DCR , thanks for the great video on the Cougar!! I love the 351 Ford engine with the big heads and I enjoyed a 70 Torino GT many years ago with the cleveland motor. Cannot believe (other then both hoods) how solid the body is on that car. Thanks again and keep em coming!!
Years ago I knew of a 71 left in the mountains. Imyself had a 1964 International Scout and I needed a break line. A 71 Cougar and a 1964 International Scout have the same size break lines!
You know I see pictures of old cars sitting in the desert from the 1930’s and see just a partial car. I’ve always wondered where and who took just certain parts and leave the cool grills or body parts since they were already there. Well it’s people like you that just happened to have needed that one part. Then someone else takes another part and so on. That is a cool story of how it happens I guess.
The bronco, Ltd, mustang and the cougar all fired off after sitting for years. I was impressed also. Gas, spark and compression and they continue to run.
I have a 72 XR 7 that come with the 351 CJ. with a C6 trans. I pulled the motor and built it to the hilt. Probe 426 stroker kit, roller cam, rockers, ported, polished heads, torquer 2 intake, Mallory electronic distributor. The trans was replaced with a TCI street/strip C6 with 2800 stall converter. My Cougar is gold with ginger interior. That is what color your interior is. All 71 to 73 Cougars come with 9-inch rear ends as far as I've been able to find.
Just discovered your videos the other day. Enjoy seeing someone who can listen and determine what is needed, carb rebuild, adjustment, etc. Watched the '64 Fairlane, listen, adjust the points, remove the misfire. Awesome. Had a black '71 Cougar XR7 in High School, 351 2 barrel, tan leather interior. Watching you power brake it to smoke the tires brought back real memories! Loved the smile, I had it too!
Hey thanks for your nice comments. If you see anything about my videos you don’t like please let me know. I’m struggling with low viewers right now. Was about to shut my channel down today because the low numbers were depressing. Thanks for watching sir.
I had a 71 XR7 back in the late. 80s. It was rusted around the rear quarters trunk, and some in the floors. It was green with green leather interior. 351C 2V/FMX. Power steering but non newer assisted drum brakes all the way around.

I agree. Once I got it running and the video done I put it on marketplace and it sold two days later which was yesterday. A middle age dad bought it for his young son and they were going to semi restore it. That kid was smiling when they drove away with it. :)
I wanted to come up with something different than WILL IT RUN. I’ve seen so many and heard that’s what draws attention but after doing that I find more views doing it my way. Thanks for watching my videos.
1:25 "It was like a Baby.....I mean.....Um.....Well you know what I mean...a.......Mustard, Mustard Yellow." LOL. THAT was funny!! We KNOW you weren't going to say anything that might have had to do with diapers at all! LOL. Funny!
When I was in high school (1974-1978), there were two 1971 Mercury Cougar convertibles in the county -- both were the Jonquil Yellow that it appears that your Cougar was originally painted -- one had what could best be called a peanut butter color interior very similar to what is now in your car, but the other one, which was particularly striking and memorable, had a Spring Green interior that made a very memorable counterpoint to the Jonquil Yellow. I probably would have considered that Jonquil Yellow and Spring Green Cougar Convertible when it came up on the local used car marked had I been interested in Ford products, but I was very happy with my 1965 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible in midnight blue with white interior that I owned from 1974 through 2014 and would still own today had I not had to sell to pay bills after an extended illness.
19:35mark, I saw the cords of your hoodie come within inches of the fan belt. I don not want to detract from the brilliant restoration, but thought the former deserve a mention so that I will be able to see more videos.
lol The wife and I noticed that too as we proofed the video before we posted it. I could have been hurt if it had gotten between that belt and pulley. I cut those off everything I wear that has them. Thanks for your comment though. You weren’t the first to mention it though. :)
I’m glad you’re subscribed and watching. I just basically get them running on video and sell them after that. This cougar just sold to a father and young son yesterday. Now I’m off to find more to rescue.
Love those Cougars pretty much the same as the Mustang just a little nicer. I would think some of the parts would be interchangeable since they would probably be a lot easier to find.
Nice find, I think that the original colour is called Daytona yellow, i really enjoyed the video and I'm subbing to the channel, watching your video in Wales UK 🏴.
Cool video. I have a 71 convertible xr7. If you decide to part out, let me know. There's several body and interior parts i could use on mine. I'm only a couple hours away from you.
The brown color on the interior looks correct. The seats are out of something else, probably a later base model Cougar, or a Mustang. XR7 came with a leather interior - in the front anyway. Rear seat was matching vinyl. That green stuff looks like someone spayed it with something. No Cougar had that loud 70s cloth pattern in it in 71. EDIT I stand corrected on the loud cloth. The brochure tells of it but does not show it, but it's listed under the base model. In the 73 brochure, it states availability on the XR7 as well. You'd have to look up the codes on the body tag for a difinitive conclusion.
I think it was original interior. It went with that outside yellow color that it came out with. As soon as I finished the video a father n son bought it to restore for the kid. I really did save this one before it had too much damage. ;)
@@DEADCARRESCUE I think you are right, that the seats ARE original. I got curious and did some digging. Part of the XR7 package was a partial leather interior. Apparently this cloth interior type was a leather delete option for credit on the XR7 for 71 - 73. The 73 brochure was clear on that, but the 71 was not. A straight read of the txt in the 71 brochure implies that the option was for the base model only. It's good that the car got saved. I think the door panels and dash pad will be the toughest parts for them to get done. Just Dashes does that stuff, but they are pricey, and have a long backlog. Good work on your part, in saving that car.
Thanks for not naming it "will it run" I've gotten to the point I don't even watch when they say that. Love your videos and want you to stick around so please tuck your hoodie strings in or cut them of so you don't get them pulled into the pulleys.
Oh lord I watched that video with my wife and she said the same thing lol. If that thing would have gotten under that compressor belt I would probably be dead today. No I find them, get them running and sell them. Then I go buy another and start all over. I made a good profit and wasn’t even trying to sell it yet. A local saw my video and had to have it.
