Also, just a couple more questions. When I put the number in the 'Employer Contact No' on Page II, it didn't show up on the 'Verify Information Page' for some reason. I've tried multiple times, logging in, etc., but it still doesn't work. It happend with all 4 family member forms. any idea what to do?

Also their names are misspelled as spouse(last page) in both of their passport however their names are correct in their respective passport (main page). Marriage registration date means Marriage date or Marriage registered date at registration office? This what my certificate mentions Mr. X & Mrs Y has Appeared before me on the to register their marriage performed on and their marriage has been registered on . So what date should I mention in the application?

Not required for India photo the way Canada asks for. You can print digital copy if in the required format
while filling oci check list for minor In details to be filled by applicant ( where it asks name and file no)under signature of applicant can parents sign or baby thumb needed

After you upload the form and generate the pdf on the form I can see that there is a gap/white space on right side of the photo on the form. Is that ok? As I have applied for OCI and I was told there is a there is a gap/white space on right side of the photo on the form.
Visited BLS in person, you will need demand draft of 345 and rest mail charge and bls fee you can pay through debit card (with debit fees).
They will return passport after verification, not like mail where they hold until process end.
No original passport is sent in mail. Only photocopy

Anybody recently applied OCI online? For past 1 month, when fill in page 1 with details until Spouse details and click save and continue to next page 2, I am getting error as "The Specified URL is inaccessible at this time. Please try after some time."

Hi just front part is enough as it captures all details including address and expiry date however if you can get both side just to avoid any confrontation with the agency

The OCI form asks for relatives in India. It has a name with a star asking for a relationship. But there is no separate box for Relationship anymore.
In the Current Passport, I wish they had written as "Current Foreign Passport".
For the National Identification Document, they must specify "Citizenship Certificate
number". I mentioned my Aadhar card! Now, I have to redo the application for the third time!!
I hope the Ministry of External Affairs of India under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Jaishankar will take corrective steps.

I am getting message as format or file name is not valid when I upload images (photo is in jpj and signature is in jpej). I can see applicant photo or signature is as per the instruction but when click upload I get that error message

I submitted my application for the OCI on 14/12/23 but status shows it is under process. My friend from Edmonton got OCI recently after 2.5 months. Will you please throw some light when I get it?
OCI process usually takes 4-6 weeks. In your case since it is beyond that time you can raise your concern with CGI on their website. Sampark page has a section where you can raise your question

Had one question at the final stage of completing the form and submitted, it downloads the pdf file of the form, if that page after cross checking if you find a mistake like "date birth year wrongly entered". What is the option? Do i need to do whole application again and resubmit?
Yes that is correct. Make sure you send the correct pdf. Also always double check with agency like BLS. That way you avoid any surprises.
Hello. I had a question. If you are doing Walk In....do we need to pay with Demand draft or can we pay with Cash/Debit Card?
For walkin- CGI you need Demand Draft. For BLS they do accept credit/debit payment

Yes for CGI fee. You can check with BLS over call if this has changed now
I mailed my application on March 28th but the status on the website says the application is being returned coz the fee has all of a sudden changed from April 1st. Please advise on my next step.

Hi sorry for late reply. If it is problem with upload. Instead of starting all over again. Note the temp ARN number/ if already submitted ARN number and then on the OCI page you will find reupload photo and separate reupload document section. You can replace the one which you want. It will save time. If this does not work you can fill new application

Hi You will only be able to go to upload once you have confirmed par A. Can you use ARN and see if you are able to see this part. If not complete everything and then check for correctness before sending. If not confident you can start new application

As per latest requirements for application form, all the seven pages needs to be downloaded and sent or just four should be fine? Also, do we have to sign anywhere in the checklist or anything we have to mark?
By logic only 4 pages are required. Agencies are making money by asking you to take printout for $5 each so better take all 7 pages. Checklist you can make and self sign

I'd recommend to NOT alter / abbreviate names, be it places or person (things like B.C. is fine), in the application. A single mismatch between what is in the application and what is in the original doc can reject your application.

She got Indian Citizenship and Indian Passport after 2 months. Later When I received German Citizenship in Jan 2024, she also got German citizenship alongside me. No photo to be passed on printout. Just secure 1 x photo with all document you send. Let me know if you have not understood something. Also please call VFS once to double check the documents to send to make life easy.

The step by step pdf document listed on the checklist from BLS website mentions that Previous passport number should be as per Indian Passport or Birth certificate. However, video asks to put previous Canadian passport number.

Hello, what is the minimum age to apply for OCI for new born baby in Canada? Due date given as april 18th for the baby, we want to go back to India. So how many days we have to wait to apply for OCI after the baby born? Or else we can apply OCI on the very same day we get Canadian passport for the baby?
Hi you can apply for OCI immediately on getting the passport. The only challenge with newborn is getting photo. Just speak to professional photo if they can take photo of child in lying position. I could not find photographer who could do this so had to wait for baby’s head to stabilize for photo in sitting position. If you can manage to get the photo all is good

Hi after uploading the photo there is a white gap on the right hand side of the photo on the application form. I was advised this from the VFS centre There is a gap/white space on right side of the photo. Kindly try uploading another photograph as per specifications.

Hi recently someone commented to use name as per Canadian passport. I suggest call BLS , note down time and agent name when you speak and then forward application to avoid delay or rejection. Also can you please keep me informed

What to do with the middle name. In oci application its not separate column for middle. Where to write my middle name..
Hi by logic I would write full name within first and last name and use paper to explain that in absence of middle name column I used this format. A call to BLS will be handy for sure.

Hi can you look into husband's oci card and find file reference number(It is mentioned on OCI card) With that call the service agency and they should be able to pull this detail. If not they will guide you on what to do.

Correct me if i am wrong, i don't think marriage certificate is required for person whose previous citizenship was Indian. This is based on the text that is presented when "marriage certificate" is selected for uploading the document:
"Uploading of marriage certificate is applicable only for spouse based OCI applicants."

My Canadian passport only has a surname and the given name section is blank. previously they'd put XXX in the given name section but now since they changed the passport, the Given Name is Blank. What do I do? Please help

I applied on Nov 30 by looking at ur other video and it says processing at consulate general since then when i track it on bls website. its been 8 weeks now with no update. Do u have any idea how i can get to know something about my application. Noone answer the call there too. i need to go to India and i am waiting with no idea how long

Hi not sure if things have changed now. Earlier you still had to take demand draft for $345 for CGI. Can you please call BLS once

What to mention in relation with root Indian if born in Canada and parents were from India and they hold Indian passports
Here in this case choose “parents”. I am assuming that the child has not taken Indian citizenship after birth in Canada. Don’t worry if parents are not in India and just hold passport now with Canada TR or PR

I was born in Canada and then went back to India and stayed there for 18 years on a study permit, but I did not apply for OCI as my high school was completed and I have to return to Canada. To apply for OCI, I needed 3 months of valid visa, but I was left with 2 months, so I was told you can apply from Canada. I checked Parents are not in options. The options are father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, great-grandfather, great-grandmother and self. @kuwarVijaypartap-ib4ic if father had/has India passport choose father. You will be good. Call BLS to find documents needed, they might ask both parents passport photocopies
Hi, quick question: I'm applying for OCI as US citizen. The latest checklist asks for 'Affidavit in lieu of Originals'. Do you know if everyone needs to submit this or only in cases where they asked for original and it was not provided? In my case, all documents they asked for are copies, so do I still have to provide this affidavit? Thanks in advance for your response.
Hi best would be to call VFS as they would know the latest and also the documents receiving agency in US. When it comes to documents it has to be consistent across globe however agencies might have their own requirements during the process. Can you keep me updated on this please

@bgayatri11 yes VFS helpline would respond. Usually they have long wait time but you will get through. Don’t worry about your evisa process, you can apply for OCI no restrictions as such

Once submitted and you have the pdf you can send it even now. No issues. Just make sure you arrange fee as per latest requirements

Have a query regarding marriage certificate. Is a registered marriage certificate a mandatory requirement to apply for OCI? My wife and I got married at a church in Mumbai in 1983, but did not get our marriage registered with the marriage registrar as it was not a requirement at that time.
Though our names are listed under the "Name of Spouse" field in each of our Indian passports.

Hi sir. The mandatory registration ruling by SC came in 2006 and not every one before that had marriage registration so write reason on a piece of paper that no marriage certificate issued then and both spouse name mentioned in passport. This will hold good.
Let me know if you face any issues especially from BLS on this( which I am hopeful will not happen)

The instructions say a photograph should have a light color background (not white). The ones which you showed is white. Is this okay
Just go to any photo studio which knows India OCI requirement you should be good.

Hi sir, i have acquired Canada citizenship by naturalization. On my Indian passport, my spouse middle name is mentioned. However on my spouse passport it has first and last name only. Do i need to make a affidavit for middle name variation.
I can't say whether affidavit is required or not. But they'll use applicant's passport to verify details in the application. So if i can't get an affidavit for whatever reason, then i'd just use the name with the middle-name mentioned in it.
