Very good video and highly informative. On the document upload section would hurt if we upload as many documents as we have to avoid any issues as there is no clear guideline mentioning how many documents are mandatorily required. The only correction/update is regarding DD for BLS as there is an option to pay directly to the BLS via debit card/cash which is mentioned in the website.

When I apply for OCI, relatives details from india, just information about father and mother are ok? Or information about siblings should be added? Also need details about their families like their children and spouse? I don’t want to make any complications in the paperwork or in the future. Also “ National identification number” is citizenship certificate number or SIN number? And finally emergency contact is spouse information is ok or any close relatives? Please give a reply when you have time. Thank you.

Hi yes for both consulate and BLS it is separate demand draft. When you do walk in BLS accepts directly through card for BLS services only. Better to confirm with them once again as their rules and procedures changes frequently

They accept card for BLS fee only. CGI has to be by Draft. Also call BLS once to get documents verified before you go. Will save hassles

1. For entering spouse passport details at the beginning - I am assuming we should we enter their current canadian passport details (if they are a Canadian citizen), and not their recently surrended Indian passport details? Just wanted to clarify as it was not mentioned in the video.
2. When asked for copy of passport - does it mean only the front( bio info) and back pages of the passport, or the full booklet?
3. If we do not have a marriage certificate attested by High Commision of India, will it be accepted as a valid document? We have a registered marriage certificate from New York, US.

You can choose others and then write on piece of paper you are self employed and currently working on projects with company with address. That should be fine

Hi Can you call BLS once. If you find everything matching with what I have shown there might have been changes at BLS end. Also if there these things are not mentioned clearly by BLS ask them where it is?

Just secure it in a way that it does not get misplaced. I used uclip to secure. All the photocopies to be self attested

Did you note the temporary ARN if not unfortunately you will have to start again. Check if you got any email update

HI..do we need to pay for courier fee or pick it up from the BLS office. they charge very insane for courier...for family of 4 it would be around 240$

Hello, thank you so much for this video! I wanted to clarify something; while reviewing the document list you had mentioned the COPR and seal on passport as proof for Indian visa. But during the document upload, you mentioned that current passport, employment letter and Indian origin proof are only required (for single people). Therefore, I wanted to double check when is the COPR proof needed? Thank you!
Hi for single you need not upload CoPR, this is required when parents are on PR and child is born Canadian. Can you point the timestamp where this is mentioned please?

Hello, you mentioned uploading the ecopr in the Indian visa section initially in the video, but later half you mentioned only 4 documents that are to be uploaded which don't include the India visa upload.

Hi BLS has made changes recently. You now need separate drafts and courier services. Please call BLS once to avoid any surprises
Based on where you are in Canada, ex: postal code starting K, you are required to send in ORIGINALS . No exceptions.

I have one question related to uploading the documents.
Initially, I just uploaded my Indian Passport without Cancellation stamp. Now i re-uploaded with Cancelled indian passport. Do i have to fill entire form again or is it acceptable as i haven't sent my documents to BLS & indian commissions haven't started working on file. Please advise.
You get chances to reupload the documents. If you see that the current uploaded documents show the document you want to share it is good. If not you can do a fresh application.

Hi just state the fact. Your OCI won’t get rejected for this reason. Hiding might cause issues

Hi booking online appointment is a challenge. For walk-in you may want to to check on social media if someone had recent experience.
Go walk-in only if you have patience to wait for minimum 2-4 hours in the line up outside. On weekends, even more. Otherwise, keep checking for appointments online, and book when when you see one.

If in Canada you can apply right away. For those who think of applying while in India they have a wait period

No issues. If there is a dropdown for unemployed or not working you can mention that and if not choose “others” and you can mention never worked. LMK if you are stuck

@@canadatriedandtestedoriginal okay, will do. Meanwhile, one last question, when we attach spouse OCI card or Passport print out - who has to self-attest? Me or spouse? Or both? It will be great if you can make a video of the physical form submission too as there are many more things beyond the online documents. For ex. we have to attach consent letter, notarized affidavit of documents, undertaking by OCI applicant, fee receipt etc. It will be helpful to have step by step guidance for that too :)
I surrendered my Indian passport for cancellation waiting for SC, my wife is still an Indian Citizen just got her PR last year. I have noticed that on the OCI checklist it has 4 types, Type A is Fresh OCI, Type D is OCI on indian origin spouse. I am confused between these two options.
1. In my case as I was born in India regardless of my spouse I can apply for Fresh OCI(Indian origin is established as the applicant is Indian Passport holder(self) right? And not by my spouse correct? So Type A in my case right?
2. Also, do I have to wait 2 yrs after marriage to apply / it’s only for those who apply under Type D.. which is on indian origin spouse basis.
3. Do I need marriage certificate? If so I have it from local Sub Registrars Office in India, will this be accepted?
4. I am unemployed and no work, how should I fill those professional details?

Hi Yash, in your case you don’t have to wait for 2 years for OCI. You choose self for roots to India. You will submit marriage certificate as documents since you are married and sub registerer is one is good. LMK incase you have any further doubt

Current is foreign passport and before this was also expired foreign passport.
So still enter Indian passport number or previous expired foreign passport ? Thanks

Hi can you check video properly I have shown how to edit. I know that photo and document upload is allowed. If you are not able to find way to edit. Just fill a new form. Make sure you send the correct one to process

Hi Adnan, since you are 18 year old you come in Adult category and will select unmarried as option. If you have recently relinquished Indian citizenship (I guess that is the case) you will choose roots to India as “self”. No need to give parents marriage certificates, this requirement is for minor. Hi by logic you fill as per Canadian passport however please call BLS as they are the first receiver. Make sure you note name of the person, date and time of call. Also can you please update me on this?

@@VishalSingh-mu2em making changes to Canadain passport will be easier than explaining during OCI. I would suggest connect with service canada and BLS once to understand what will work better and will be less stress to you

Hi , I have a question which might be helpful for many applicants, but before that, a huge thank you for making this video, it is super helpful! Question: In my Indian Passport I DO NOT have any surname (it is blank) and only have a Given Name. However, when i moved to Canada and got my citizenship recently, my documents (COPR and Canadian passport) ONLY have Surname and NO given name. However, in the OCI form, given name is mandatory. Hence, what should I put in given name ? I assume surname would be as per my Canadian passport. Would you know the answer to help clarify or would you recommend to call BLS ?
Hi the best practice is to write XXXXX as it is mandatory field and provide an explanation letter along with the other documents you send. This is my logic however please call BLS once to get the update and be sure. Can you let me know their response please

Guys, when you apply for OCI, in the “previous passport number “ section, please don’t put surrender Indian passport number. I know in this video mentioned like that. Today I went bls and my application got rejected because of that . They were saying whether you guys have previous Canadian passport, then mentioned it or suppose to leave it blank. Hi Gopi, They returned my OCI application the reason being on my Canadian passport under birth place it contains State name, and IND for eg: (PUNJAB , IND) . BLS said that I must renew my canadian passport and Ask them to add the full spelling of INDIA instead of IND under Birth place 😮. Has anyone faced this ?

@navghuman410 Hi I checked my passport. It mentions place of birth in full for eg Agra and then IND for India. I got my OCI issued. You must write directly to CGI your concern and keep BLS in copy
The birth place is not state but place of birth
In this video you tell that in the Previous passport details we need to enter recently surrendered India Passport no. whereas in others you tell this should be left blank. Please clarify about this field.

Not sure. Even if it is written how does it matter as long as you have valid OCI to travel

@@arunkumarr9784 you can mention self employed and in hand written note mention working as consultant (mention the field) that is sufficient. For the office address you can mention your address.
Hi the section will be and you can write on a piece of paper that you are consultant currently not having any work. The card will then mention in professional detail

Question for surrender certificate? I have my canceled passports and it me and Canada passports. Do I need surrender my cancelled Indian passports to get a surrender certificate or did I get one when they cancelled my passport? I can’t remember 😅

Sorry I meant the surrender certificate is that a separate document? I don’t think I have got it when I got my passport cancelled. It’s been over 15 years.
Hi no worries. Can you write to consulate on their email address that in your case you did not get surrender certificate then. Also use Madad portal. Once you get response which you definitely will. With that copy apply for OCI. Hope this helps
What if somebody do not want to mention that they’re married.
I like the question. Someone will have to try doing it to know what happens. Why should you be doing it anyway?
