- Luthier and Instructor, Robert O'Brien, compares a composite double top classical guitar with a traditional classical guitar. Both guitars made by Robert. Can you hear the difference? Do you have a preference?

So cool to hear a double top guitar made by you, Robbie! Are you getting around the same numbers (box, top and back frequencies) from these guitars as from your traditionally built ones? Btw, your classical guitar voicing and guitar analysis and testing courses along with Gore's books are some of the best purchases I've ever made!
I am getting different numbers than. Traditional classical guitar. My numbers are lower than what I am used to. However, the treble response is very good 9n the double tops.
I think the double top might be more harmonically rich. Has more depth. The traditional seems a little stronger in the midrange.
I like the traditional guitar much more. For my ears the double top sounds a bit harsh and crispi...a very "modern" sound. I like the warmth and woodyness of the traditional guitar, what is called the "romantic" sound like Segovia.
I usually go by the sound on a bass side, so the traditional design won.
Sir, if you just lift your fingers off the fretboard during the transitions it will stop squeeking.
Doubletop Wins!!!❤
Double top sure more expensive
There's a used Hartwood manufactured one on eBay right now for about 200 bucks...
Traditional sound better, by far
