Give Wayne Enterprises credit for this: they don't seek to dominate Gotham the way LexCorp does Metropolis. Wayne's various divisions play well with others.
The funny thing is that Gotham and Metropolis are both nicknames that used to be used for New York City, and despite that fact most incarnations of the two cities actually have their location be across the Delaware River right at the mouth of the Delaware Bay.
Metropolis also draws inspiration from Joe Shuster's boyhood hometown of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and games like DC Universe Online honor this by making several major landmarks resemble Toronto locales while maintaining that Manhattan foundation and framework. In fact, Toronto's whole name for the city proper pre-amalgamation was known as Metropolitan Toronto while the rest was (and in some places still is) known as the Greater Toronto Area.
Gotham is my favorite comic city. More than any other city, Gotham is a character onto itself. An old city, full of endless mysteries, and horrors. Gotham is like a Lovecraftian monster. It's grandeur & madness are equally infinite.
There is a lovecraftian monster there. He hunts in the night. A man who pushes his human limits time after time, just to succumb to an overwhelming evil with no sign of victory to be had. No matter the tactic, gadget or even amount of money put into the city, it's a lost war. A war he will forever wage. Yeah I like Gotham too. Its so dreary and gothic.
I love how the ending capitalises on the more mythical aspect of Batman, with so many stories about him, not even the Templin Institute is sure if he really exists.
Crime, Joker threatening the whole city, criminals breaking out of the asylum, batman prowling at night only for the public to see the joker mysteriously defeated and in the asylum the next day. ehh, thats just a tuesday, it will occur again next week
Very interesting take on Gotham City. Surprised however that although it allured to Batman's existence, it was presented as "speculation" rather than as fact. I think Batman is owed a little more love than that but I understand that Batman's presence is entirely a whole bread basket of it's own and would overshadow the narrative on Gotham. Interesting, interesting.
That depends on what Batman story you want to take as "canon" because depending on the writer, Batman is either a shadowy figure that is a urban legend hiding in the shadow and darkness and few people have ever seen or he is a well known fact of life of Gotham and is even promoted by the city. Each writer and each movie treats Batman differently.
But they end with the same conclusion: He's real. Just one canon's Gotham promotes him more than another canon's and as an outside observer (the Institute) which sees into multiple realities, I would think it would be okay to confirm Batman's existence but again the take on this was well done. It added a little bit of roleplay immersion to the Institute of not exactly being sure itself.
Daniel Ramirez: In the beginning of even the most grandious Batman series ( Or before it), he is always a mystery until he gains enough attention. I like to think that Templin is describing a general Gotham, before the events of any Batman series, where Batman is just appearing and the city is in shatters.
James Tredinnick Possibly, but they described the events of No Man’s Land, and the Bat Family played a pretty big part of that. Then again they could say the specifics of what happened were lost in the chaos of that disaster.
In most continuities, he's considered an urban myth. Most people even believe that when they see Batman alongside the league that it's literally just a guy that is basing his persona on the Batman urban legend
Gotham is uniquely terrifying because it is so insane, but also so similar to real cities like Detroit, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. What a fantastic and well presented video....and way to give the Batman the exact treatment he deserved: mysterious, terrifying, and shadowy.

The villain escapes from Arkham, kills a number of people and stages some deadly crimes, Batman fights and defeats them and they're immeditely sent back to Arkham and then another villain escapes, kills a number of people and commits some deadly crime, fights Batman, returned to Arkham and repeats over and over again with only the villain in question changing Things in Gotham would be SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOO much simpler if they only had the death penalty but NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO, they have to be merciful and try to rehabilitate them over and over no matter how many times it fails What is the definition of insanity again?
dragonweyr44 I'm surprised the federal government doesn't step in, label all the villains terrorists, and give them all the death penalty for being mass murderers.
You can't label someone a terrorist unless they commit violence for the sake of some ideology. So, only a few of Batman's foes like Poison Ivy and Ra's al Ghul fit that label.
Kevin Gomolchak their only one reason why those villains are allowed them to live Batman. I doubt the federal government would want to face him just for those villains. So as long as Batman around those villains are going to be kept alive.
Louis Duarte Yeah you’re right there but I feel as though the police relied on Batman and are afraid to piss him off by killing villains . That or they don’t shoot because the plot demands it
