    I'm all too familiar with the feeling of booting up a new world with big expectations; expecting my world to be the one I would play for years and look back with nostalgia for years to come, only for me to feel too overwhelmed and start the cycle again. It's very telling that I want to relive a time of simplicity and innocence, from when I played as a child; that sense of wonder and enthusiasm now fading as I get older.

    • @chrislovesstamps
      @chrislovesstamps 10 месяцев назад +18

      I feel the same about those expectations. Minecraft sometimes feels like real life. As a kid you can focus on one thing. As an adult there is so much going on and the longer you are in a Minecraft world the more there is to do and you tend to interact with others and the world less. You build farms, need to check them and then there is little to no room for playing together or exploring.

      @@MickeyMouse-lm6zj Microsoft doesn’t make any of the versions, mojang does. Microsoft has relatively limited control over what actually goes into the game, and have only been relevant to Mojang for a few years maybe. Also Notch’s code and game design was actually pretty crappy and the game is much better from basically every angle for having Mojang developing it. The reason we associate the newer versions with a worse experience is because Mojang is basically suffering from the same type of thing this video is talking about. They’re running out of ideas now, and this would have happened to Notch too.

      I played hardcore mode for the first time ever this month.
      Exploring on my own looking for a place to settle I stumbled on a overgrown zombie village for the first time. It was at the base of a valley between two snowy jagged mountain ranges with a waterfall on one side and a destroyed portal on the other.
      My new job was to restore it to working order with the last piece being the portal.
      I won't ever forget this world. There was a reason that portal exploded and zombified everyone.
      Landed in lava right on the other side 😂

      I love that idea! At some point I built a base on an island by an ocean monument with an underwater ruin nearby as well as a shipwreck for good measure.
      Instead of a base, I built a science lab and made investigations of the three underwater sites. I kept each piece of treasure as separate artifacts, and took notes on how the people must have lived. It was really awesome!
      And then I started finding underwater geodes and imagined that a mining operation was trying to take over the science lab!

    I'm almost in tears watching this. Minecraft is a game I've loved ever since I was a teenager and now I'm in my late 20s. Every time that I've tried to go back to Minecraft in the last few years, I can't hold down a solid world and end up leaving Minecraft to go play something else. I feel as if the magic has gone slightly and every world is just a robotic run of grabbing basic tools, making a small shelter and getting to the nether.
    A few of my friends started a vanilla server a few days ago and I joined in. I felt a little bit of sparkle and magic had come back. Maybe it was nostalgia above anything else, but I had fun playing the game for the first time in a long while.
    This video gave me some inspiration to go back out and enjoy Minecraft again.

    One massive tip i have is to just not even bother with Elytra. That may sound weird at first but, I've found the game to be much more fun when there is actual incentive to paving a road, laying minecart tracks, or even carving a canal for boats. I tend to create travel networks between villages or player bases.

In my hole of endless scrolling trying to grasp at whatever will keep me entertained from myself, I see a video that could open up a world to another distraction from myself, and instead of being that type of video.. its speaking to me. the day i started enjoying minecraft again was around 2 years ago now, and it was when i viewed it more as a the sandbox it is than just a game with progression and objectives. It's when I viewed the world as a canvas instead of a challenge, and by not limiting myself to the set path or advancements I freed myself to have more fun with the game. I still play in survival because I need some level of challenge and enjoy the breaks of necessity to repair tools or gather items. I also realized that having a server with friends who play the game in the same way as me really helped a ton.

This shit tells u to move on, to embrace change, to improve urself, to be patient, to act on the things u want and most importantly it shows u that everything will be good again (fun again) and that things aren’t always bad ( minecraft isn’t always boring) and u have to embrace what u have

  • @Freelix2000
    @Freelix2000 Год назад +94

    I liked this video a lot for the aesthetic and advice. I have a few thoughts on the subject of "not getting tired of it" too. I watched another video a while back that, oddly enough, had an opposite suggestion from yours. It encouraged you to keep expanding your one home and base, not starting new worlds or abandoning homes. I think the argument was that the constant need to renew it is part the reason why it keeps getting stale. And if you're going to abandon your home over and over again or start up a new world over and over again instead of growing to new heights, then eventually, even that will get old. I can see the argument there too. Minecraft doesn't have exhilarating gameplay, and while the world is fun to explore, it really isn't *that* interesting. If it was, you could have fun just flying around it in Creative. But one of the unique appeals of Minecraft that makes up for these things is the fact that it is so stateful, especially in comparison to other games. Your progress is always there, not just in your items and stats like in an RPG, but in your tunnels, your builds, your discoveries, and the other marks you leave on an infinite world. When you keep starting over, you confine that state space and impose a limit, even though it doesn't exist otherwise. The vertical ascension from dirt to netherite is the addicting part of the game, but if you keep oscillating between the two, you naturally stop having joy in the vertical distance you're traversing as you become aware of your zero displacement. It begins to feel like a pointless illusion.
    That said, I do think that starting new bases is at least a better method of appeasing the itch to start fresh than starting new worlds. At least then you leave wonderful ruins and bouts of imagination in your wake. It would probably be a good idea to integrate each area you touch into your vision of your world though and visit frequently so to not feel depressed and lonely each time you revisit an old place. And it is also a good thing to not focus too much on the conquest of the world. If you intend to conquer it, you'll only have enchanted netherite armor, a dragon egg, and a big base with a charged beacon, and you've had that before. It is difficult to redefine the notion of progress beyond the tangible achievements, but as much as a player can do that, they should try to.

    Yoo I really like this! Your main point is honestly the truth; we get complacent really often with the things we do, so we don't try to change stuff up.
    I'm really glad I saw this, cuz I've been feeling the same way. I actually made a similar video like this more focused on minecraft servers, but I didn't even think of making the points that you made in this video.
    I also really appreciate your use of cinematics in the video; that's not something I see too often in mainstream content, and I think it's cool seeing it be used outside of the replay mod editing community :)

    I loved the last point you made about mods. I used to feel the same and then I tried to play my first modpack with my friends on a server I made. It was absolutely invigorating. Now I think we've played about 40 or more modpacks together from start to finish (or at least until the point where all that's left is the damn quantum singularities lol), and I still never get tired of it. Of course sometimes you feel like you've seen the same mod a bunch of times, but it's easy to change the way it is played. The way you progress through the same mod can change so much because of the mods surrounding it, or because of custom configs. Modpacks are the "next step" of change in minecraft. Of course like you said, you can change the way you enjoy the game in vanilla easily and still enjoy it. But if you're ever in need of a true overhaul, an experience that you can simply never ever get in vanilla, try out some modpacks!

I've been getting a little stuck, lately, trying to figure out a place to build a base, and this "philosophy" really rings true.
