I'm looking to become a volunteer firefighter in michigan. What kind of advice can you give for someone new trying to get in?
My advice is to be willing to learn and think outside of the box. Be willing to take and understand constructive criticism. Attend the most training and classes available. Above all understand your limitations and trust your fellow fire fighters.
FF/EMT here. I started as a volunteer, and still do volunteer along with my paid job. Biggest thing is to be humble; there will always be someone with more experience that will disagree with everything people say. Like the gentlemen said, be humble, and be coachable! It's the best job ever and I wish you success!

How come you responded code?
Being a parent this is a nightmare. We responded code because of a 2 year old reported being missing from a yard that is surrounded by woods and swamp. This was a mutual aid call. We responded with manpower and our UTV. As we arrived on scene, some civilians found the child and his 9 month old golden retriever.
