to the concrete for around his bunker 😂
Is that rockwool your using for cavity wall insulation
Hello Fran, hope you're well. It's not no, but I do love that brand. Hopefully we'll be getting some soon.
Rockwool has a very low Uvalue
If ur gonna be reinastating the concrete up against the blockwork on the side then your absolutely correct in putting dpc that high!
We will be mate, so hopefully we're both right and it wasn't a complete waste of time!
@@mrabuilders6723 ur dpc will start 150mm up from ground level on that flank as existing ground is thst high uve done right
40:47 you passed the Cat Scan
Haha! I see what you did there!
3 wise monkeys, see no, hear no, speak no evil 😂😂😂
Thank you Adrian I’m glad someone has spotted that. 😂👍🏻
how”s the fundraising going?
Could have taken more account of the thickness of crushed string v non-crushed Adam, I am truly disappointed and astounded in eqal measures, well I say equal..... Cheers
Haha! A bit of an unnecessary overthink isn't wasn't it!
What’s with the pink bracelet 😂
Are you starting to grow a ponytail?
Being that I love my wife and wish not to get divorced, the answer is no!
Do infloor not underfloor heating.
My cat loved the start of this video, she watched the whole thing hoping to see less building and more cat
I thought you may have liked that, mate! Thank you, Reggie. All the best.
@@mrabuilders6723 To reward her for her patience, I replayed the opening scene a few times. The cat inspecting the joists wasn't enough cat action. The build looking mighty impressive, that is a sizeable extension, the client must like the location.
The only problem with your videos is how am I supposed to trust any other builder to work on my house! How do I find builders who are as thorough as you guys?
Too much talk, we need to see more work.
Sorry Bryan, but this is how we like to do our videos. All the best.
Top vid mate great team there.🧱🧱🧱
Thank you mate. Hope you're well.
fucking hate steel day. though those steel look a hell of a lot easier to put in than the ones we did last. a regular crane wouldnt work so we had to get in one of the big ass cranes
I'm hearing ya mate, although I wouldn't really class this as a steel day. As you say they weren't all that so it was more than a lintel day than anything else!
@@mrabuilders6723 true enough. last big steel day was on this massive mcmansion. 3 pieces from side to side of the building and two rows of it. 16 inch steel with a 2.5 depth on the inside. so double packing on each side and a top plate for the top mount hangers. 1st steel was 25 foot, then 25 ft then 19 ft. always stressful wtih steel that big and heavy. going over power lines is also good times...lol
@jayboo8495 holy shit balls! Them some big steels!!!
@@mrabuilders6723 yep. you should have seen the size of the crane. it had to reach well over 50 feet to place the first row. now they can do it with a remote control so they can actually see where they are going. back in the day it was all done with a series of guys calling out what to do. it could have disastrous results if you had the wrong guys in the line sending oreers to the guy working the crane. 1st floor ws also 12 ft high.....lol. as i said...mcmansion
