So I rewatched this show and managed to finish it this time and it was a great ride. But now it leaves me wondering what could have been. This show was a perfect opportunity for a jumping off point for a whole expansion of this take on the batman universe. Like why not make a new Batman trilogy follow up of this show or even new batman series, could even breakoff into further spinoffs, Catwoman, Penguin and Riddler, could even lead into a Teen Titans show after the introduction of Robin(but better than Titans), as well as introduce new villains that show up because of Batman. Definitely feels like a gold mine of missed opportunities.
I binge watched this show and finished it literally the last day it was on Netflix.... It was so good Penguin and Ridley always cracked me up I just loved their duo.
Lmfao this is some toxic mindset bullshit. Most of the people "hating" are people who watched the entire series. This series was great. I liked that they gave an origin story to batman and showed how he became who he is. It gave me Smallville vibes. Like showing how Superman became who he is
It DIDN'T. They introduced Azrael wayyy too early.. They never explained who and how he learned to become Batman. That part with the guy from the Court of Owls didn't make sense. * They left a lot of holes in THAT arc. Smallville STILL remains the best origin series for a superhero.... Bar none ! Arrow ? Got weak after they had Oliver suddenly become so good in martial arts that HE kills Ras Al Ghul ? Spare me
That’s because they wrote this show around the same time as Smallville. It took years for them to get the rights issues sorted out (apparently Batman can’t appear on tv, but they convinced the legal team that Bruce Wayne counts as a separate character). Oliver Queen was originally supposed to be Bruce on Smallville and that would lead into Gotham but instead we got the Arrow show
Gotta say. This show has given us fantastic spins on the villains. Cameron Monaghan's take on the Clown Prince of Crime was a highlight. Penguin's transformation from an ambitious thug rising up the underworld ranks, Riddler's genius making it hell for Gotham. Really enjoyed this take on the familiar set of characters from my childhood.
I really liked the voice that Bruce used for Batman it was distorted but it also felt very natural which is something I think a lot of people need in terms of Batman’s voice
Gordon: Who is That? Alfred: *Honestly I don’t know* .. I didn’t know he was gonna dress like that - shit - This is so embarrassing.. Sorry to Waste your time gentlemen
The funny thing is, they never showed Bruce in this episode, because they kept the same actor, and it was a 10 year time jump. So we just have to assume that Bruce Wayne is all grown up, and doesn't want to be in the public, but then when we see his face you lose that feeling.
Yeah I guess but the amazing spiderman suit was also suppost to repersent a costume a 17 year old with no experience would make, and that suit looked badass. Shit's scarier then this one.
The whole point is that Bruce is a billionaire, and there's no way that the level 1 bat suit is going to look like that if he has such so much wealth and resources. The one in this clip looks like you can buy it online from Amazon.
Riddler and Penguin still 2 of my favourite characters in any TV show. Spectacular casting, and such a brilliant balance of comedy and darkness. Spot on. Miss this show so much, just started watching again from the beginning!
Are all of you teenagers or something? I remember being young thinking the shit things were so creative and cool. This series is among the worst as far as casting. Riddler and Penguin were angry skinny teenagers. There was no substance to them at all.
@@dbsti3006 bro the cast was actually very good idk at what point u think they were skinny teenagers The riddler in fact was shown actually confused with his riddler persona
@@parvsharma7387 Riddler was a skinny whiny teenager in the show. Penguin was a skinny whiny teenager in the show. Penguin is supposed to be a fat piece of garbage politician and restaurant owner where the scum frequented. That's why Batman in the comics would always corner him at club closing and hang cobbepot upside down on billboards for answers. Riddler not so much because Batman had to actually do homework to get to Riddler. There was depth to these characters and Bruce Wayne investigating those villains. The show focused way too much on character development of villains while doing nothing to progress Batman himself until they realized the show was being canceled, so they rushed everything. It never had an identity. Wotj a rogues gallery like Batman has, there's no reason any show should fail.
@@dbsti3006 well I understand if your not fond of the way the they were depicted in this series, however, you have to remember the ENTIRE series is BEFORE an actual Batman. I don’t know why you would expect a top tier/ full fledge version of any of the villains considering only a full grown Batman (lol) could handle them sufficiently. I loved this show when it first aired on Fox, I think I’ll rewatch tbh, I personally love the cast of the series.
@@Thetreng No, that definitely Batman. Superman is not gonna have anything to do with something like crusader. Except Injustice Superman perhaps, but that's an alternate reality.
Gotham is amazing, such a underrated show, Bruno Heller did a amazing job with the show, the story, action, cast, music all top notch, it included so many characters from Batman lore that had never been seen in live action, Ben McKenzie nailed the role of young James Gordon, David Mazouz was the perfect choice for young Bruce, the cast as a whole was perfect, each episode was shot beautifully, you really got to connect with the characters in a way a two hour movie can never achieve, one of my all time favorite DC Comics tv shows, the closing credits theme makes me feel so nostalgic ❤
I agree.. If they made it two hours they could've fleshed out the Jeremiah story and actually explore the new actors' characters (Barbara Lee & Selina) following the time jump.
@@efesos97 If you feel like this is a prequel to the '60s Batman show, then you clearly don't know that show. Gotham is tone-wise like the Burton movies, and style-wise and visual-wise more comic book accurate than ANY other live action Batman. Well, with the exception to the batsuit. Both Adam West and Ben Affleck are more comic accurate there for obvious reasons.
Penguin:Gotham is mine, that's what he said. Riddler:I was there Oswald Penguin:I did not spend 10 years in black gate to give my city to a MAN DRESSED LIKE A BAT!!! Great lines
Seeing the whole show I'm gonna be honest, I don't think the suit looks great too, but the whole point of the series wasn't to show Batman. This series creates all the mythology behind Gotham, serving almost like a prologue of Bruce's journey as a hero. There were a lot of great episodes and it's probably one of this Arrowverse series that every season was an improvement from the previous one. It's goofy like a comic book and gothic like the city needed to be and it doesn't mean that is bad. So, of course the series had to end showing Batman, the epilogue ends and the Batman's arc begins. I'm had so much fun watching and I'm glad they showed Batman, even if we get to see only for a few seconds
Can I recommend the graphic novel Gotham Central? This show was based on it and is a pretty gritty look into how cops cope with being in the way of super heroes and villains whilst trying to do their job.
All you talk about is how this is all a set up for Bruce but you do realize that the original pitch for the show was meant to focus on Gordon and his earlier days? They really swerved from that and it’s kinda annoying which is why I stopped after like season 3.
@@nisalo its obvious because Bruce left Gotham anonymously and came back around the same time that Alfred contacted a man in a batsuit. So it doesnt take long for Jim to figure it out that its Bruce. And because Bruce isn't down there with them looking at a man in a batsuit
It's pretty easy to find out that it's Bruce as stated in _The Batman_ (2004) show. Take away the women of Gotham Take away the men who are shorter/higher than Batman Take away the people who aren't rich enough to have all the Bat-Tech Take away the people who don't have a motivation/a good origin After all this there only remains Bruce Wayne. Male, hight of the Bat, rich as fuck, family tragedy origin.
All the people complaining weren’t probably true fans of the show when it was being aired we all thought the best we would get back then was Bruce picking up the Batman mask and that would be the end not a full on suit and whole episode of him sneaking around
@Alex Jones If that was the case they shouldn't have shown him at all in the suit if their budget was so low. But they probably thought their suit looked good or they promised David Mazouz that he would get to wear it.
@Alex Jones Gordon is basically the Batman of this show since he's taking down all the mob bosses and super villains himself, so there's no point to Bruce Wayne becoming Batman.
@@devinfahada4880 It was supposed to be a TEN YEAR time jump. There's no doubt in my mind they wanted Selina to look a little aged, so that's probably why
He looks like Injustice Batman, its also awesome to see Alfreds reaction at the end. He knows its Bruce, but is still in awe of watching him perched on a roof like that.
Gordon’s reaction, and him simply saying, “a friend”, seems to indicate that he also knows that it’s Bruce Wayne under the cowl. I always figured that both he and Selina would know right from the beginning.
Can you give me a quick summary as to what happens in this? I watched like the first season but fell out of it. Bruce was like 14 and Alfred was starting to give him boxing lessons etc. - so did they show serious training and stuff? The girl/cat woman looks to be about the same age - so Bruce can’t be more than 18ish I’d think.
@@michaelwesten1764 Well, without getting really into the weeds. I'll just say Bruce Wayne made it to 18 on the show, he left Gotham, and came back 10 years later.
@@dbsti3006 bro the cast was actually very good idk at what point u think they were skinny teenagers
The riddler in fact was shown actually confused with his riddler persona
